20 weeks for a sofa!!!!!

ThesecondLEM · 31/10/2021 16:31

That's like, five months 😱. I need a sofa now. Well not now but sooner than next March.

We have a short list of possibles and the fastest delivery is 14 weeks!

It's also a lot of money to fork out without a definite delivery date. Trusting that the company's won't go bust.

I am pretty fickle and vacillate between leather and fabric on an hourly basis.

Im waiting 21 weeks for new door and windows, due to be fitted on a no doubt cold day in January!

KatharinaRosalie · 31/10/2021 17:57

Go to IKEA. You can check what they have in stock.

Mamamia7962 · 31/10/2021 18:02

DFS have always had a long waiting time. I remember ordering one from them over 10 years ago and the wait then was 3 months.

SpacePotato · 31/10/2021 18:03

Are there any local warehouse type furniture shops by you?

We have one nearby that has sofas made for next/m+s etc from when customers changed mind or end of season etc. Got ours with big discount delivered next day.

MyDcAreMarvel · 31/10/2021 18:03

Just buy a second hand ✋ me. Sofas loose their value almost immediately.

MyDcAreMarvel · 31/10/2021 18:04

Umm I meant second hand one.

Roselilly36 · 31/10/2021 18:05

I agree standard wait for a sofa atm.

TillyDevon · 31/10/2021 18:06

I’m all for second hand too- it’s amazing what people get rid of when they move house/ go abroad and takes a bit of looking and time but often worth a try.

Silenceisgreat · 31/10/2021 18:12

I've just ordered a dresser today and delivery date is 31st January 🙄 I'm just hoping firm doesn't go bust as I've paid over a grand 😳

tickingthebox73 · 31/10/2021 18:15

sofa.com - 8 weeks delivery....

Amiable · 31/10/2021 18:19

Have a look at the clearance section on sofology - that's where aI got my new recliner. Ordered it Saturday, they called Sunday to see when I wanted it, could have had it on the Monday but had to wait for the old one to be taken away so got it delivered Wednesday!

There's a good selection too, and you get all the guarantees you get with the new furniture.

I've been recommending it to everyone!

TillyTopper · 31/10/2021 18:32

We waited a similar amount of time for our Loaf.com items - amazing though and so worth it!

BackBackBack · 31/10/2021 18:39

Another one saying buy second hand. It's worth a bit of searching online as there are commercial units where businesses sell second hand sofas. We bought ours (which was immaculate without a mark on it) as it was actually a brand new Sofology sofa that had a small defect on it and the customer had rejected it. Store couldn't sell it so it was passed on and sold as a factory defect. We paid £1500 for a sofa that should have cost £4k. Our previous sofas have been second hand from similar places, as they sell on the sofas that people have traded in - many of them are in really good condition but you can get them for a few hundred quid.

featheryfancy · 31/10/2021 18:58

I ordered from DFS in May with delivery estimated for September. Still waiting with delivery now being estimated end of November

Chicken40 · 31/10/2021 19:05

Unfortunately there is a shortage of fabric/leather, foams, springs and even wood for the frame. A lack of containers, ships to transport and then our driver shortage has led to extremely long waits. Trying to explain this multiple times a day and being told your incompetent is fun….

PlanDeRaccordement · 31/10/2021 19:07

Brexit world problem

hennaoj · 31/10/2021 19:09

Try a sofa warehouse type place (usually in old mills) . They have brand new sofas (ex display, end of line) very cheap. I got mine same day delivery about a year ago and they took away the old, knackered one. Alecs 3 piece suites in Bolton is one.

Cheerychirpy · 31/10/2021 19:49

I would check out the trustpilot reviews for all sofa companies before ordering. Some of the big names repeatedly miss delivery dates and have diabolical customer service.

Happyhappyday · 31/10/2021 20:22

Just to chime in… the logistics world is on fire. Like literally the house is burning down. I work on the supply side of retail and honestly, the shit has just started to hit the fan. Factories are closed/at 20% of capacity in a lot of countries and that hits every point: fabric is delayed at one factory, wood at another, nails at another, final assembly at another. Freight costs are 10-100x what they were before and that also hits at every point, getting goods out of factory, across the ocean, at UK ports. We’re seeing our vendors paying increased costs to secure space on boats, only to have someone else swoop in and pay more for the space and ours get booted at that last minute.

Consumer demand is through the roof. We’re seeing 1000% increases over 2019.

I’d be shocked if you actually get your sofa in only 20 weeks.

Notcontent · 31/10/2021 20:28

I don’t think it’s just Brexit. Apparently there are lots of supply chain delays across the globe.

AdditionalCharacter · 31/10/2021 20:38

I'm meant to be getting mine next month, ordered in June. Hoping it does arrive before Christmas as I've planned where my tree is going with the new suite configuration.

Ibizafun · 31/10/2021 20:40

Ridiculous

ScarletPower · 31/10/2021 20:40

Snap! We ordered a sofa last Sunday and was given a 20 week timescale. Thankfully we're in no rush for it and we're getting it on interest free credit which wont start until after the sofa has been delivered.

userxx · 31/10/2021 20:40

I ordered something from made.com in March!! Not a sofa but I feel your waiting pain.

DukeofEarlGrey · 31/10/2021 20:47

I have a wait up to 23 weeks for mine. Every two weeks John Lewis sends an email labelled 'update on your order' and I get all excited until I open it and read ANOTHER generic 'your order is progressing fine' message.
