Inspired by another thread, I’m going to do my nails tomorrow but not sure what to go for… feels just a bit too soon for the red & sparkly, but summer pastels are long gone.

Can I see yours please? 💅

Jealous. And a tin as well?! Blatant favouritism.

I have a sparkly black on. I'll be getting them done in a couple of weeks so will choose a gold glitter to take me through December until nearer Christmas.

Oh there are some gorgeous colours here.
@Dixiechickonhols Can I ask what make that plum colour is? It's just what I've been looking for!

Would this be the place to ask about gel or shellac nails (I've never done either - always just paint on regular polish myself at home)?

This was to go with my Halloween costume

Lots of people with square-ish nails on here. Is square the new shape?
Will post a pic of mine later once I’ve done it,

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 05/11/2021 16:27

I prefer square(ish) - I think it looks the most elegant.

Dixiechickonhols · 05/11/2021 16:40

Leaveyourhaton it’s colour George porgie in magpie beauty gel.
I have mine done by local beautician it’s £21 for gel lasts 2.5/3 weeks. She files and tidies cuticles plus polish. It sets under a lamp so it doesn’t chip as easily.
I had acrylic nails for a while (they build your nail up) but it’s quite time consuming and I didn’t like them too long anyway. I had a big gap during covid just started again last month just gel and feel better with it.
I’m not into hair/makeup but does make me feel a bit more done.

As someone who works with patients my nails are the same in July to Nov...short and without nail damaging polish! But each to their own. I know no one who has anything else than I describe so I must live in another world!

There's no real defined shape any more. So many varieties, it's personal choice. I keep my nails in the shape that the grow as that is the shape they are the strongest in ie not likely to break or tear.

Learning how to fix a tear has been a god send. For those who don't know, a tea bag and some nail glue will get you out of trouble (keep that in the handbag for emergencies) but the best I have found is silk paper and nail glue. 3-4 weeks of that can be the difference between a nasty low tear and a short but wearable nail.

If you get into nails a bit there's really fun things you can do like hombre / fades, stamping plates, stickers, tape patterns like someone had above etc I really enjoy changing mine every week.

Having mine redone this weekend. Think I will go for either navy blue or bottle green this time.

Can I ask, does anyone have any recommendations for a good gel varnish? I had OPI when I used to get my nails done at the salon and I loved theirs but now I use a machine at home and my varnishes are by Mylee. They’re good but I’m not that keen on the ‘feel’ of the colours, if that makes sense? A little too glossy, and I’d like to find something that looks a bit deeper.

shouldistop · 06/11/2021 12:56

@HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule the gel bottle is what my salon use and they're great.

SickofCovid · 06/11/2021 14:04

A bit neutral but went for a change.
