To put the heating on

Nothing too dramatic over here 😂 just curious if anyone has put their heating on yet. Dunno why I’m seeking ‘approval’! We are all wearing jumpers but still cold!

Mines been on for months...

MatildaIThink · 22/10/2021 10:43

Not yet, inside of the house is still no lower than 20c so no need, in the South East so not got particularly cold yet. Dropped a little over the last couple of nights but still a long way from Arctic.

Shoxfordian · 22/10/2021 10:44

We have had it on for ages
Why wouldn’t you if you’re cold?

LittleDandelionClock · 22/10/2021 10:47

Are ya kiddin?!

We have had ours on for WEEKS now - since late September. Although probably only 2-3 hours a day at the most.

And some days we haven't had it on.

Dreading how much the gas bill is gonna go up to though!

LittleDandelionClock · 22/10/2021 10:48

Well exactly. I am all for money-saving, but like fuck am I going to sit in a cold house.
InTheLabyrinth · 22/10/2021 10:55

The house has been below 16 a couple of times, so yes, weve switched the heating on!
If the house is cold, and you can afford it, why wouldnt you switch it on?
If the house is 20C, and you are wearing shorts, and complaining you are cold, perhaps a rethink is required.

ABitOfAShitShow · 22/10/2021 10:58

I had mine on some days in August! It's on loads now...

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 22/10/2021 10:58

It's been on a handful of times but it's been so mild lately we mostly haven't needed it. Temperature has dropped a bit the last day or so, so definitely on now!

DuvetDayIsEveryDay · 22/10/2021 11:07

Nope. Still sleeping under a sheet with the windows open..

TuftyMarmoset · 22/10/2021 11:10

We don’t have the heating on, I just checked the thermostat in the living room and it is 19 so would be very unreasonable for me to put the heating on! It was 15 in the bathroom this morning but warmed up once the sun came on it, using heating for that would have been a waste.

0palescent · 22/10/2021 11:11

I had to scrape my car yesterday morning, the heating has been on for a few weeks now.

ThePoliceOfficer · 22/10/2021 11:15

I dunno what my problem is and why I’m being so indecisive. I guess it’s because I'm on maternity so will want it on whenever we’re home and not just in the morning/evenings. Could get costly!

I never understand these threads. If you're cold put it on, or put an extra jumper on. Why on Earth does it matter what random strangers are doing 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I've been there. I'm not saying don't turn it on, but maybe look at ways to make sure your house is properly insulated too. We didn't have curtains for a while after we moved into this house and I found that when we did, they made a huge difference. (we had blinds before, we weren't at the' we need to tape some towels over the windows' stage)

Cavity wall insulation, no gaps around windows, properly fitting patio doors (I'm looking at you, fucking idiotic previous owners of our house), loft insulation etc. It'll all help to keep in the heat so stays warmer for longer too.

skintasabint · 22/10/2021 11:23

I've put mine on this week but I'll be turning it off. I'm all electric though, no gas in my street and I'm on a meter

To put the heating on
GrolliffetheDragon · 22/10/2021 11:23

Not yet, coldest the house has been is 18. I don't put the heating on unless it goes below 17. Up until then, it's put a jumper on.

And I feel the cold, but the way gas prices have gone I'm praying for a mild winter.

TuftyMarmoset · 22/10/2021 11:26

I agree @Mamamamasaurus. From really simple things like we have a really draughty front door and would need to put the heating on sooner if we didn’t use a draught excluder, to bigger things like we replaced our bedroom carpet last year and this one is thicker. It all helps. We also got thermal lining for the curtains from Dunelm.

Some good suggestions there! I forgot the draft excluder, we have one shaped like a daschund!

I always like a warm house, but after our provider went bust, We haven't been given our new direct debit anount yet. Some peoples have doubled. I highly recommend the plug in oil filled radiators if you're just mainly in one room.

Peanutsandchilli · 22/10/2021 11:35

I was shivering in bed last night. Our heating is set to come on at about 16 degrees and it's come on for an hour or so every morning this week. My car said it was 3 degrees when I took the kids to school yesterday.

EdgeOfTheSky · 22/10/2021 11:38

It’s difficult because many of the times we are at home all day are the times when we are most short of money.

Maternity leave, redundancy, out of work etc.

It costs a LOT to heat from getting up to going to bed 7 days a week.

That’s why people don’t ‘just’ put the heating on, and seek re-assurance over whether they are being unreasonably extravagant or wasteful.

UnitedRoad · 22/10/2021 11:39

I’ve literally just put mine on, as I’m really cold. We’ve had it on a few evenings already this month but I feel guilty having it on just for me during the day. I work from home but I only like to work in a tshirt as sleeves get in my way.

Gonnagetgoing · 22/10/2021 11:40

My heating has been on first thing since start September as it's a small Victorian cottage but freezing (despite loft being lagged etc). But it goes off at some point during the day and comes back on again later.

KingsleyShacklebolt · 22/10/2021 11:40

Put the heating on.

Don't put the heating on.

Why do you think anyone would give two hoots whether you have your heating on or not? Personally, I think setting the heating by your calendar and not the outside temperature is lunacy.

UnitedRoad · 22/10/2021 11:41

A t-shirt on my top half, but fully dressed below. I promise I’m not working from home naked below the waist 😂
