6 year old loves watching Bluey!

Dd is 6 and has recently loved watching a programme called Bluey in Disney plus. But she says that her friends say it's for younger children and they don't watch it and make her feel about it.

Maybe it is aimed at pre schoolers but aibu to think 6 year olds are good to watch too?

It's great that your DD knows what she likes. Tell her the important thing is that she enjoys it and nothing else matters.

There was a similar thread about Paw Patrol the other day. The overall consensus was that children should be able to enjoy and grow out of things at their own pace. And that parents with kids who like to tease their classmates and call things "babyish" should strongly discourage such unattractive and obnoxious behaviour.

@Kb2942 Then you have totally failed as a parent! :) :)

We still sing the song between the Moon and Bear when it's time for bed.

When I say "we" I do of course mean me! :)

DockOTheBay · 17/10/2021 19:15

Our school sent this out too, but I reckon kids are just HEARING about squid game as it's on the front page of Netflix and all of tiktok

It's not on the front page of kids Netflix. And 6 year olds didn't be using tiktok.

DockOTheBay · 17/10/2021 19:17

*shouldn't

lavenderlemon · 17/10/2021 19:39

I love bluey, nevermind my 4 yo 😂
Tell your child to watch whatever makes her happy. Everyone likes different things.

My 8 year old still talks about Peppa pig, I don't think he's watched it for a while though. His friend in school told him it was for babies. I just told him to tell him he can watch what he likes and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks! I think it's weird that his friends are having £500 games consoles at 8 years old but there we are lol

ShepherdMoons · 17/10/2021 20:11

My dd watches Bluey, she's 8 and also very much a die hard fan of PJ Masks. I think it's great she enjoys these programmes and isn't on Fortnite or GTA like some of her Year 3 class!

Ds6 loves Bluey, he watches with dd5, dd4 and Ds2. I like Bluey too, I find it funny. Shaun the Sheep is another we all love to watch. I still love Hey Duggee too!

therarebear · 17/10/2021 23:27

Bluey is one of the best kids shows out there. My 8 year old, my husband and I all bloody love it.

TurquoiseDress · 18/10/2021 00:27

I bloody love Bluey and I'm the other side of 40!

TurnUpTurnip · 18/10/2021 01:21

Does it matter? Some kids are going to think it’s for younger children and they are entitled to their opinion. I do think it’s weird that adults are claiming they sit and watch it on their own, very odd.

My almost 6 year old wants a bluey party in Jan.
He said that when they win golden time at school, his classmates all vote to watch Bluey 🙂

Rubyupbeat · 18/10/2021 08:26

Aww...bless her.
My niece used to love Woolly and Tig, and when she wasn't staying with me, I used to watch it, I thought it was the sweetest thing.

We’ve never got into Bluey particularly but my 7yo loves Octonauts, Paw Patrol and Hey Duggee.

Squid Game doesn’t seem to have infiltrated our school playground (yet) but last year they were all playing a playground game based on Among Us. I know DS’s friends have never actually played Among Us. I suspect it’s the same with Squid Game that a small number have seen it but it translates easily to a more innocent playground game that is widely adopted.

My DH and I are both 41, and we love Bluey! Lucky's Dad might be my favourite character...He low-key steals the show every time he briefly appears Grin
My DD6 loves it too, although she's recently been swayed back to Paw Patrol, just when I though we were free of it!

desperatelyseekingcaffeine · 18/10/2021 08:53

My 5 year old had a Bluey party - young in her year but all the other almost 6 year olds loved it. We were introduced to it by my son's 8 year old friend. I find the 8/9 year olds won't ask for it and pretend they've grown out of it but then sit watching and laughing their heads off at it. Mine at 8 and 5 play loads of the games from it too.

Ozgirl75 · 18/10/2021 09:09

We often watch Bluey as a family and my kids are 9 and 11! It’s hilarious and they watch it and then point at their dad and say “that’s what you would say”.
My 11 year old is very chill about telling people what he likes. I overheard him the other day telling a friend about some shark and said he learnt it from the Octonaughts. It’s nice when they get a bit older and are happy to know their own minds. My 9 year old is still in the “peer pressure” stage of “oh that’s babyish” which I find tedious beyond belief. Like what you like!

I wouldn’t worry too much about Among Us. I was a bit concerned at first, but it’s very fun and we play as a family. It’s basically cluedo but more fun. Yes you do get murdered in violent ways but it’s more like road runner cartoon violence. In general it’s a really enjoyable game.
hangrylady · 18/10/2021 09:15

When my 9 and 11 year old were being silly arguing about what to watch on TV I once said "Your acting like 2 year olds so why don't you watch Peppa Pig". They called my bluff and it was great, both laughed their heads off at it! I miss PeppaGrin

TitoMojito · 18/10/2021 09:27

I'm in my late 20s and I still get a kick out of LazyTown. Tell DD she can watch whatever she likes. If her friends are being mean about it, just don’t mention the programme to them again.

Everylittlehelpsalittle · 18/10/2021 09:53

@BlameItOnTheBlackStar

Who cares? Sometimes my 9 year old likes to sneak a few episodes of Peppa.
Lmao sometimes I like to sneak a few episodes of peppa!
TheSpanishApartment · 18/10/2021 10:13

My 6yo loves it too. It's perfect for them. I don't understand the rush to grow up in some families. A lot of them watch stuff that is (in my opinion) way too old for them.

PeeAche · 18/10/2021 10:29

Bluey is hilarious. My DH and I watch it with a 9 and 7 year old and it makes us laugh too. Long live Bluey.

GlmPmum · 18/10/2021 10:37

I bloody love Bluey myself, lots of hidden adult jokes in there!
