What a refreshing and positive change from Melania 'I don't care do u' Trump. Jill is what a real and modern First Lady is all about. Educated and truly involved in good causes, not some glorified clotheshorse who stamps her name on something without knowing what it really means

I so agree with this. What a classy woman. When she embraced the Ukrainian Ambassador at the State of the Union, it was moving because it was heartfelt. Yet MT was all about 'be best' and all that crap... it just shows how awful she was ... anyone who can moan about fucking Christmas trees deserves to be buried in ignominy.

Beto is extremely popular and missed being elected to Ted Cruz's Senate seat by thismuch. The bad news is the TX legislators have voted in some of the worst voting restrictions so far

Every time I've heard that man speak, I've been impressed. I hope he makes inroads but I read that 40% of voters have been wiped out by voting restrictions, I have NO idea how true that is.

Evidence and information available to the Committee establishes a good-faith belief that Mr. Trump and others may have engaged in criminal and/or fraudulent acts," the committee said in a court filing.

"The Select Committee also has a good-faith basis for concluding that the President and members of his Campaign engaged in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States," the filing said

Just touching on Ukraine very briefly: did anyone else cheer and then roar with laughter about the Ukrainian Roma stealing a Russian tank?

www.romea.cz/en/news/world/roma-from-kherson-oblast-in-ukraine-capture-tank-from-russian-occupiers

and watch the video: they are so clearly having the whale of a time with that tractor! I wonder what they did with it in the end...

AcrossthePond55 · 03/03/2022 18:41

@Roussette DH and I are going to donate to Beto's campaign even though we don't live in TX. As far as TX voters, I haven't heard any reliable number or of any huge recent purge. All I've heard is that they're 'sending letters' to supposed 'non-eligibles'. I do know that several lawsuits have been filed by civil rights groups to stop them. There is so much info and dis-info out there.

@DuncinToffee I really hope this effort succeeds. They want the emails from John Eastman. But again, my problem is that Doofus always puts layer upon layer upon layer between him and anything nefarious for 'plausible deniability', so I expect that even if there are emails they won't be from 'his' email but rather via Rudy or some other poor sap. The old "Will someone not rid me of this vile priest?' defense.

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime That video has made my day!!

TheSilveryTinsellyPussycat · 04/03/2022 11:55

I'm still lurking Smile
Is there a translation of that video, does anybody know?

FLA sends 15 week abortion ban to Di-inSane-tos for signature.

Many requests for amendments being filed, including requiring fathers to start paying CM at 15 wks, exemptions for rape, incest & etc, and health coverage amongst others.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/03/2022 18:46

Alas, no translation that I can find. But it seems to be a trend:

www.fwi.co.uk/news/ukrainian-farmer-uses-tractor-to-steal-russian-tank?share=email

The article concludes
Meanwhile, reports are emerging in Ukraine of Russian soldiers stealing fuel from farms – but farmers are hitting back by contaminating the fuel with chemicals.
“This is one reason why there are so many reports of Russian tanks breaking down,” said a source.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/03/2022 19:51

I have also just come across the rather fine if tongue-in-cheek theory about the reason Ted Cruz sports a face-fungus these days: he can't look at himself in the mirror any more, so shaving is too dangerous.

Roussette · 05/03/2022 11:45

Just listening to a live news conference with Antony Blinken and Poland's President. He comes across really well.
So refreshing after Mad dog Tillerson and Pompeo.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/03/2022 12:26

Putin must be really, really wishing he had invaded Ukraine a couple of years ago, when he would have met no international resistance to speak of on account of all his American toadies not lifting a finger for them.

AcrossthePond55 · 05/03/2022 18:02

I think Putin is like Doofus in that he's incapable of believing that his chosen course of action could possibly be 'wrong'. If there are problems, it's someone else's fault.

I wonder how many of his generals and advisors are currently looking askance at their windows and seriously thinking of adding security bars.

Jconnais1chansonquivavsenerver · 05/03/2022 19:48

Hello, I'm late to the party as usual, hope everyone is doing well, in particular AcrossthePond55's DH.
I apologize, I haven't read through this thread so my question may well have been answered, in which case if you could kindly just quote the relevant reply to me, I'd be grateful. Grin
I've been wondering why the GOP, and Trumpeters in particular, have been saying that Putin would never have gone into Ukraine if Trump were President. Surely that's abject nonsense? As AskingQuestionsAllTheTime says not far above, Putin would have found this invasion more of a pushover when Trump was President, he could have just walked right in with no opposition from the US.

