I was just thinking ... I see lots of benefits to wine but am I on my own?
My skin looks good. It puts me on good form. It relaxes me. Anyone? I only hear negatives

Like breast cancer? Don’t fool yourself, wine is not good for your health.

oneglassandpuzzled · 20/10/2021 16:36

I think most of the benefits have been disproved. People who seem to drink it regularly and are very healthy are probably eating a very good diet and keeping active. Like the famed Mediterranean oldies. And they’re drinking 125ml a day, not two large glasses. 125ml is smaller than most drinkers realise.

Classica · 20/10/2021 16:37

The benefit for me is that I like it.

AliceinBorderland · 20/10/2021 16:38

I don't like the taste.
It gives me the worst hangovers imaginable.
Vile stuff I never drink it.

CounsellorTroi · 20/10/2021 16:40

I love wine but it makes me put on weight if I drink too much.

480Widdio · 20/10/2021 16:41

For me it had many benefits when I started drinking it,fast forward a few years and I was a fully blown, low bottom drunk.

So no no benefits for me,not touched it for over 18yers now and my life is amazing now.

DinosApple · 20/10/2021 16:42

I'd swear my eye sight improves enough to ditch the glasses when I've had a drink Grin.

politics4me · 20/10/2021 16:44

I enjoy wine and beer. I enjoy the flavours and can distinguish between some of them.
I do not enjoy being drunk or losing control.
Hangovers get fearsomely bad when you get old. So drink at lunchtime not at night. Which is nice when you retire.

CoRhona · 20/10/2021 16:47

@Ostryga

I’m way better at pool when I’ve had a glass of wine. Think I’m confidant enough to just go for the shot or something.

Apart from that… no Grin

This!! Grin
Chikapu · 20/10/2021 16:52

It brings joy and adds to your life, in what way exactly?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/10/2021 17:07

The empty bottles, when converted into table lamps, can make inexpensive and tasteless gifts for people that you don't like much but feel obliged to buy a present for.

cricketmum84 · 20/10/2021 17:09

Pain relief 😂

HeadNorth · 20/10/2021 17:35

I like a glass of wine or beer - it tastes nice and makes me feel more mellow and like I am taking a step back from my daily responsibilities. I don't kid myself it has medical benefits, but lots of things I enjoy don't (hello cake Grin)

Fortunately I also enjoy healthy things like running, hillwalking, yoga and eating vegetables, so it all balances out, I think.

mytransit · 20/10/2021 17:58

It relaxes me,immediately changes my
Mood to better regardless of what it is, allows me to destress after a heavy day.
That's kind of it really. Lots of positives for me.

I love a really good glass of wine as well. I feel great on it.

Northernsoullover · 20/10/2021 18:13

Do people not realise that the health benefits of wine (grapes) are negated by the alcohol. Its a known carcinogen. Eat blueberries. Much better for you. There really are no health benefits to wine or any alcohol. If you enjoy it then fair enough but stop trying to justify an unhealthy drink.

Userguaranteed · 20/10/2021 18:16

Nah. Skin looks good, relaxed...and all that, despite not drinking.

But if thinking it makes you feel better, why not.

Woeismethischristmas · 20/10/2021 18:16

I like wine stopped drinking nearly two months ago though and I look so much better. Less puffy, much better skin and I’ve lost 5kg. Wine is the gateway to lots of cheese/ snacks. I do love it but may save it for special occasions.

NoNotHimTheOtherOne · 20/10/2021 18:17

Absolute bollocks. There are proven benefits of drinking small amounts of alcohol and that factor regularly features in longevity studies.

Care to cite some? The only ones I can find are specifically about the effect on longevity of drinking moderate amounts of alcohol in your sixties [Keyes et al., 2019; van den Brandt & Brandts, 2020]. The arguments for health benefits are predominantly based on demonstration of in vitro (i.e. in a test-tube) antioxidant or other actions of substances like polyphenols at concentrations that cannot possibly be achieved in the body by drinking wine [Visioli et al., 2020].

A large-scale global study published in 2018 concluded that "The level of alcohol consumption that minimised harm across health outcomes was zero (95% UI 0·0–0·8) standard drinks per week" [Griswold et al., 2018].

The health benefits of wine are FAR from proven. The amounts of antioxidants and other good molecules in wine are so relatively small you'd have to drink gallons of the stuff for it to have the desired effect. Studies of drinking and longevity are always skewed by the fact teetotallers are often so because they otherwise have bad health. I love wine, I drink lots of it, but it is a poison and your body treats it as such.

DrManhattan · 20/10/2021 19:34

It's ethanol- the same stuff you put in your car

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 20/10/2021 19:42

Wow tough crowd tonight.

I find drinking a glass of wine fabulous for not giving a fuck about anything 🤭

EarringsandLipstick · 20/10/2021 19:42

Some of the comments here are brilliant 😂

Like this:

"Honestly, I sing better when I've had a drink"

No, you really don't. You just think you do

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/10/2021 19:44

Is it? With winter approaching, I put a snow shovel, a couple of (tartan) blankets, a flask of hot, sweet tea and an emergency flashing beacon in our car. Am I missing something? Confused
