DD is 5 and they are having nursery rhyme week at school, the ones they are featuring are 'Head shoulders, knees and Toes' 'Incy wincy spider', 'Wind the bobbin up', 'down in the Jungle' and 'Sleeping Bunnies'

I've not heard of the last 2, I was born mid 80s and don't remember either of them, I've seen in the Jungle on a cbeebies or something, but I have never heard little bunnies, DD assures me she used to do little bunnies all the time at playgroup which nana took her to. But I've still not actually heard it until I have just looked up a video now and now I am all confused because DD insists it is just bunnies and there should not be frogs , elephants or crocodiles.

I tried Google to find out when and where it is from but I just get presented with different versions of the videos, I'm lost, did this one just pass me by?

OP - it’s all your fault that I now have a sleeping bunnies earworm!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 15/11/2021 17:38

I didn't hear it till I had a baby, but my 3 year old loves it!

littlemisskt · 15/11/2021 17:39

I don’t remember them from my childhood but sang them a lot working in nurseries and schools. Everywhere has their own way of singing certain songs too so missing verses or adding extra isn’t unusual :)

I’ve never heard of Down in the Jungle! I only learned Sleeping Bunnies when my DC1 was a baby at baby and toddler groups - we like it a lot. I don’t remember it from when I was little (early-mid 1980s). So YANBU!

gettingolderbutcooler · 15/11/2021 17:40

Oh we all Iove love loved sleeping bunnies!!

MichelleScarn · 15/11/2021 17:40

Oh so still, are they ill...Hop little bunny hop hop hop..
A frequent song at dcs bookbug classes

And also know down in the jungle, where nobody goes.. etc etc, but if hadn't been at baby and toddler groups would not have known those two!

Sally872 · 15/11/2021 17:41

Aww you must have done it. From memory

See the little bunnies sleeping way past noon
Shall we wake them with a merry tune
Oh how still
Are the ill
Wake up soon wake up soon.

Hop little bunnies hop hop hop
Hop little bunnies hop hop hop
Hop and stop.

Kids lie on floor as sleeping then hop around when the waking bit happens.

I remember sleeping bunnies from my childhood in the 70s, used to love that one!

And also Down in the Jungle from the same time.

LittleBearPad · 15/11/2021 17:42

dementedpixie · 15/11/2021 17:45

www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/nursery-rhymes-down-in-the-jungle/zfqgscw there are more animals in this one

TheSpiral · 15/11/2021 17:46

I was born mid 70s and didn’t know the sleepy bunnies or down in the jungle until 15 years ago when my friends started to have children - so I did know it by the time I did.
I also hadn’t come across the frog who goes nananana before I had kids, but my friend who was born the same time as me used to do it at Brownies, she says.

TheSpiral · 15/11/2021 17:47

“I did know it by the time I did” - II can’t even speak now. By the time I had children myself, I meant.

PiesNotGuys · 15/11/2021 17:49

Only learned little bunnies when I had a toddler myself, don’t know down in the jungle, how does that one go?

See the little bunnies sleeping till it’s nearly noon
Shall I wake them with a jolly tune?
Oh so still, are they ill?

Hip little bunnies, hop hop hop

RiskyCookie · 15/11/2021 17:50

I've just started working in a nursery and I'm embarrassed to say I don't know some of the rhymes. Blush

I didn't know those two either OP, I've a feeling I'll be singing them in my sleep soon though. Grin

shouldistop · 15/11/2021 17:51

I don't remember it from childhood but it's been sang at every playground and bounce and rhyme I've taken the kids to.

onemouseplace · 15/11/2021 17:51

I was born in the late 70s and remember Down in the Jungle as my Nan used to sing it with me.

Wind the Bobbin Up and Sleeping Bunnies were totally new to me when I had my own DC though and wouldn't know them other than from playgroups.

LittleOwl153 · 15/11/2021 18:00

Didn't come across sleeping bunnies till ds (now 8) was a toddler... even missed it with dd, so I think it must be relatively recent. It's one of those end of session type rhymes for playgroups etc.

Sleeping bunnies was played at a preschool gymnastics class I took my dcs to so it's quite an old song. My dcs are now 15 and 18
Rosebel · 15/11/2021 18:12

Didn't hear either of them as a child but when I started working in nurseries I heard both of these songs frequently.
It was always just bunnies in the sleeping bunny song though.

Plump82 · 15/11/2021 18:13

I only know it from my neice. She used to just stay sleeping even when the song was telling her to wake up!

Chr1stmasCarole · 15/11/2021 18:19

I love sleeping bunnies, you can make the sleeping part last for aaaaages if your ears are in need of a break!! Grin

LowlandLucky · 15/11/2021 18:25
