The wrong turkey!

Later today my big Christmas grocery shop is being delivered. Central to it are two organic free range turkey crowns (we are expecting a crowd). I've just got an email confirming my shopping has been picked and paid for and was very pleased to see that there were only 2 very minor substitutions...until I looked more closely and discovered that instead of the turkeys I ordered Waitrose are apparently sending me 2 turkey crowns stuffed with gingerbread.

Quite apart from the fact that they sound absolutely revolting I am annoyed that they are presumably battery farmed but cost the same price as the hugely expensive free range birds I so carefully preordered weeks ago.

I've double checked my original order in case I had gone mad and actually ordered these travesties but no, I definitely ordered the nice turkeys so it's definitely Waitrose mistake. Either they have sent me the right turkeys and put the wrong details on the receipt or 2 ginger bread flavoured birds are on their way. I won't know either way until the shopping arrives early this afternoon.

Obviously if it turns out they've sent the wrong thing I'll send them back and get a refund but that means I'll have to venture out to the shops in the pre Christmas hubbub to get a new main event - just what I was trying to avoid. I will be on tenterhooks between now and then!

I realise this is a first world problem. One way or another we will have a lovely dinner even if it ends up being meatfree. It's just annoying that despite being so smug organised and ordering everything weeks in advance the supermarket have thrown such an unexpected spanner in my plans.

YABU - eat the gingerbread flavoured turkeys and stop moaning

YANBU -turkeys should taste of turkey and gravy, with a soupçon of traditional stuffing. Gingerbread is for making little men that run very fast.

@Clymene

She posted again at 16.25. Name change fail
That's why I missed it when I looked for all the OPs posts then! Thanks.

Really? Do you naively think that Waitrose is any different to other supermarkets? Wow!

I've never stopped in waitrose so I wouldn't know. I thought it was all fancy pants organic expensive stuff the queen eats. I always check the label when I'm actually buying something in a shop.

I'm surprised you are so naive as to think everyone knows what every supermarket's welfare standards are like we can't all afford fancy pants food. Wow!

Free range turkey isn't turkeys living free wandering around a free farm. It is still a horrific existence.

all meat is unless you rear it yourself I expect. But at least free range is better than shed range

Sainsbury have just informed me that they are substituting my smoked salmon (400g).with a kilo of fresh sea bass at twice the price.

I am not amused and will be rejecting it. Sea bass and cream cheese sandwich anyone?

I'd be really cross OP, gingerbread stuffing sounds pretty vile.

Do they charge you more?! Tesco are good and just charge you what you would have paid for the original item.

Momijin · 23/12/2021 08:52

@spiderfluff I know just for many years I thought that free range was a good life for the animals even if they had to be killed at the end.

But most of them have a truly horrific existence. Most will never be outdoors, have their beaks trimmed and have a tortuous existence and painful death.

Just so people are aware that free range isn't really free range. It is only slightly less horrific than battery.

SpiderFluff · 23/12/2021 08:53

Most will never be outdoors, have their beaks trimmed what's the point of trimming their beaks?
@RandomLondoner Grin My organic bronze/black hybrid is currently in transit. Given what it cost, I'm expecting it to be delivered in a carriage pulled by unicorns and driven by Prince William.

Apologies to all turkey haters.
We ordered one of those fancy, eye-wateringly expensive turkeys one year from Eversfield. I sent ex DP to go pick it up and he was expecting to drive into a scenic farmyard with rolling hills and happy, fat animals wandering about.

Instead, it was a grubby chiller van parked up in a deserted car park and a grumpy man lobbing turkeys out of the back door. Ex drove 20 miles back home certain he'd accidentally bought drugs!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 23/12/2021 09:00

@SpiderFluff so they don't peck each other and cause injuries, which is what happens when you keep loads of birds packed together.

shakeitoffshakeacocktail · 23/12/2021 09:22

Update please @Newnameobviously
Very curious about gingerbread stuffing!

HaveringWavering · 23/12/2021 09:59

@shakeitoffshakeacocktail she did update, but had changed her name so it’s not immediately obvious it was her Angry. 16:25 yesterday.

TL:DR she had ordered the ones they delivered because the app was not clear about the stuffing and glaze. She returned them and got some plain ones in Morrisons.
