AIBU to think being desperate to smoke & vape is a bit sad?

I mean the numerous bus drivers and tram drivers who can't wait to get off and light up in all weathers, dragging them out of their pockets while walking off the vehicle. People hanging around in the rain huddled about puffing away. I feel sorry for anyone as addicted as that and think it looks sad.

Better the vapers than the cigarette smokers.

Firstly vaping doesn't smell quite as bad and the second hand smoke won't kill you off.

Secondly vapers get less smoking related disease so costs as less as a society.

I don't suppose they need or want your pity or care that you think it looks sad.

What else is sad and desperate? Eating on public transport? Going straight out for a drink after a hard days work?

Nobody is forced to smoke. I’ll save my sympathy for those who are quitting and those people forced to walk through those huddles of smokers to get to where they’re going.

I'm a non-smoker but even I find your thread pathetic. Go and find something else to feel sad about.

It's an addiction. They probably don't care what guy think.

Any form of addiction is a bit sad in my opinion. Being a slave to a substance is unappealing.

But what you are seeing is the strength and power of addiction. The 4Cs of addiction are:
Compulsion - an overpowering urge to partake in the addiction
Craving - a physical sensation when withdrawn from the addiction
Consequences - persisting with the addiction even when there are negative consequences
Control - losing the ability to control when/if you partake in the addiction

If you've never suffered with any sort of addiction, then marvellous, lucky you. But they're not doing it because they're pathetic.

I don’t understand what this has to do with my post.

Theres a lot of misplaced pity going round on these threads today. People feeling sorry for people who go out out over 35 over yonder, and now here its for people who smoke or vape. If what you really mean is you think these people are bad and wrong, then for goodness sake say so, and explain why it bothers you. Why (pretend to) feel sorry for people who are probably perfectly happy living their day, minding their own business?

They're trapped by their addiction to cigarettes but at the same time they're free from giving a fuck what other people think.

Free yourself and stop worrying about what others are doing and enjoy your day. Problem solved.

Addiction isn’t fun. No-one needs to have judgment passed for having an addiction just because it “looks sad”.
The harm addiction does to the person and so on are a matter for concern for the people involved. I mean we don’t feel faux pity for billionaires who look stupid going into space or buying super yachts…

People don't like that it looks like smoking, is cheaper and less harmful What would they have to grumble about then? Support vaping because it helps people quit smoking which is better for everyone

OP sounds a bit holier than thou to me and full of faux concern.

Let them at it and live and let live, there are far worse things going on and people's lives are controlled enough thank you. Smoking and vaping are totally legal activities anyway outdoors.

Also what about people desperate for caffeine? Or alcohol? I have a heavy tea addiction but nobody whinges about that

You drinking tea has no effect on me. Someone smoking near me does.

I used to be very scathing and judgemental of smokers when I was younger. Then I grew up a lot and learned about the realities of addiction.

My mum (who has been a heavy smoker all her life) is dying of throat cancer and being witness to that and having learned about oral cancers and lung cancers means I just feel very sorry that anyone smokes.

Nobody would do it if they truly understood in the beginning but addiction is very real and very powerful.

As for Vaper's being better, I don't think it's been around long enough to say that. I know when I'm behind someone who is sucking on a vape my chest goes tight and yes it stinks.

As for it not costing society, that has yet to be seen. You can't really think you can inhale crap and not have your lungs suffer.

I knew a woman who only ever smoked weed, without tobacco. She got lung cancer in her late 40s, had half her lung removed.

People kid theirselves all the time over their habits. Does not matter if it's cigs, vapes, food or drink.

Vaping is also used to replace cigs. It's not giving up really is it. Again people kidding themselves. The sheer amount of vape 'smoke' from one drag is ridiculous.
