How strong are Wetherspoons cocktail pitchers?

Sorry posting here for traffic. Going out for cocktails and the pitchers have 4 shots of spirit in them. If we drank 1 pitcher each we wouldn't be drunk would we? I try to avoid getting too inebriated! Thanks

If I had 4 shots I’d be absolutely fucking trolleyed.

RightOnTheEdge · 28/10/2021 16:32

If you are drinking pitchers, then they have 4 shots of spirits in but tons of ice and filled up to the two pint marker with juice and lemonade.
They don't even taste of alcohol they are very diluted.

Merryoldgoat · 28/10/2021 16:33

Personally no, I’d be pleasantly merry but not drunk.

DeepaBeesKit · 28/10/2021 16:33

Everyone's different

In my twenties I would have barely noticed it. Now I'd be fairly tipsy.

Starcaller · 28/10/2021 16:34

Not very strong but very drinkable!

RightOnTheEdge · 28/10/2021 16:34

I drink very rarely and am a total lightweight but one Spoons pitcher has no effect on me.

MeredithGreyishblue · 28/10/2021 16:34

It depends on the ABV of the spirit and how long it takes you to drink it. Confused

Does your mum know you're in Spoons??

Starcaller · 28/10/2021 16:36

Yes they are nowhere near the strength of 'proper' cocktails you get in a more upmarket place. Did used to love a WooWoo fishbowl though!

Funkyslippers · 28/10/2021 16:38

Meredith I'm the mum lol!!! Going out with DD who's just turned 18 and wants to try her first cocktail in a pub! I guess the ABV is around the 37% mark but very diluted. We'll probably make a pitcher last a couple of hours. I usually have no more than 2 glasses of wine

I think 4 shots is the same units as 2 pints of beer? I don’t think that’s an excessive amount myself but everyone has a different tolerance

peboh · 28/10/2021 16:39

Not strong at all really in my experience. Especially with the amount of ice they put into them, they become really diluted quickly.

KurtWildeWitchOfTheWoods · 28/10/2021 16:40

Very diluted and tons of ice. I'm a lightweight but I've had a full one when out for a meal and I've barely noticed it had alcohol in tbh.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 28/10/2021 16:40

No. They don't remotely effect me.

Fetarabbit · 28/10/2021 16:40

They're really diluted, you'd have to drink a lot of the mixers along with the shots to get drunk. They're the same size as the pitchers you'd get at school for water, and 4 shots is hardly anything amongst the ice and fizzy/juice- unlikely a double with coke for example, you'd be super full up before super drunk.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 28/10/2021 16:42

very diluted and barely taste of alcohol. My DD rarely drinks but can manage one of them without any probs.

slashlover · 28/10/2021 16:42

If it's four measures of normal strength spirits then it's four units. The recommended units for a woman per day is 2-3 but if you're drinking it over a few hours then it should be fine. Maybe have some chips of something halfway though?

Pedalpushers · 28/10/2021 16:42

In the past I've managed 2 before being too full and hyped on sugar to drink anymore, and not been more than tipsy.

JorisBonson · 28/10/2021 16:43

She'll get more wired from the sugar in full fat coke. Spoons pitchers are mostly ice and juice!

Drinking 4 shots of say vodka, in a pitcher, watered down, over 30 minutes, is much the same as having 4 shots of vodka every 7.5 minutes with some drinks of water or soft drink in between. Neither is more alcoholic than the other.

Do you think you'd be drunk after 4 shots? I don't think any of us can tell you your own tolerance.

As a handy note: I believe your liver process approximately 1 unit of alcohol an hour. A 40% shot (25ml) equates to 10ml of alcohol, which is 1 unit. So if you had 2 pitchers over 3 hours, totalling 8 shots (~8 units assuming ~40% spirits), you'd probably only be feeling the effects about about 5-6 units because you would have already processed some of the alcohol out of your system.

LampLighter414 · 28/10/2021 16:46

Also I recommend Purple Rain if they still do that, so tasty, and not so alcoholic because 2 of the shots are curacao which I think is ~20%

FangsForTheMemory · 28/10/2021 16:58

No wonder they taste of disappointment. One of my margaritas has three shots of alcohol in it. that's how a cocktail should be.

LittleGwyneth · 28/10/2021 17:00

I've never managed to get drunk on pitchers, but I do have a pretty staggering tolerance. You drink it a lot more slowly than a shot because it's more volume and you have to pee pretty quickly because it's not the most nutritious of liquid!

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 28/10/2021 17:59

"No wonder they taste of disappointment"

😂 so true

Now that's my type of marg. DH got too good at long Island ice teas during lockdown. I don't remember much.
Sprostongreen21 · 28/10/2021 18:22

They have four shots in but are full of ice and mixers. Not strong at all not like a proper cocktail.
