To think Young Sheldon is better than The Big Bang Theory?

Obvs a thread for those whove seen both.

I loved TBBT since it started, it's in my regular rotation of "background tv", and I think it's done a world of good for those whose interest lie outside of the "norm".

Just finished the first 3 seasons of Young Sheldon, mainly as something to watch on the dark winter nights, and I absolutely love it.

Its warm, got that comforting early 90s glow, funny. I love the little comments from Adult Sheldon that give hints as to how his and Amy's life has carried on from the end of TBBT.

So as a hardened TBBT fan, I'm saying it now. YS is better.

I love them both so I can’t vote!

GrandTheftWalrus · 24/12/2021 21:52

I agree. I'm enjoying young sheldon more than tbbt.

PinkWaferBiscuit · 24/12/2021 21:54

100% agree and I'm someone who never likes prequels or spin off shows as much as the originals. However the ending of season 2 gives me the feels everytime I watch it, it's just so perfectly put together and heartwarming.

Seashor · 24/12/2021 21:54

Oh me too. I really liked the Big Bang Theory but Young Sheldon is absolutely brilliant. I binged watched them all.

Kite22 · 24/12/2021 21:57

No.

I do love Young Sheldon. It is SO well written, and cast. Really clever, but not "better than" Big Bang Theory.

notagainnotagain · 24/12/2021 22:02

Young Sheldon is fabulous, can't stand the canned laughter in TBBT

mumda · 24/12/2021 22:06

I suspect young Sheldon is rubbish if you've not seen the big Sheldon.

Just watched the Stephen Hawking talk episode . Seeing the canteen was such a nice moment. But absolutely without meaning if you've not seen big Sheldon.

BerriesAndPineCones · 24/12/2021 22:07

I agree.

Rtmhwales · 24/12/2021 22:07

Nope nope nope. That is all.

GreenLunchBox · 24/12/2021 22:09

Sheldon and his sister are such good little actors in YS.
YS is defo better than TBBT

GreenLunchBox · 24/12/2021 22:10

Sheldon and Amy are so different by the end of TBBT that it had become unfunny. My DS loves TBBT but even he admitted to me he can't remember the last time he laughed out loud at an episode

Sidge · 24/12/2021 22:10

Not better but just as good.

I absolutely love YS.

FallonCarringtonWannabe · 24/12/2021 22:11

Young sheldon is very good. It makes you see adult sheldon in a completely different way. All the cast are brilliant. Young missy is my favourite character after sheldon.

ohtsmeagain · 24/12/2021 22:11

LOVE LOVE LOVE young sheldon. So funny. His twin sister has some fantastically cutting lines and so does mee-maw.

Cannot stand the fake canned laughter in The Big Bang Theory. Tried several times but couldn't get more than a few minutes in.

For anyone wondering you can 100% watch Young Sheldon without having seen the Big Bang Theory.

I also like that it's family friendly and you wouldn't be embarrassed watching it with youngsters or parents in law!

Yeah I can't quite pinpoint what series it was that it started to become really unfunny, but feels like it definitely dragged on longer than it should and ruined a lot of the characters.

Not true, I binge watched Young Sheldon with DS and am now watching The Big Bang Theory. I loved Young Sheldon so much, the young actors are incredible.
SirensofTitan · 24/12/2021 22:17

I like them both, young Sheldon is such a good actor. I do wonder how they will deal with the discrepancies between the two if YS continues

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 24/12/2021 22:17

I think it's common in US shows to keep churning out episodes as they make money, even when he writwrs gave expenses the credible storylines.

It's what turned Modern family into a parody, and many others.

The same (imo) for TBBT. It just got to point where they did everything genuine and had nothing real left.

I hope that doesnt happed in YS.

Does there need to be any discrepancies?

I like Young Sheldon better. The relationship between Sheldon and Missy is brilliant even though they are total opposites. It makes his relationship/friendship with Penny in TBBT make so much sense because they are such different people - I think Penny reminds him (possibly subconsciously) of his sister.

JenniferWooley · 24/12/2021 22:19

I love young Sheldon!

My fave was the episode where he thought he'd be alone forever & at the end it showed you them all as kids. I actually cried & I didn't even cry when Marley died If you've not seen TBBT then I don't think you'd really get the full emotional impact of that scene.

Legoisthebest · 24/12/2021 22:25

I like to think that one (or more) of Missy's children - she had 4 according to Sheldon - is a genius like Sheldon and any children that him and Amy have are completely not interested in scientific stuff but all about art or sports !!

AnneShirleysNewDress · 24/12/2021 22:26

I love both but often get teary at YS. You need to have seen TBBT to appreciate ie.

Rshard · 24/12/2021 22:27

Agree totally. One of the best things for me is that the actress who plays Sheldon’s mum in YS is the daughter of Laurie Metcalf who plays his mum in TBBT!

FoxIvy · 24/12/2021 22:30

Regarding the canned laughter on TBBT, it was filmed in front of a live audience. Is that what people mean when they refer to canned laughter now?
