My Cousin has copied my Wedding Dress for my Wedding Day!!!

I am getting married shortly, and have shown my immediate family my wedding dress (those who I trust). I have bought this dress in June time and have gone for something a bit more modern in comparison to traditional Asian brides. My teenage cousin was one of the people who had seen my dress. My family asked for a colour scheme for them to wear to my wedding in which I told them a colour scheme that matches my theme. I then recently spoke to my cousin who told me she has a dress in the specific theme we told her. She sent me a photo of her dress and I am shocked at how similar it is to mine! Its the same shade colour and embroidery and details are the same colour and design too!! AIBU to think this is really out of order!

Is her wedding before or after yours?

Eyerollsausageroll · 22/10/2021 21:33

Do you mean she's coming to your wedding in a dress similar to your wedding dress?

happytoday73 · 22/10/2021 21:33

Agree with previous poster.. Depends on wedding timings

Thehop · 22/10/2021 21:33

Is she getting married or a guest at your wedding?

PrincessA1203 · 22/10/2021 21:34

@LibrariesGiveUsPower45321 she is a teenage girl, she isnt getting married at all, her mum and herself would have chosen this outfit together

@Eyerollsausageroll yes she will be attending as a guest to my wedding

sounds like it! Not really on is it...
DrSbaitso · 22/10/2021 21:35

The same colour, even after you gave them a colour scheme? And same embroidery etc? As her outfit for your wedding?

Lollypop701 · 22/10/2021 21:36

Can you tell her it’s inappropriate?

Monsterpumpkins · 22/10/2021 21:37

Just tell them your colour scheme has changed...

PrincessA1203 · 22/10/2021 21:37

she is a guest to my wedding

I'd speak to your mum who can maybe have a word via her mum (or dad depending on how related you are)

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 22/10/2021 21:38

Tell her sorry but that is way too similar to mine. Tell her to get a new one and wear the other for another event.

Still1nLove · 22/10/2021 21:38

You’ll have to say something. How did either of them think it would be appropriate to wear something so similar?

JaneDoe21 · 22/10/2021 21:39

Just tell her how similar it is to your dress and how uncomfortable you are about it. I'm sure they'll understand if not uninvited. ;)

PrincessA1203 · 22/10/2021 21:39

@DrSbaitso my colour scheme was to match the whole wedding theme, my dress matches the theme! the embroidery details are ridiculously similar you can barely tell the difference

I’d give her benefit of the doubt that she misunderstood the instructions.

LivingNextDoorToNorma · 22/10/2021 21:39

She’s bought a wedding guest outfit that is the same as your wedding dress, to wear to your wedding????? Who voted YABU? Does anyone honestly think it’s ok to go to a wedding dressed as the bride?

She's a young teenage girl, FGS. Calm down. She probably doesn't even realise that it's a big deal. I would assume she was told what theme and colours to look for and thought she found a great choice. I highly doubt this was malicious.
Regularsizedrudy · 22/10/2021 21:45

She’s a teenager who looks up to you, no ones gonna think she’s the bloody bride

Chloemol · 22/10/2021 21:55

I would just change your dress

Couchbettato · 22/10/2021 21:57

I was talking to my Asian colleague last week about Asian weddings because they're so beautiful but I've never been to one, and she said that it's all about looking good, and some times the guests even try to out do the bride.

I was shocked because to me I just think every one looks collectively beautiful but she said it's all down to the fine details like the embroidery, so it's a case of if you know you know.

Twinsmum2003 · 22/10/2021 21:57

Just say “could you change the dress please or wear it another time, it’s beautiful but a bit too similar to mine”. She’s probably going to be embarrassed unless she’s really spiteful.

mellicauli · 22/10/2021 21:58

I think you need a 3rd party to handle this for you. Have you got a mum or a sister with diplomatic way about them?
