To think that wine has loads of benefits ?

I was just thinking ... I see lots of benefits to wine but am I on my own?
My skin looks good. It puts me on good form. It relaxes me. Anyone? I only hear negatives

Wine nice lunch? Wink

Tal45 · 20/10/2021 15:51

Can you not have those things without wine? Personally I don't like it much and I grew out of the stage where I drank so I could relax enough to be on good form for other people so.....

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 20/10/2021 15:51

That's all an absolute myth.

And you tell yourself that to make yourself feel ok about drinking.

It has absolutely no benefits whatsoever.

merryhouse · 20/10/2021 15:51

"Honestly, I sing better when I've had a drink"

No, you really don't. You just think you do.

SickAndTiredAgain · 20/10/2021 15:54

If your skin looks good, that’s not a benefit of wine. Your skin looks good in spite of the wine.

Isababybel · 20/10/2021 15:54

It's relaxing whilst you are drinking it but it has no real benefits!
It is not good for the skin, it is dehydrating.
I am not part of the mumsnet anti alcohol brigade, i enjoy wine on a Friday night but i do not pretend it is good for me WineWine

Comedycook · 20/10/2021 15:58

I don't believe it makes your skin look better. You already have good skin or you've had so much wine, you think it looks amazing when you look in the mirror Grin

ComDummings · 20/10/2021 16:01

I’ve never heard of it making skin look good. You must just have nice skin anyway!

isthismylifenow · 20/10/2021 16:03

The only benefit for me is Dutch courage

AutumnLeafy · 20/10/2021 16:04

Wine makes my skin look shit

Lavender24 · 20/10/2021 16:05

Wine makes my skin look like shit and gives me horrendous heartburn. But if you enjoy it then genuinely good for you Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/10/2021 16:06

Skin looks good now but for how long? Menopause takes 30% of collagen then 2% a year thereafter.

You need to go into menopause with lots of collagen.

Ostryga · 20/10/2021 16:06

I’m way better at pool when I’ve had a glass of wine. Think I’m confidant enough to just go for the shot or something.

Apart from that… no Grin

SpindelWhorl · 20/10/2021 16:07

I read that a modest amount of red wine provides phenols which are supposed to be beneficial.

FreyaFromTheFens · 20/10/2021 16:07

I agree, I absolutely love red wine and drink it every evening. It never stops me from getting up early every day for a long dog walk and I have a very demanding job which i'm great at! Grin

I look good for my age and have loads of energy.

It's full of antioxidants and boosts the immune system, well that's my view i'm sure lots of people will disagree but if i'm destined for an early grave then i'm going to enjoy my shiraz first!

FreyaFromTheFens · 20/10/2021 16:08

Shiraz! Wine

Eilatan2018 · 20/10/2021 16:08

Hahahaha sorry but this is hilarious! Trying to justify drinking wine! I admittedly like a drink to relax or to be more outgoing but it has so many negative effects on me I’ve had to stop entirely! Palpitations, headache, bad skin, dehydration… I could go on!

SapphosRock · 20/10/2021 16:08

A chat with a friend over a bottle of wine vs a chat with a friend over a coffee. Both lovely but the first chat is likely to be more interesting.

I get you OP Wine

mytransit · 20/10/2021 16:09

Oh I get temporarily good at pool too!
Am in meno and on hrt so that might explain the skin thing.
Wine just adds to my life and is a particular stress reliever for me.
Fortunately I don't get a hangover from it but that is possibly because I stick to the one type/ brand.

That's not true. There are proven health benefits. (Not better skin, though, I don't think!)
Chikapu · 20/10/2021 16:09

Are you trying to justify drinking too much by lying to yourself maybe?

TheKeatingFive · 20/10/2021 16:09

Totally here ya OP.

It's not a conversation for MN though!

No justification or lying... I just really enjoy it and it brings joy to my life!
Oh and I sleep like a log after it.

Oh I like wine. I just think that saying it gives you good skin is pushing it a bit. I also don’t really need wine to have benefits, I drink it in moderation because I like the taste. Just like any food or drink that isn’t particularly healthy, I have it in moderation because I like it. I don’t see why it needs justifying with some slightly unlikely benefits.
