20 weeks for a sofa!!!!!

ThesecondLEM · 31/10/2021 16:31

That's like, five months 😱. I need a sofa now. Well not now but sooner than next March.

We have a short list of possibles and the fastest delivery is 14 weeks!

It's also a lot of money to fork out without a definite delivery date. Trusting that the company's won't go bust.

I am pretty fickle and vacillate between leather and fabric on an hourly basis.

We waited 3 months for our lazy boy sofa last year but as it was on interest free finance we didn't mind the wait as we weren't out of pocket. Plus that option gives peace of mind.

GoingForAWalk · 31/10/2021 16:35

That's normal as they have to make it.

Creamcake123 · 31/10/2021 17:03

I ordered a sofa from Sofology at the beginning of May, it was supposed to take 12 weeks but we are still waiting for it to be delivered. The latest date we have been given for delivery would be 27 weeks after we placed the order - however they have changed this date 5 times so I don't hold out much hope!!

Choice4567 · 31/10/2021 17:05

@ithoughtisawapuddycat we’ve just done the same. 20 week wait which is annoying, but on 0% finance that starts once we’ve received the sofa so that part doesn’t seem too bad

catblanket · 31/10/2021 17:06

This is why we went to Homebrands to get ours!

hazelnutlatte · 31/10/2021 17:08

I waited 6 months for garden furniture and a dining table! Got sofa from snug - it arrived in 3 days!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 31/10/2021 17:08

@Creamcake123 we have experienced the exact same thing, even down to 5 date changes from May! I want my new settee!

Lynne1Cat · 31/10/2021 17:12

I bought 2 Habitat leather settees from Argos, delivery was a fortnight. They're lovely, firm, hopefully hard-wearing, and at a decent price.

icedcoffees · 31/10/2021 17:14

Most expensive sofas are made to order.

We got ours from Argos and it arrived within a week (would have been sooner but we were both unavailable to receive delivery).

Papyrus · 31/10/2021 17:15

I had a four month wait earlier this year from DFS. There's a shortage of the raw materials used, particularly sofa foam I think. Plus covid and brexit don't help.

ChocolateHelps · 31/10/2021 17:16

Swfyt is next day, I believe. They have some to sit on to try out at my local department store. Limited choice of style and fabrics but that's why quick delivery is possible

Try Snug Sofa if you want one quick?

Bingbong21 · 31/10/2021 17:18

My DFS sofa is due in February. 4 months to get the 5 year old reliably toilet trained Grin

CaptainCabinets · 31/10/2021 17:19

My DFS sofa took nearly five months! Delayed by a month...and they only told me after the due date came and went, after I’d got rid of my old ones 😬 a month on deckchairs was rubbish, but the new sofa is perfect 😍

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 31/10/2021 17:21

That's normal.

Get a second hand one?

bloodywhitecat · 31/10/2021 17:28

We ordered a new leather sofa from Sofology yesterday, we have a delivery date of 12th Nov. We cannot wait 20 weeks, DH could be dead by then, but we were told that was the industry norm at the moment.

NoSleepTil · 31/10/2021 17:35

I work in a high end furniture store. In the past a custom sofa would take about 6 - 8 weeks, now it’s 5 - 6 months. Case goods can take even longer. One customer has been waiting a year for dining chairs, when last I checked the estimated ship day is February 2022

Toottooot · 31/10/2021 17:38

We were told 5 months is the shorter end of the queue. We bought a sofa in April when the stores reopened and were told the wait was a combination of Suez Canal, Covid and Brexit. Unbelievably said sofa arrived in 4 weeks. The store had expected it to be popular enough to warrant ordering items to carry in stock and because stores had been closed since Christmas no orders had been made so we got very lucky.

ThesecondLEM · 31/10/2021 17:39

We going to try IKEA next week. I don't like not knowing

DriftingBlue · 31/10/2021 17:39

My ILs bought one recently. The one the wanted was going to be 9-12 months. They ended up buying a floor model.

I’ve want to buy a new china hutch. The delivery time on the one I was looking at is at something like 18 months right now. Instead I’m just stalking IKEA as a stopgap. The one I want there is out of stock, briefly restocked but I missed out (I got the text notification and by the time I logged in they were gone) and now I’m waiting for the next restocking which I’m told will be in a few weeks.

BrilloPaddy · 31/10/2021 17:39

I'm in the trade. We used to be able to make a sofa in 12 weeks, now we're looking at 16 to 20 weeks. Wire for springs is in short supply; and foam the same. Our frames are made locally and now take 8 to 10 weeks instead of 4. It's a nightmare. And we source nearly everything from the UK.

We're at the mercy of our suppliers unfortunately. I have to count to 10 and take a deep breath with every customer asking if they can have it for Christmas...........

SlipperTripper · 31/10/2021 17:39

We were quoted 30 weeks the other day - I'll have cooked this baby by then!

Amused me no end that it took Furniture Village longer to knock up a sofa than me to make a human 😂

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 31/10/2021 17:40

Yup.
Ordered ours from DFS in April.
It arrived in September.

Cryalot2 · 31/10/2021 17:46

Ez living and it took a month at most.
Biggest regret was not talking out insurance which covered all damage as puppy then bit a small hole in it..
They were to send someone to repair but he never came, but given it is in the conservatory we just use throws.
We had lots of choice and reasonable and would buy there again.

Twizbe · 31/10/2021 17:51

Our SCS sofas were ordered in august and originally scheduled for delivery around now. The date is now 17th Dec! They've moved it more than once and promised the last time was the last move ...

Our made sofa is due to arrive in Jan so we'll see how that goes.

We've been without a sofa since Easter!
