20 weeks for a sofa!!!!!

ThesecondLEM · 31/10/2021 16:31

That's like, five months 😱. I need a sofa now. Well not now but sooner than next March.

We have a short list of possibles and the fastest delivery is 14 weeks!

It's also a lot of money to fork out without a definite delivery date. Trusting that the company's won't go bust.

I am pretty fickle and vacillate between leather and fabric on an hourly basis.

I’ve bought a sofa today - independent retailer.

Quoted 14 weeks when we looked at it 2 weeks ago. Chap today said nervously “How long did X say the order time would be?” clearly expecting me to have unrealistic Christmas desires and then said, a bit relieved, “I’ll put 14-16 weeks … best to err on the longer side” and gave me the big lecture about how tough manufacturing and logistics was at the moment.

I knew all that though - I want that particular sofa and I knew it would be a wait. If I wanted one quick I’d look online and refine my search to only ones in stock. You can get things delivered really quick but your choice is restricted. Depends what your priority is.

As I’m lazy I just think it’s more time to procrastinate decorate.

Consumer demand is through the roof. We’re seeing 1000% increases over 2019.

My sales guy said this too. I’m not surprised. All that lockdown time staring at the same old stuff, extra wear and tear on things like sofas, and a bit of extra cash from not going out/on holiday if you were lucky enough to keep your job.

Tiredofthetired · 31/10/2021 20:57

Snug Sofas! Mine came within a week of ordering it, the customer service was great, and it’s the nicest and most comfortable sofa I’ve ever owned. I couldn’t recommend them more.

We brought a DFS sofa x2 and an armchair in the clearance and it was available immediately (ex-display). It was delivered the following week.
It was pristine and much cheaper than usual.
Ok I guess some people sat on it in the showroom ....

MerryPumpkinmas · 31/10/2021 21:01

I recommend IKEA. You can go down to the warehouse bit and see what is available to get then and there. We are waiting something like 20 weeks for our new front door as well. Sadly no IKEA for those!

LadyCleathStuart · 31/10/2021 21:02

We had a 12 week wait from DFS which turned into a 16 week wait which then turned into 'Well we know it will be in the country by X dage bit we can't say when we will deliver it'.

I cancelled and went to Ikea. Got a Kivik and love it.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 31/10/2021 21:07

Order from Swyft, your sofa will arrive in 48 hours

maofteens · 31/10/2021 21:20

I didn't want to wait either so ordered from Citysofa. It said two weeks but it was five, still better than the 16-18 weeks from other companies.

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 31/10/2021 22:59

Everything @Happyhappyday said.
We ordered a new car 20+ weeks ago apparently it 'might' be here for Christmas but I'm not holding my breathe. Realistically we are looking at 2022.

VestaTilley · 31/10/2021 23:13

IKEA will get you one far quicker than that. Or any of the big sofa sellers who have an ex display model for sale.

Otherwise, YABU, they need time to be made and/or shipped.

OrangeJuiceAndNoodles · 31/10/2021 23:54

I bought a boxit sitstyle about a month ago from DFS and it arrived within about a week.

It wasn't my first choice but they told me they can get them out quickly and to be honest, it looks beautiful (bought it in midnight blue) and is very comfy.

So if anybody desperately needs a sofa before Christmas, I would recommend it.

Here's a link if it helps anybody: m.dfs.co.uk/sit-style/bxs13abvx

Bought IKEA gronlid, came in 3 days
Actually the most comfortable I’ve had out of my Oka and Sofa and stuff made to order one.

bettythebutterfly · 01/11/2021 01:46

I don't think it's a Brexit issue (though I'm sure that's not helping). I'm in the US and finally took delivery yesterday of a sofa I ordered on May 25.

Cocogreen · 01/11/2021 02:14

Perfectly normal if it's being made in China.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 01/11/2021 02:27

Unfortunately, this is quite normal now.

It is also why I choose to shop at IKEA.

I second this!

We ordered two G Plan sofas from Furniture Village at beginning of July and were told 17 weeks for delivery. We got them delivered last weekend. So it was a fairly accurate timescale. I believe G Plan are made in the UK.

AllTheCakes · 01/11/2021 03:25

I really rate Sofas & Stuff, their Pronot range they hold stock of so quick delivery is an option. www.sofasandstuff.com/chancery-lane?Sku=chclchfithoxoli

I ordered a sofa 2 weeks ago. Particularly picked one that they had available for quickly delivery. They picked up my old sofa on Friday. We're delivering my new sofa on Saturday.

It still hasn't come. Apparently it went missing in transit a week ago and no one bothered to call me or delay picking up my old sofa. So we don't have anything at the moment. Apparently no one could track down the sofa on a weekend Hmm and no one realised it was missing until half an hour before my delivery time.

There's a possibility it is in one of 2 depots, both less than 10 miles from my house. But no one knows until one of the warehouses bothers to reply to an email from customer service which they admit could take ages.

Tbh, wished I had just ordered the one I wanted and waited however long it was going to take.

backtolifebacktoreality · 01/11/2021 05:33

It's a ridiculous amount of time. We had a big extension built and fitted out in less time than that!

ThesecondLEM · 13/11/2021 21:02

We decided on the ektorp in the end! Much cheaper and when we went and sat on them surprisingly comfy. My dog is 15 and does have accidents so something we can wash the covers and not worry too much about is great for us just now. Thanks to the pps who suggested them.
