AIBU to think some people are so inconsiderate

Today I was shopping in a local supermarket and there was woman walking around every aisle and coughing non stop, she was not wearing a mask, nor did she have a lanyard, but what irked me even more was that she didn’t make much of an effort to even cover her mouth whilst coughing.

Then when we were queuing to pay, she turned up behind me( I was scooting as fast I could around the shop to avoid her) and started to chat to the lone unmasked cashier across from our cashier saying”I see your smile, well done for not bowing down to the government like sheep, when we all have natural immunity”!! All said whilst coughing some more 😩 fully aware that there are tons of us around all masked up!

Then proceeding to chat to all and sundry around her. The worst part was she seemed so well spoken and articulate which seemed to clash entirely with her inconsiderate behaviour.

Aibu to feel like this woman was out of order?!

Was this in a film or something?

How odd.

Isbdm · 02/12/2021 11:23

I went to subway to get lunch and there were 5 people in the queue, 4 not wearing masks!

Lol.

ShirleyPhallus · 02/12/2021 11:23

There are inconsiderate pricks absolutely everywhere. I’d say 80% if the general population are awful.

Do what you can to avoid them, get your food shop delivered

Redcart21 · 02/12/2021 11:25

Is this the issue she wasn’t wearing a mask? She should be wearing a mask.
But YABU if the complaint is about her coughing. Some people have viral illnesses which aren’t Covid but still need to do their shopping

Masks aren’t compulsory in cafes.

“Only the poorly-spoken and stupid would deign not to wear a mask. I mean, she looked like she voted Remain for goodness sake!” Get over yourself you judgemental snob.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 02/12/2021 11:59

@skipperjonce I thought they only weren't compulsory whilst sitting at the table? I thought if moving around or queueing, they were? Although I'm in Scotland, may be different down in England (or wherever you are).

twelly · 02/12/2021 11:59

I don't agree with the rules on people wearing masks - however it is the law and therefore I think we need to abide by the law

And her coughing might be the reason she wasn't wearing a mask, although if she made the comment about natural immunity, probably not.

I do think if you know that you are going to cough and splutter everywhere you could at least put a scarf around your mouth, even if you can't cope with a full-on face covering.

yourestandingonmyneck · 02/12/2021 12:02

I wouldn't say she was being inconsiderate, she sounds like she was doing it deliberately to be inflammatory and provoke a reaction.

Either way, sounds like a selfish prick, yes.

Seriously? Not covering a cough/deliberately coughing into people's faces was always disgusting.
Redcart21 · 02/12/2021 12:12

@RuggerHug I said she should be wearing a mask. It’s the law and even more so if she has a cough.

But people who have viral coughs still need to go about their life. But they should be wearing a mask and coughing into that.

Stellaris22 · 02/12/2021 12:19

I have cough variant asthma so have regular coughing flare ups. Even pre covid I was massively self conscious about it. There's absolutely no way I'd be in a shop coughing without wearing a mask now, and pre covid I certainly wouldn't be coughing without at least using my hand/elbow/tissue.

There's no excuse for not containing your cough in some way, spraying it everywhere is awful.

This women sounds like she was being deliberately inflammatory and needs to get a life if this is how she entertains herself.

BHX3000 · 02/12/2021 12:21

She would’ve been kicked out where I live. Tbh she wouldn’t have made it past the front doors.

Problem solved Grin

YANBU, she sounds very inconsiderate. You can have whatever views you want but there’s no reason to talk to strangers about them. Imagine if someone started talking about their religious beliefs like that, people wouldn’t put up with it. Why do we put up with people like this lady?

thepeopleversuswork · 02/12/2021 12:23

There's a lot of this about at the moment. "Look at me, I'm such a free-thinking libertarian who won't be told what to do by the government". So selfish and tiresome.

I had a maskless woman sit next to me on a near-empty tube carriage two nights ago. Just beggars belief that anyone would be that much of a dick but they are.

I think they are when queuing to be served, but not when sitting at a table.

Chely · 02/12/2021 12:28

I really don't give a shit if people wear masks or not. I wear mine because I don't want a fine.

So if she’d have been an inarticulate accent ridden working class chav that would’ve made you feel differently?

Away wi your snobbery.

WheelieBinPrincess · 02/12/2021 12:30

That sounds like something from the ‘that happened’ sub on Reddit.

Ie, it didn’t happen.

And everybody clapped.

MerryChristmas31 · 02/12/2021 12:31

I wouldn't be worrying too much about the cough in itself , it could be anything. Most people I know are coughing but I would be annoyed at the lack of respiratory hygiene whne coughing. Masks are a difficult one. If she was exempt, fine but if not, a twat.

But I must inform you op, if you are referring to the sunflower lanyard, I'm glad she wasn't wearing one. So heavily used for the wrong purpose. They aren't just for mask exemption.

arethereanyleftatall · 02/12/2021 12:39

Some people are inconsiderate, and possibly worse, some people are judgemental snobs.

News flash shocker op - articulate people can be inconsiderate too.

Userguaranteed · 02/12/2021 12:45

I can almost see the credits rolling after the unexpected twist that she was in fact...gasp..."a well spoken and articulate" woman. Such a confusing "clash entirely with her inconsiderate behaviour" and openly anti-vax, anti-government comments.

Superb film. So well written.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 02/12/2021 12:50

Yanbu that she should wear a mask. Especially as she was clearly saying she’d just decided not to wear it rather than being exempt

Yabu about her being well spoken. Idiots come in all social classes.

abigailsnan · 02/12/2021 13:32

Did the Supermarket not have a new notice stating masks should be worn from 30/11/21 most of ours locally did & a security presence asking those who had "forgotten" to put their's on unless they where exempt from wearing one I feel this new variant will be much worse than the last one.
