Covid lateral flow test my 3yr old without consent

I've just been informed by my 3yr old that my preschool/nursery provider have been lateral flow testing her. This was done without my consent, and without symptoms. Why do I feel so violated? What happened to individuals rights and bodily autonomy?
Can they do this without my consent?

I'd email and see what they say. If they tested your child without your consent that is really serious!!

That being said your child is 3, it could be that they were doing pretend play or something and the key worker tickled their nose but it wasn't a real test. My son a few years back (long before covid) did a thing at preschool where they all pretended to have jabs in their arms, took temperatures and listened to each other's chests with toy stethoscopes as they were playing doctors supervised by the key workers, none of it was real.

@ConfusedinCotswolds

She saw me doing mine, and recoiled from the swab explaining that one of her teachers "tiggled their nose with it" and said "I'm not poorly I don't need to see the doctor"
To me that sounds like your child saw a teacher testing themselves and recoiled from it and doesn't want to have to do one (seeing teacher do it and now you makes me them worry they will have to)...not necessarily that your child had it done to them already. Querying with the nursery first is correct

No idea why you feel violated.

I would be straight in the door asking for an explanation.

They would report them if they admitted it.

Its not on, and no they can't do it without your consent.

authenticforgery · 03/12/2021 14:16

You need to get the full picture first.

hangrylady · 03/12/2021 14:17

@Gearedtoyou

Your 3yo was able to tell you they'd had a LFT?
I imagine a 3 year old could communicate this!
Regularsizedrudy · 03/12/2021 14:19

I would contact the nursery to find out if this actually happened before posting on mumsnet but maybe that’s just me

justaskingagain · 03/12/2021 14:21

Could it be that she meant the teacher had tickled her own nose with it. Maybe someone mentioned it and the teacher had said that she had done a test?

Is she maybe describing her flu vaccine? That’s what we say when we administer the nasal flu vaccine.
loujikadhtusnsk · 03/12/2021 14:23

I'm would be very shocked if this actually happened.

bloodywhitecat · 03/12/2021 14:26

Did she say "tiggled their nose with it" or "tiggled my nose with it"? If she said "their nose" I would assume she'd seen a teacher administering a LFT to herself not the children.

One of her teachers tickled their nose with it? So she saw a member of staff doing a test?

That sounds like she saw a teacher doing their own LFT, rather than a teacher did a LFT on her.
Whatwouldscullydo · 03/12/2021 14:28

Why would the staff be doing the test at work anyway?

Surely they do it befire they get to work so they don't pass it to the kids at breakfast if it cones back positive?

Glitterblue · 03/12/2021 14:31

That's awful, we had to give consent for our 11 year old and the letter said if the kids weren't happy about it on the day, they wouldn't have to do it.

Tickled their pan nose or tickled your dcs nose?
Iggly · 03/12/2021 14:32

Their *own not pan 😂

Pinkflipflop85 · 03/12/2021 14:35

You sure she isn't referring to the nasal flu spray?

toomuchlaundry · 03/12/2021 14:37

Phone nursery and find out what exactly happened?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 03/12/2021 14:38

The nasal flu spray isnt administered by her teacher

Yes exactly, you've had time to email them and start a thread on Mumnet. Just pick up the phone and ask, or was this thread just designed to make people more stressed/worried/scared OP?
PinkWaferBiscuit · 03/12/2021 14:40

I'm surprised you jumped to the conclusion that the nursery is conducting LFTa on the children. Surely it's much more likely she saw a staff member testing themselves or she's recalling having the nasal flu vaccine and creating a narrative around that.

I'd say the staff testing her would be the very least likely scenario.

Ok. So it turns out a 3yo can't tell mum she's had a LFT Grin

There might be a question to ask but I don't know why you'd assume she's had a test.

shouldistop · 03/12/2021 14:45

If it's definitely happened then I'd pull her out of the nursery. Completely inappropriate of them.

Ozanj · 03/12/2021 14:47

3 yos don’t always process what they see logically. It’s far more likely they’ve seen a teacher do it themselves or another student had it done at home and is ‘giving’ everyone made up lft tests. Ask them to get to the bottom of it. There is no way a nursery in the UK would have the time to lft all their kids.
