To think that wine has loads of benefits ?

I was just thinking ... I see lots of benefits to wine but am I on my own?
My skin looks good. It puts me on good form. It relaxes me. Anyone? I only hear negatives

I never drank much at all. I've always enjoyed a glass of red wine though

Literally the minute I turned 40 I couldn't tolerate it. Even a small amount makes me feel desperate, even while drinking it, and absolutely the next day.

Periodically, I try it, a different wine, different time of the day. Nope

I think that if I'm in company & it's really good wine, it seems to be ok but still only about a glass.

I'm a single parent & mostly drinking alone, if I did have wine, so can't afford a very expensive wine & would end up throwing most of it out.

So I have mourned the loss of my wine & the very occasional time it feels 'worth' it, I'll indulge maybe.

As for benefits, health - no; but as something to enjoy & appreciate, I think that is a form of a benefit.

@DrManhattan

It's ethanol- the same stuff you put in your car
Arguments like this are stupid. I put windscreen washer, which contains water, in my car. Should I avoid water too?

OP, if it adds to your life then crack on. Much like cake and trash TV I think a little bit of 'bad' can have a net positive effect.

Currently pregnant and can't wait until I can have a fat glass of pouilly fumée on a hot summers afternoon.

Air. Air goes in cars.

Avoid air.

Wine got me through the first lockdown! Well, not on its own and not an excessive amount, but a glass of wine a week (or a bottle of beer), definitely helped me through.

And it doesn't seemed to have done any harm as I'm now back to my pre-pandemic more like once a fortnight or once a month level of drinking.

Oh I get temporarily good at pool too! Am in meno and on hrt so that might explain the skin thing. Wine just adds to my life and is a particular stress reliever for me. Fortunately I don't get a hangover from it but that is possibly because I stick to the one type/ brand.
What is this mythical brand that you speak of
mytransit · 20/10/2021 20:11

Torres. Vino Sol ala Coleen Rooney Grin

Oh good, because at £1.40 a litre petrol is significantly cheaper than the rather nice Pinot Noir I picked up in Waitrose.

Loving these missing the point comments. Funny.

Booboosweet · 20/10/2021 21:24

I agree OP. All the health bores can jog on.

Actually that's what is known as 'narrowing of the repertoire' and is a symptom of alcohol dependence.

Another sign [or alcohol dependence] is a narrowing of repertoire, where you get particular about having the same brand of wine, in the same glass, sitting in the same chair, at the same time every day. An element of routine may silently emerge, and this might indicate a low level of increasing alcohol misuse or even dependence. This sort of deliberate regimen might mask the problem drinking by giving it the illusion of self-control, when in fact, conversely, the alcohol may be in control

I drink wine whilst sorting out the dinner and bedrooms on the weekends. Literally makes the jobs far more enjoyable!

Wine doesn't make you enjoy the task.

Wine numbs the boredom and mundaneness of the task.

The denial is real with this one...

Idony · 21/10/2021 09:09

Wine drinker skin is haggard and red. "Benefits", lol.

jetadore · 21/10/2021 09:20

I enjoy wine but I think any benefits are outweighed by the fact that one of its main ingredients is a toxin.

No. It makes it more enjoyable. Geez you're a glass half empty person right?

JaceLancs · 21/10/2021 22:54

I gave up wine a few years ago when I started dieting and really don’t miss it - I didn’t notice any deterioration in my health or skin etc either
I swapped to spirits and diet mixers and lost weight which impacted beneficially on other areas of life
I regressed a little due to lockdown boredom and misery but am now back on allowing myself 1 drinking alcohol day a week and am feeling the benefits