Roussette · 05/03/2022 19:54

Surely that's abject nonsense?

Well... I think so.....

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/03/2022 21:01

I've been wondering why the GOP, and Trumpeters in particular, have been saying that Putin would never have gone into Ukraine if Trump were President.

The only reason I have been able to come up with is because they are obliged, if they want Trump's favour, to make it clear that nothing Biden does is right. Therefore he must be (in the) wrong in this instance, and saying there wouldn't have been a war if Trump were still president was the only way they could think of to make that sound feasible.

The originator of the lie was of course Trump himself. So feeding it back to him is sure to please him.

Jconnais1chansonquivavsenerver · 05/03/2022 21:36

@Roussette - I've noticed you and I always tend to agree, I like to think we'd get on famously if we were to meet in real life Grin Would be even funnier if we were actually friends already!
@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime - yes, that is the only "logical" conclusion to reach in the circumstances, thank you, I hadn't seen it like that, but I think you must be right.
I'm already having conniptions at the thought of Trump getting back in in 2024. Not long now and he's still not in jail, along with his entire conniving, corrupt family. It's shocking. 6th Jan 2021 should have done for him and the Republican Party. There is something rotten in the states of America.

Roussette · 05/03/2022 21:56

@Jconnais1chansonquivavsenerver

You never know, seriously!
Six degrees of separation and all of that....

I cannot believe 6th Jan hasn't done for the worst culprits of it. I cannot work out why....

I watched on CNN as it unfolded and could not move...it was horrific

Thank you for asking @Jconnais1chansonquivavsenerver . DH completed treatment and his 4 wk PET scan showed no traces of the cancer. He'll be considered truly 'cancer free' in 5 years. His blood and kidneys aren't 'bouncing back' so he's still getting IV hydration to flush the kidneys and hopefully restore full function. They've said there's nothing they can do about the lack of white blood cells, that has to come back on its own, or not. So we're still masking when we go out as he's considered immunocompromised.

As far as the Trumpinistas, you have to remember that his verbal diarrhea is considered 'stone tablets from Mt Sinai' by the 'Faithful'. They don't need to think about it or weigh the logic. They just accept it and any flimsy rationale (or none at all) will do. You just can't argue with stupid.

Would it have happened if Doofus was POTUS? I believe it's truly debatable. Putin has a bigger agenda than just Ukraine. If Putin kept up his 'flattery' of Doofus and Doofus kept kissing his arse, facilitating his agenda, and using US 'influence' to keep other countries from sanctioning Russia, Putin may very well have decided that invading Ukraine wasn't worth it compared to what he was gaining globally.

As it is and with Doofus 'out of the picture', Putin saw his main chance to add Ukraine to his empire, to hopefully make Biden look weak and improve Doofus' chances in 2024.

borntobequiet · 08/03/2022 07:46

That WP article is certainly useful in clarifying a number of things about Trump’s relationship with Putin and his pushing Putin’s agenda re Ukraine when we all thought it was just about working in his own interests (against Biden).
Someone on another thread quoted (Carole Cadwalladr?) pointing out that the Mueller Report is actually the most comprehensive outline that we have of Putin’s intentions and actions to destabilise the West.

That might've been me, I did link to CaroleC early one morning, and there then followed about five more posters linking it afresh!

I am deeply disappointed. The story about the Ukrainian granny who downed a Russian drone with a jar of pickled cucumbers turns out not to have been accurate.

It was a jar of pickled tomatoes.

And she had to run downstairs and stamp on the drone to make sure it was really smashed, too.

PerkingFaintly · 08/03/2022 22:55

Please let this story be true, Asking.Grin I needed that!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/03/2022 10:32

Seems to be true, Perking. www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/ukrainian-woman-drone-jar-tomatoes-26411524

I aparticularly like the attention to detail she seems to have displayed: "Elena and her husband distributed the remnants of the drone in a number of bins, in case the device could be tracked. They also cleared up glass fragments so their neighbour's dogs wouldn't risk suffering from cuts on their paws."

Vary sensible.

The comment "Pickles are an excellent probiotic on the microscale and an anti-drone weapon on the macro scale. Don't mess with Ukrainian Grandmas." seemed apposite.
