Mid 30s just wondering if I should get the flu jab this year? Wouldn’t normally consider it but keeping hearing how as many people as possible need to get it.

I'm 34 and have had mine already through work. I've been getting it for years. I have 2 small children and it would be a nightmare if I got the flu. DH gets his through the nhs as he has asthma.

Bouledeneige · 20/10/2021 21:31

I've had it free on the NHS because I'm over 55. No side effects. I've had it for a couple of years though. But you're probably not asking someone my age.

gamerchick · 20/10/2021 21:33

Yeah, get it every year. That one time praying for death is great motivation.

drury7thedition · 20/10/2021 21:33

Yes, I always have it as I’m asthmatic. Went to collect a prescription yesterday and they gave it to me at the same time, I hadn’t booked.

BIWI · 20/10/2021 21:34

Yes definitely. (Although I'm over 60, so more reason for me to do it). But the fear is that this winter is going to be horrible with many more cases of flu, and if you get flu and Covid, it's very dangerous. So yes - definitely get the jab.

shangelawasrobbed · 20/10/2021 21:34

I've already had mine. I'm 27 weeks pregnant and don't want to risk getting flu in my third trimester.

DramaAlpaca · 20/10/2021 21:35

Yes. I'm in my 50s and am getting mine on Saturday.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/10/2021 21:35

Yes I have it every year.

Zeev · 20/10/2021 21:35

Already had mine.

TacoTues · 20/10/2021 21:35

Yes already had it. DH has too.

MaudebeGonne · 20/10/2021 21:36

Yup, I've had mine through work. I always get it anyway, bit especially this year as a had Covid over the Summer and don't feel as if my immune system has fully recovered yet. No side effects at all.

CatherineCawood · 20/10/2021 21:37

I got it, then 10 days later caught flu and ended up in hospital Confused I get it every year and it has never let me down before!

FindingMeno · 20/10/2021 21:37

Had mine because I'm asthmatic.
I currently have covid though Sad

Cornishbelle · 20/10/2021 21:37

First time having it (apart from when pregnant) this year. Made sense to pay for it and feel grateful I can afford to as don't qualify for it on nhs. There will be so much in the way of cold and fly this year I think it definitely makes sense if you're able to.

Cornishbelle · 20/10/2021 21:38

*flu even!

DrunkenKoala · 20/10/2021 21:41

Had mine. I’m now mid 40s but have been getting it for last 10 yrs. As pp says it isn’t great having flu and having to look after young children. DP booked his last week and will be getting it next week with Boots, they had loads of appointments left.

whatswithtodaytoday · 20/10/2021 21:44

Mine's next week. I have a young child so having flu while trying to look after them would be hell, and I definitely don't want to get Covid and flu together.

gah2teenagers · 20/10/2021 21:44

Yes. Had it last week. Had it at Xmas once. ‘‘Twas awful.

Dollywilde · 20/10/2021 21:44

Yes. I had proper flu for a week in 2013 and all I remember is feeling like I was dying in the few moments I was fully conscious. Utterly horrid.

I have private medical with work now, and get it yearly through that. They seem to be struggling to source it this year but I get one on the NHS anyway (pregnant) so it’s not a problem. Had one during my last pregnancy in Nov 2019 so no concerns about it.

weegiemum · 20/10/2021 21:45

Yes, I'm 50 this year so will get it.

HarryHedgehog · 20/10/2021 21:45

I had it last week. I have it most years and I’m 40.
Can’t be arsed with getting the flu so I’d rather have the vaccine.

Rememberallball · 20/10/2021 21:47

No; I’m entitled due to health conditions but haven’t had one for the last 13 years. I have also declined the invitation for toddler twins to have it as I don’t agree it’s necessary for them to have it.

Flufferty · 20/10/2021 21:47

Yes, had mine a couple of weeks ago

generalh · 20/10/2021 21:48

Yes

Abraxan · 20/10/2021 21:49

I've already had it. Due to a health condition and medication my immunity is compromised so I am offered it for free. I always have it.

We always pay for one for our 19y, as her request. She got flu once over her mock exams and was paranoid she'd be ill like it in the run up,to her GCSEs so tries to reduce the risk.

For the first time dh is getting one too. His work is paying to offer it to any staff who would like it. He's due to get it in a couple of week's time.
