6 year old loves watching Bluey!

Dd is 6 and has recently loved watching a programme called Bluey in Disney plus. But she says that her friends say it's for younger children and they don't watch it and make her feel about it.

Maybe it is aimed at pre schoolers but aibu to think 6 year olds are good to watch too?

DD only discovered it this year and she's 6. I love it. Thank god she's over Bing fucking bunny and Peppa Pig.

TenThousandSpoons · 17/10/2021 13:47

I’ve heard lots of adults say they love bluey - it wasn’t around when mine were younger so I haven’t seen it. My DS rewatched a lot of Peppa Pig during lockdown when he was 8-9 and was laughing at the jokes that would have gone over his head as a toddler. These programmes often have another layer for the older viewers to enjoy. Well it’s good if they do. Paw Patrol for example doesn’t and I can’t bear it.

ballsdeep · 17/10/2021 13:48

You're always going to get the extremes, 8 year olds who love watching Peppa and those who love watching squid games. Just watch what you like and sod anyone else

HeyFloof · 17/10/2021 14:44

Bluey is brilliant, I'll always watch Bluey.

Peppa though, absolutely not, it's barred at chez floof, as my 4yo would say "Peppa does your head in, doesn't she Mummy?"

Livpool · 17/10/2021 14:47

My DS is 6 and has just rediscovered Bluey. I don't see the problem to be honest

Newmummytoakitten · 17/10/2021 14:47

Our favourite episode is the takeaway one...

The comments between the parents for the parents are brilliant.

I still love Disney princess films.... I dont think programmes aimed at children have an upper age restriction.

firstimemamma · 17/10/2021 14:52

My 3 year old loves it. So do i and I'm 31!

Smileyaxolotl1 · 17/10/2021 14:54

I would suggest the children telling her it’s babyish are probably very immature. It’s very multi layered.

IWantT0BreakFree · 17/10/2021 14:54

Well the school I work at (not the one my kids attend, I must add!) have just had to put out a message to parents reminding them that Squid Game is not a suitable series for primary aged children to be watching 🤦🏼‍♀️ So I really wouldn’t give two hoots whether your child’s watching habits are in line with her peers.

Bluey is a great show. It's age appropriate for your DD and it's a quality program.

This is a good teaching moment about resisting peer pressure and doing what makes you happy regardless of what others think.

ItsAlwaysThere · 17/10/2021 14:58

What a lot of nonsense. Tell her that this 40 year old loves Bluey!

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 17/10/2021 15:00

My 5 year old DS loves Bluey. As does my 15 year old DD 🤣

MuddlingThrough1724 · 17/10/2021 15:00

If she's too old for it, then I'm in trouble as I'm 37! Bloody love Bluey!

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 17/10/2021 15:00

6 year old DD likes it….. so do me and DH.

Our school sent this out too, but I reckon kids are just HEARING about squid game as it's on the front page of Netflix and all of tiktok.
shouldistop · 17/10/2021 15:04

My 5yo absolutely loves bluey

VaguelyInteresting · 17/10/2021 15:06

My DS is 5. I’m 34. We both lovvvvvve Bluey.

Like Sarah and Duck, it’s one of those lovely shows which marries whimsy with relatable “child” characters and storylines, and the kind of parenting (or voice of a patent in Sarah’s case) that gives you tonnes of ideas/inspiration without making you feel like shit.

And crucially nobody’s voice grates on me. That is the most important.

VaguelyInteresting · 17/10/2021 15:07

@WeAreTheWeirdosMister

No no. There are threads on here that make it very clear that children are watching it.

Utterly horrifying.

holidaynearlyover · 17/10/2021 15:09

I find that at around the age of 6 my daughter's friends all went grown up and only liked older stuff (well that's what they pretended) then around the age of 11 they start loving saying they are watching baby programmes again and get all nostalgic 🙄

Tal45 · 17/10/2021 15:09

It's pretty tragic that the race to be more grown up starts so young.

BelieveInRainbows · 17/10/2021 15:15

Your DD's friends are probably watching things that are aimed at children a lot older than them and that's why they see Bluey as kid stuff. But, it's totally age appropriate and it's such a fab show! My 6 year old DS loves it. I think he actually enjoys it more than his 3 year old brother because he's at an age where he gets most of the jokes and can follow the story of the episode! He's asked for the toys for xmas.

HintofVintagePink · 17/10/2021 15:19

My 8 year old and 5 year old both watch it and love it. Teach her to enjoy what she likes and that it’s a good thing everyone likes different things. Urgh I hate this ‘too cool for it’ crap. They are so young!

PinkBuffalo · 17/10/2021 15:20

I would say to her if she enjoys it it not hurting anyone, shame her friends commenting on it though
I not think there such a thing as too young really. I still quite like the something special program on CBeebies and I do not even have kids!

DC’s school had a similar message in their newsletter this week. I’m appalled that children are being allowed to watch this. It hasn’t come from nowhere.

I also find it awful that primary children are on Tik Tok, but I’m possibly in the minority there. I’ll never been a cool mum!

BoredZelda · 17/10/2021 15:25

I have never seen Bluey. Off to find it and watch it now.

Hm2020 · 17/10/2021 15:27

My 7 year old loves it and very nearly bought some bits from hamleys for his birthday but changed it for something at the last minute!
