Is this OK for 45 minutes? Parking

Itsaparkingone · 23/12/2021 14:47

See diagram - is it OK for car two to park half on the drive, across the pavement and sticking into the road, for 45 minutes/ an hour? The dropped kerb was put in place to enable access to the drive, so not sure what the rules are about keeping it free.

No - obstructing the pavement and partly the road

Waspsarearseholes · 23/12/2021 14:54

I'd be pretty annoyed if I was in a wheelchair and had to turn around to the next dropped kerb and then into the road until the next dropped kerb enabled me to access the pavement again. Likewise, a pram, a toddler and a couple of shopping bags would be extremely difficult to negotiate around a car parked so inconsiderately.

TheSmallAssassin · 23/12/2021 14:55

Yet another one's saying, no you can't park if you are blocking the pavement! If you've got someone who can't walk far or who has lots to carry inside then drop them off and park somewhere sensible and walk back.

Itsaparkingone · 23/12/2021 14:55

@TheFairyCaravan

No it’s not.

It’s bad enough that a pedestrian or someone pushing a pushchair would have to go on the road to pass it, but it would be nigh on impossible for me on my mobility scooter. You can’t get up and down a kerb on one of those.

I can’t believe you need to ask tbh

It's not me doing this, I don't even drive!!! I just wanted to check I was right thinking this was entitled behaviour. I can be a bit uptight about rules etc and just wanted to check this wasn't something that everyone else would just shrug off!

MaryBeardsShoes · 23/12/2021 14:56

This is deeply selfish parking.

Svara · 23/12/2021 14:57

I have heard of people walking between the cars with keys in their hand in this situation

Itsaparkingone · 23/12/2021 14:58

OK, thanks everyone!!! You've confirmed what I was thinking. Just to clarify: this is not my drive, nor my car(s); I don't even drive I just wanted to check I was right in thinking that this was crappy behaviour.

Absolutely not - how on earth is someone with a pram or using a wheelchair or a guide dog supposed to negotiate around that, especially with cars parked on the road with side? Appalling parking.

willagedisgracefully · 23/12/2021 15:04

It’s a no from me.

crowsfeet57 · 23/12/2021 15:21

Definitely not acceptable!

MissConductUS · 23/12/2021 15:26

Very nice diagram, OP. Well done.

dworky · 23/12/2021 15:31

No, the pavement or a dropped kerb should never be blocked. In London you'd be fined & towed away.

strawberrymilk7 · 23/12/2021 15:32

Your right OP, the person parking like that is in the wrong.

theSunday · 23/12/2021 15:32

The car is blocking the pavement which is a problem for pedestrians, sorry!

Orchid876 · 23/12/2021 15:34

People do this sort of thing all the time, but it's not OK imo. Anyone who blocks the pavement for buggies/wheelchairs is a selfish arse, but in my experience a half hearted "sorry" is the best that is offered from these douchbags if they're in the vicinity of their car and happen to witness the struggles of those trying to get past.

CodenameEgg · 23/12/2021 15:34

I've heard of people going to court for it and being convicted of criminal damage too.

I don't do that, but people might find their wing mirrors folded in (not broken) after I've squeezed past.

Parking on pavements goes straight into my room 101, it really really annoys me.

thatsallineed · 23/12/2021 15:43

Nope, not OK in any way, shape or form.

Hesma · 23/12/2021 15:45

Nope… that person is an ignorant twat individual and you should have stern words with them

Who is parking like that?
HotMummaSummer · 23/12/2021 15:50

Not okay... I do a walk around a few blocks once/ twice a day to get my daughter to nap and this would annoy me

gunnersgold · 23/12/2021 15:53

Near me someone does this all the time , like it's the extension of their driveway .

godmum56 · 23/12/2021 15:57

what would make you think that it is?

Megan2018 · 23/12/2021 15:57

It isn’t right rules wise, but I couldn’t get excited about it if it was in a quiet cul de sac where there isn’t anyone walking through, it would be really crap on a road with lots of pedestrians.
So depends a bit on the context tbh, 45 mins isn’t ages

AyeOop · 23/12/2021 15:59

@godmum56

what would make you think that it is?
The OP doesn't , but they were questioning themselves as they don't drive
