To find evenings so boring

Poppets14 · 20/10/2021 21:14

What do you do on an evening?
We have dinner, one of us puts dd to bed while the other clears up.
Then my husband puts some rubbish on the TV - I might read or look at my phone.
I sometimes end up going to bed about 8:30 just because I’m so so bored.

What do you all do on an evening?

Drink.

I recommend it.

GoodnightGrandma · 20/10/2021 21:16

It’s such a waste of life isn’t it ?
I do an exercise class one evening a week, but that’s it.
Have tea, have a shower and look forward to bed time.

TurnUpTurnip · 20/10/2021 21:17

I’m on my own with my kids so once they are in bed I just sit there on my own mainly on my phone browsing

garlictwist · 20/10/2021 21:17

Ha ha, sitting on MN because I am so bored. It's dark, there's nothing to do and I can't even be arsed to watch TV. It's worse now I'm wfh as I feel like I have been in the house all day, even though I have been for a run and walked to the shops. I don't even have kids so should be out on the tiles, I suppose. But with who? Where?

MusingOnStarlight · 20/10/2021 21:17

Read, craft, play stupid games on my phone. It’s boring

Doublechins · 20/10/2021 21:18

Uni work, watch TV and mess on my phone

Hoolihan · 20/10/2021 21:20

I find it boring too, I can't stand watching TV for the sake of it. I usually shower, faff about with hair/face, read, look at my phone.

Dishwashersaurous · 20/10/2021 21:21

We both work.

SantasLittleHoHoHo · 20/10/2021 21:22

Make tea, tidy the house whilst it cooks, talk to DP about our days, eat tea together, tidy away tea, go on an evening walk (unless horrendous weather!), Rock Paper Scissors for who gets to pick a tv show or film, watch said show, feed cats then books in bed! I love my evenings! The routines make it all so calming 😊

FangsForTheMemory · 20/10/2021 21:22

In summer I might go out for a walk, but I'm with you on this, OP. Winter evenings are long and dull.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 20/10/2021 21:24

This evening I’ve had a lovely wide ranging conversation with Dd, and listened to her play the cello. Was lovely!

Younger Ds is usually here, so more bed time routine type stuff to go through.

When everyone else is asleep I do watch crap in telly.

Poppets14 · 20/10/2021 21:24

I don’t mind TV if there’s something worth watching but my husband always moans at the stuff I watch so it’s easier to let him put what he likes on.
It makes me feel a bit down not knowing what to do- my mum says only boring people get bored 😳
I don’t enjoy exercise

I’m thinking of turning the dining room into my own lounge so I can watch what I want. I hate it that I own half the house, go out to work, and yet I can’t watch whatever I want when football is on.

Avarua · 20/10/2021 21:27

My eldest doesn't go to bed till around nine now Sad so I never get to watch what I want to watch. We try and find neutral tv ground like Bake Off or Dog Rescue type shows.
Sometimes meet up with a friend at the local pub for a drink.

GoodnightGrandma · 20/10/2021 21:32

I started doing my family tree but I found that I was waking up in the night with it churning in my head. So I stopped that.

Finknottlesnewt · 20/10/2021 21:32

I signed up for the Open University.. so doing a law degree.. I'm 57 so won't be a lawyer but might be able to help a charity out when qualified.. beats pointless telly any day .

onemouseplace · 20/10/2021 21:33

I've been so bored this evening I've gone past the point of being bothered to pick something to put on the tv. I fancied a glass of wine earlier, which I decided against as I feel a bit coldy, but that would have made the evening pass a bit quicker. I'm too bloody bored to even pick my book up.

scarpa · 20/10/2021 21:36

I do loads of free courses online. Read. Freelance work. Podcasts. Play games. Talk nonsense with DH. Go to the cinema by myself (my favourite).

ShaneTheThird · 20/10/2021 21:36

Presumably after work and putting the kids to bed it's your free leisure time why aren't you doing something you enjoy?

There's loads of things you can do in an evening. Watch tv, craft, knit, browse the internet, do exercise, take up a hobby, read, chat to people online. Just do what you enjoy otherwise your wasting your life.

Being bored is such a teenage concept to me. As an adult you can literally do whatever you want so there's no need to be bored. Find something to do.

BeyondMyWits · 20/10/2021 21:37

I have tv on sometimes, tonight in a nutshell....a very smug Alexander Armstrong in Iceland at the moment... am surfing the net, mumsnetting, whatsapping the kids at uni, messaging my sister, looking at holidays and wondering why I'm bothering, also doing my online Tesco food shop.

After a blooming lovely tea (fish with potato rosti and roasted baby plum tomatoes) I did some knitting... I'm learning and doing a blanket in really thick wool on big needles, so it is growing quickly and curbing my impatience. In an hour or so I will read a Bill Bryson before bed for half an hour to relax. Am also chatting with dh about our day (and about how smug Alexander Armstrong is) and taking pics of the dog to put on the family whatsapp as the girls miss him.

Sometimes we play scrabble, or cards, sometimes bowling on the wii, or we'll watch a film. We generally bumble along companionable most nights. It's nice.

Mary46 · 20/10/2021 21:37

lljkk · 20/10/2021 21:38

life admin
bank accounts, kids, pets, cleaning, tidying, setting reminders, planning holiday... there's always stuff that needs doing

Sadiequeenofscots · 20/10/2021 21:38

I often have a bath.

If I don’t DH generally watch something together on TV and snuggle on the couch. I like evenings.

Really I should tidy the kitchen / load the dishwasher etc. But can’t really be arsed once DC are in bed. My DC are a bit older though and I’m rarely back downstairs before 9pm.

Snowdropsandbluebells · 20/10/2021 21:39

We are fairly tired after long days of teaching and children but we love netflix
Just enjoying and netflix & munsnet

Tonight we went shopping together. Last night I had a treatment at local salon that opens late.

HotSauceCommittee · 20/10/2021 21:39

I read and I have a couple of glasses of wine. Mess about online.
Full on job, so bored when I am tired of an evening is good for me mostly.
