Did I say something wrong?

LouLouFromBatuu · 12/11/2021 09:15

Sat with group of mums yesterday lunch time. One said she and a friend had booked a spa weekend. I said “what treatments are you having”. Another mum spat her drink out and repeated “ooo let’s all have treatments” Confused
The woman went on to say what treatments she was planning and the other woman kept saying “treatments” over and over again. A WhatsApp group was created for us that day and it is called “treatments”. Is this a dig or what?? Have i said something wrong or am I being paranoid? I don’t socialise much so my judgement may be way off.

Because they're not going to your typical spa....they're going to a sex/swingers spa, where they definitely don't do 'treatments'....sounds like the others are all in the know about it too

Cocomarine · 12/11/2021 14:38

I’d reply, “I’m totally missing the joke on treatments here ☺️ Somebody fill me in! 🤣”

So: call her on it.

FangsForTheMemory · 12/11/2021 14:38

I'd be inclined to ask her what she would call treatments if she doesn't want to use that word.

Frazzledmummy123 · 12/11/2021 14:40

She sounds like she has a screw loose. The comment if on it's own could be put down to a silly misinterpretation on her part as perhaps she has an association with the word treatment. However, the continuing it, and the whats app group name is very strange. I am going to assume the whats app group was started by her?

At best, maybe she thought you took it well and as a joke so is trying to be funny by adopting it as an 'in joke' among you all, but lacks the awareness of how offensive and patronising she has came across. At worst she is plain and simple, a bully. I would call it out and put across that you don't find it funny and or understand the overreaction to a perfectly normal question you asked.

Legoninjago1 · 12/11/2021 14:41

That's so weird! I would have asked the same. Seems we are all hilarious!

IARTNS · 12/11/2021 14:42

Set up a WhatsApp group called 'Dicks', add Treatments woman and her friend, and then leave the group

Please do this

CuteAndFluff · 12/11/2021 14:45

It's probably because it's a big word and she's a tad intimidated.
You annoy her. For whatever reason. Her issue.
People probably think she's pretty strange making a group labelled 'treatments'.
She wants to bash your self esteem. Don't let her.

Create an imaginary group in your head and file her in it under 'twatments'.

Plutonium7000 · 12/11/2021 14:46

Please ask her what the fuck this is all about and report back - I want to know!

Then stop seeing her, she's a massive twat.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 12/11/2021 14:47

Same! I want to know too.

Its a perfectly reasonable question

Jeschara · 12/11/2021 15:00

Oh please, find new friends, that woman is a ignorant piss taking bully. She is a attention seeking pratt as well.
I hole she see's this thread and is embarrased. What a fool, a thick fool as well.

agnesflorence · 12/11/2021 15:07

Shes odd

Was it same woman who created the whatsapp?

I would have said treatments too

agnesflorence · 12/11/2021 15:09

Maybe they're planning on going to the spa day but not having any treatments at all

In which case they'll be bored and wrinkly from all the hot tub action

BusySittingDown · 12/11/2021 15:11

You should have given her the head tilt and said, "are you ok, hun?"

GertietheGherkin · 12/11/2021 15:28

She's obviously never been to a Spa and is going on a shoestring, but trying to play the 'big I am'
She's obviously ignorant and thinks everyone she tells will be impressed. She's obviously just going for a glorified swim and can't afford the whole package. Silly woman.
Anyone with an ounce of sense would use the word treatments. Just ignore her.
She's the one looking a fool.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 12/11/2021 15:39

I would have to add a message to the group saying

"Am I missing an in-joke here? Why is "treatments" funny?"

Maybe there is a meme or something in a comedy programme but more than likely she's just a nob.

Wishimaywishimight · 12/11/2021 15:40

Say "marmalade" to her and see if it gets a similar reaction. She might just not be familiar with big words 😆

furbabymama87 · 12/11/2021 15:53

I think this is the case too. Like she thinks treatments is for posh people or something and you were being "la di da" for suggesting it. I'm not into going to spas but would assume that people going would be having treatments. But she's a bully, just ignore her. She said that to make you look stupid, so make her look stupid by asking what the joke is. Then she'll have to explain that she can't afford treatments.

I think peaches has cracked it.
AreYouRightThereSkippy · 12/11/2021 15:55

Is this other woman Jay from the Inbetweeners by any chance? She's a twat. Treatments is the right word. What a weirdo!

AreYouRightThereSkippy · 12/11/2021 15:55

Or it's what peaches said Grin

Chocolatewheatos · 12/11/2021 15:56

She's a bloody nutter!

UnsolicitedDickPic · 12/11/2021 16:00

I hate this Mean Girls type shit. I would totally confront her on it. "What's the deal with 'treatments', is it particularly funny somehow?". Imagine a grown-ass woman being that much of a childish cow.

Ponoka7 · 12/11/2021 16:03

Get more assertive, if you meet up again and she takes the piss ask her to explain herself. That's can't do that without showing that they are a twat. You should have asked what does she think you go to a spa for. In future acted confused and get her to explain herself.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 12/11/2021 16:12

Ahhhhhhh....

😯

scarpa · 12/11/2021 16:31

That's some proper mean girl stuff!

The only thing I can think of is that they're doing one of those days where you pay for access to the spa (saunas, steam rooms, plunge pools etc) but not actually having any treatments themselves? A spa near me does a 'hydrotherapy journey' through various hot/cold pools and steam rooms and stuff, and you'd have to pay for actual treatments on top. But even so why not just go "Oh no, I'm just going to piss about by the pool and steam myself!"?

Very weird - she was obviously trying to imply you were being uppity or fancy or something by asking that, but I really don't know why other than that she's a dick!
