Covid lateral flow test my 3yr old without consent

ConfusedinCotswolds · 03/12/2021 13:25

I've just been informed by my 3yr old that my preschool/nursery provider have been lateral flow testing her. This was done without my consent, and without symptoms. Why do I feel so violated? What happened to individuals rights and bodily autonomy?
Can they do this without my consent?

Are you testing them and registering the results?

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 03/12/2021 13:30

Huh? Surely they can’t do this without permission?

Gearedtoyou · 03/12/2021 13:31

Your 3yo was able to tell you they'd had a LFT?

Whatwouldscullydo · 03/12/2021 13:32

They surely should have sent an email consent form Shock

I'd go nuts. I'd rather do it myself at home.

SarahJeffers341 · 03/12/2021 13:32

Our nursery just sent out a policy stating children under 11 shouldn't even be doing LFT's. IF they have symptoms they have to get a PCR. I'd be furious!

Why couldn't they? My son would certainly know if someone shoved a swab up his nose and tells me everything!
OnceuponaRainbow18 · 03/12/2021 13:34

@Gearedtoyou

Yes my 2 year old could easily tell me… not the point of the thread at all.

At secondary we aren’t allowed to do the swab for any kids, we supervise, even if the child asks for help.

I’d be fuming

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 03/12/2021 13:34

Under 11s are not supposed to be LFTed anyway?

I wouldn't be happy with this!

tiredanddangerous · 03/12/2021 13:35

No they absolutely can't do that without your consent.

Doggydreaming · 03/12/2021 13:39

Nobody should be sticking anything in your childs orifives without your knowledge and consent. Were they asking the children to keep this a secret Shock

Whatwouldscullydo · 03/12/2021 13:41

I'm.wondering what the point even is I mean not only do you have to wash your hands for 20 seconds before doing the test, well the results take 30 mins. It must take forever. Wtf r the kids doing the whole time they are waiting. How many staff are taken up swabbing noses instead of running activities the kids.

Parent are paying fir them to do what exactly?

Anyone just in for a morning or after noon.session would barely get to pay at all of they keep them in some kind.of quarantine corner til results are thru.

Whats the point

DeepaBeesKit · 03/12/2021 13:41

I would go absolutely mad. They do not have consent to do this.

ConfusedinCotswolds · 03/12/2021 13:44

Why would I be testing her?

OP posts:
ConfusedinCotswolds · 03/12/2021 13:45

She saw me doing mine, and recoiled from the swab explaining that one of her teachers "tiggled their nose with it" and said "I'm not poorly I don't need to see the doctor"

OP posts:
Heruka · 03/12/2021 13:47

This is dreadful, no they can’t do this without your consent and completely inappropriate- are you going to take it further?

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 03/12/2021 13:51

I couldn't get worked up about it personally. Presumably the child was willing, they didn't hold her down screaming?

I've LFTested my 6 year old niece. Was a total non event. Swabbed her throat then her nose and she sneezed then went off to play.

sirfredfredgeorge · 03/12/2021 13:53

Presumably the child was willing

A 3 year old can't give informed consent.... Not remotely, a person in power over them doesn't need to hold them down to abuse them, THINK a little bit before you write such please...

secondaries · 03/12/2021 13:53

An LFT is a medical device, the test is a medical procedure, same as a pregnancy test or an STD test.
People can't be doing them on others without consent.
The results are sensitive medical data and the data subject (person being tested) has to consent to what is done with the results in addition to the test being performed.
These are legal, ethical and safeguarding issues and I would query it with the authority that licenses/inspects this nursery and find a different nursery for your DC asap.

ConfusedinCotswolds · 03/12/2021 13:54

I don't know how to, any suggestions? I'm sure the way that hysteria is gripping the world that the legal system would probably end up siding with the nursery and state it was for public health or some nonsense.

NerrSnerr · 03/12/2021 13:54

Have you actually spoken to nursery? I would speak to them first.

NameChange30 · 03/12/2021 13:54

YANBU. I would be furious. I would make a formal complaint.

Some children don't mind the tests but a lot of children find them unpleasant and some children (including my DS) find them traumatic. It is up to the parent to decide whether to test and if so to decide when and how it is done.

How dare they Angry

SummerHouse · 03/12/2021 13:55

There has to be more to this!?. If they have tested your child without your consent that's unforgivable and unexplainable.

How do 40% think YABU!!!

ConfusedinCotswolds · 03/12/2021 13:55

I've emailed explaining what she told me and asked if they're conducting tests

Totally illegal and a serious breach of protocol. I would be reporting this to someone in power. Not sure who though. Make formal complaint to management. No one under 11 should be having an LFT. PCR if symptoms and that's it!

Gearedtoyou · 03/12/2021 14:00

There must be more to this. No one should be testing 3yos, no one should be testing anyone without consent.

A nursery would know this, so why would they even want to?

You need to talk to the nursery and find out what has happened.
