Did I say something wrong?

Sat with group of mums yesterday lunch time. One said she and a friend had booked a spa weekend. I said “what treatments are you having”. Another mum spat her drink out and repeated “ooo let’s all have treatments” Confused
The woman went on to say what treatments she was planning and the other woman kept saying “treatments” over and over again. A WhatsApp group was created for us that day and it is called “treatments”. Is this a dig or what?? Have i said something wrong or am I being paranoid? I don’t socialise much so my judgement may be way off.

How very, very odd. Trying to work out what her problem could possibly be??? Is she suggesting the word treatments is pretentious perhaps?? All very strange.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 12/11/2021 12:04

You said nothing wrong. That dickhead is clearly a bully and decided you are her current target. Ignore and don’t engage with her at all.

Teeturtle · 12/11/2021 12:05

Your question was normal. Your other friend is either a little odd, or maybe she has never been to a spa and doesn’t know the - well treatments - are called treatments.

WakeUpLockie · 12/11/2021 12:05

To kick off the new chat, ask her what she calls them if not ‘treatments’ 😂 I think I’d keep her at arms length while trying to forge friendships with the others. Oddball!

Eeiliethya · 12/11/2021 12:06

I don't get it??

I'd have to ask her what her beef is with treatments because I'd be genuinely baffled.

Is it some kind of weird reverse snobbery?

Fuck knows.

Lavender24 · 12/11/2021 12:06

She sounds idiotic.

Nandiniti · 12/11/2021 12:10

I'd say "What's the big deal about "treatments", that's what they are? What else would you call spa services collectively if not treatments?"

Piss-taking knob, who does she think she is. Hmm

JustAnother30Something · 12/11/2021 12:10

I'd call her out and ask what she would call them, if not treatments?

Fairly sure that's also what the spa call them 🤷‍♂️

minou123 · 12/11/2021 12:11

Nope, I can't see what you did or said wrong

If someone said they were going to a Spa, I would ask the same question.

I don't know how else you could phrase it....
"What thingys have you chosen?"
"What you getting 'done'"?
The sound terrible Smile

3scape · 12/11/2021 12:11

I'm not a spa person. But treatments, spa. Yup. She's crackers

AryaStarkWolf · 12/11/2021 12:15

What else are you supposed to call Treatments at a Spa, I genuinely can't even think of an alternative word for it

Vapeyvapevape · 12/11/2021 12:15

I’d steer well clear of her , she’s going to be trouble.

IVflytrap · 12/11/2021 12:16

She sounds like a dick, and ignorant if she's genuinely never heard the word treatments before. I've never been to a spa before, it's not for me, but even I know what it means. Some people are just like this, ignore her and leave her to her odd little world.

Iamanicepersonreally · 12/11/2021 12:17

What you said was perfectly normal. They sound horrible.

minniesdragg · 12/11/2021 12:24

Sounds like jealousy to me. Don't let this bully make you doubt yourself and feel socially anxious, you did nothing wrong.

thevassal · 12/11/2021 12:28

How did the other mums there react? Were they laughing along or looking at her like she was a loon? Did she set up and name the WhatsApp group? I would leave it for now but if she brings it up again you'll have to say something or it will become a running in-joke that isn't at all funny and will irritate you every time!

GaspingGekko · 12/11/2021 12:29

Benefit of the doubt for her, it's a bit of an odd word for a nice thing - if you're not a spa type person then you only really come across 'a treatment' for medical issues.
Maybe she's not a spa type person and so has never come across the term and thought it was an odd thing to say.

WakeUpLockie · 12/11/2021 12:31

Make sure you update us OP, I am so invested trying to figure out wtf her problem is.

You’re a nicer person than me 😊

Even with giving her the benefit of the doubt, there’s no need for her to take the piss like she is doing.

fuckyourpronouns · 12/11/2021 12:35

That is super weird!!! It's not you op

HerBigChance · 12/11/2021 12:42

@NotSoNewAndShiny

Typical bully behaviour. Picking on something random, making an inside joke about it - that only she (and other bullies) could possibly laugh about, simply based on you not knowing what it is - and making you question yourself.

Ignore her. You didn't say anything wrong.

Yup. This ^

You've probably used a Big Word and got above yourself, in her eyes. It's very secondary school behaviour.

edwinbear · 12/11/2021 12:58

Completely normal question, I'd have asked exactly the same. She sounds unhinged Confused

Saoirse82 · 12/11/2021 13:00

Weirdo. Not you her.

Bloodypunkrockers · 12/11/2021 13:02

Very strange

I would be asking her if she's ok. In a very PA, head tilty kind of way

TaraR2020 · 12/11/2021 13:05

@girlmom21

You didn't do anything wrong. They're probably just not used to hearing such long words. They sound like a pair of morons. Bullies usually are.
With bells on
