Is this OK for 45 minutes? Parking

Itsaparkingone · 23/12/2021 14:47

See diagram - is it OK for car two to park half on the drive, across the pavement and sticking into the road, for 45 minutes/ an hour? The dropped kerb was put in place to enable access to the drive, so not sure what the rules are about keeping it free.

No. What if someone wanted to get pass. They would have to go on road.. Not easy in a wheelchair or with a buggy.

TeaStory · 23/12/2021 14:49

No

Helpstopthepain · 23/12/2021 14:49

You obviously know who’s drive it is so just ask

BoredatHome321 · 23/12/2021 14:49

The car shouldn't be parked across the pavement, no.

Helpstopthepain · 23/12/2021 14:49

Ahh, on the pavement then no!

Svara · 23/12/2021 14:50

No, you can't block the pavement

RatherBeRiding · 23/12/2021 14:50

Well no - you're completely blocking the pavement and forcing pedestrians out into the road. Pushchairs, dog walkers, parents with small children.

Pretty sure its illegal.

Ijustreallywantacat · 23/12/2021 14:50

I think it might be okay as long as its not sticking out past the parked cars? Don't know though. I'm assuming the drive belongs to the owner of the car

Fridafever · 23/12/2021 14:51

Of course not! It doesn’t matter whether you ask the person who’s drive it is, you can’t block the pavement.

Ijustreallywantacat · 23/12/2021 14:51

...ignore me. Seems not ok

ThreeFeetTall · 23/12/2021 14:51

What is someone in a wheelchair wanted to go along the pavement?

xyzandabc · 23/12/2021 14:51

Can't see a diagram but from the picture I imagine from your description, sounds like you would be totally blocking the pavement. Forcing wheelchair users, pushchairs, any pedestrians in to the road. That is not on at all.

If you live at the end of a cul-de-sac where no one ever walks then it'll probably be fine. If you're on a high street with lots of foot traffic then definitely not.

If you don't have any traffic wardens around and no double yellow lines or other parking restrictions, then I'd park it at the side of the road, so blocking your access to your drive but keeping the pavement free for pedestrians.

R0tational · 23/12/2021 14:51

Hate it when cars do this.

TheFairyCaravan · 23/12/2021 14:51

No it’s not.

It’s bad enough that a pedestrian or someone pushing a pushchair would have to go on the road to pass it, but it would be nigh on impossible for me on my mobility scooter. You can’t get up and down a kerb on one of those.

I can’t believe you need to ask tbh

NorthSouthcatlady · 23/12/2021 14:52

No.

Redcrayons · 23/12/2021 14:52

Of course not, you’re parked blocking the pavement.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 23/12/2021 14:53

No. How would a wheelchair user get round it?

LethargicActress · 23/12/2021 14:53

No. Obviously.

xyzandabc · 23/12/2021 14:53

Can see diagram now, it was as I imagined. Definitely not ok. Park between the two cars already on the road.

Justwalkyourfineassoutthedoor · 23/12/2021 14:53

No you cannot block the whole pavement. How is someone in a wheelchair supposed to get passed or someone with small children?

It is also illegal to block a pavement like that.

Lockheart · 23/12/2021 14:54

Not OK unless you're loading or unloading very temporarily.

45 mins is not very temporarily!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 23/12/2021 14:54

Of course the pavement can't be blocked!

Maybe for a minute or two doing a quick drop off and there's no other options, even then.. I'm not so sure.

There's a car near me that often parks over the pavement. I refuse to walk into the road so just trample over their drive and garden. They don't own the bloody pavement.
