To put the heating on

Nothing too dramatic over here 😂 just curious if anyone has put their heating on yet. Dunno why I’m seeking ‘approval’! We are all wearing jumpers but still cold!

We’ve had it on quite a lot over the last few weeks. We’re both at home all day and I hate to be cold. And the dogs love it. 😂

Blimey - our heating is firmly off overnight! Love a cold bedroom and lot of covers - still have the window open a crack. We get up at 6.30 am most days and the heating is turned on to 18c by the first person up and about- clicked on at 12c this morning so was pretty cold but soon warmed up. It's a luxury these days and I feel for anyone scared to use their heating - check out your local council website there are some grants coming up for people on low incomes as well as the 'warm homes' discounts provided by energy companies.

I find these threads fascinating like the showering ones ( I know 🤣 ) .
Human behaviour is strange .It's like who is gonna give in , the hardy M N ' trs or the weather .
No we have not put the heating on . I did grow up in a really cold house ice on the bedroom windows and all that . But I will put a cardi on before the heating goes on .

All electric house in the south and have only put on heating for visitors so far. 12.5 was lowest so far and I could see my breath but I have a fleecy gilet that stopped me actually feeling cold. Thermostat comes on when the house falls below 11 but I like a cold bedroom at night with a heated blanket and thick duvet so I turn it off overnight in winter anyway and switch it on for getting out of bed only.

Log burner does the rest.

Siameasy · 23/10/2021 00:47

No and I will hold off until it’s unbearable but we are in a new build.
I grew up in a Victorian conversion. Freezing, no central heating just one of those blowers, could see breath indoors on winter mornings , “the pilot lights gone out again!” etc

I don’t think our house has ever been that cold, I really. wouldn’t be able to cope in that. I think the coldest out house was was 16 and that’s when the heating broke! I do like to be warm though.

GTAlogic · 23/10/2021 01:05

Ours came on a few nights ago. We had to turn it up a bit to get some clothes dry. We've turned it back down again now because jumpers and blankets are enough at the moment.

Meggie2008 · 23/10/2021 09:13

Not properly on as in daily use as it hasn't been particularly cold here for the most part. I did have it on for half an hour the other morning when I was getting ready for work but it was 3 degrees outside so I feel that that was justified.
I think my thinking is flawed by the fact that I'm in an upstairs flat and my downstairs neighbours have theirs on regularly so it heats mine up too 😂

myusernamewastakenbyme · 23/10/2021 09:34

Im in a Victorian terrace and it seems to be a warm house so ive not felt the need to put heating on yet...my last house was always so cold the heating would have been on by end of Sept.

Tumbleweed101 · 23/10/2021 09:42

Mine has been on a few times in morning and evening lately but I make sure it is turned down in day to 15C if we are out and overnight. That way it only comes on if it gets really cold. 15C is ok to get up to without it being hot overnight.

TroysMammy · 23/10/2021 09:47

My DP put the heating on last night but even though we had hot water the radiators didn't heat up. It's a back boiler and the pilot light is firing and the heating pump in the airing cupboard was warm so I'm going to have to have a fiddle later on. If no joy will have to contact a gas heating person!

I bought a heated throw so will have to snuggle under that until then.

LovingBob · 23/10/2021 09:49

Ours has been on for a few weeks now, we went away for a week mid October and switched it off and house was 14.5C when I looked at the Hive app, so not very warm

TheUnbearable · 23/10/2021 09:55

We have the thermostat set to 19 between 8am to 8pm and then it’s on a frost setting for overnight. Heating has put itself on twice this week.

TheWinterSmoulder · 23/10/2021 10:04

On for a week or so on the timer for an hour morning and evening. I’ve a couple of plug in oil radiators, been using one in the spare room where I wfh rather than heat the whole house all day. Had the fire on in the living room one evening so back to pulling curtains over patio doors, closing all internal doors, using throws and jumpers and try to keep the heat in better. Draft excluder at front and patio doors does help, mine are a spaniel and a big blue brocade log! We get lazier when it’s warmer as the flat is insulated with only a few cold spots.

User527294627 · 23/10/2021 10:05

Ours has been on for a couple of weeks. My baby’s room was getting down to 13 / 14 degrees overnight and I thought that was a bit parky!

TroysMammy · 23/10/2021 16:30

Hurrah! After my fiddling, checking there were no air locks and gently tapping the heating pump my radiators are working. I reckon being menopausal I'll be switching them off in a couple of hours as it will be too hot.
