Is the UK about to collapse?

Penfield · 07/10/2021 14:20

Sorry - There was probably a better way to put this.

Does anyone else have a feeling that we are close to some collapse, explosion, disintegration of society ...

With gas prices, petrol shortages, inflation, Brexit fall out, Covid, gaslighting government etc

I feel like we're on the edge of something - big ...

I don't know

Things don't feel good right now.

almaonao · 07/10/2021 14:23

It does feel that way but I keep being told I've read to much dystopian fiction. Not that I can enjoy anything like that since the virus hit Hmm

vivainsomnia · 07/10/2021 14:24

Only of you read the media every day. That's what they want people to read. It sells.

itistragic · 07/10/2021 14:25

I was thinking this the other day whilst driving. It's a horrible time to be alive.

Merrylegs87 · 07/10/2021 14:25

Stop looking at the news

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 07/10/2021 14:25

Agreed. How or what or when...I don't know. But yes, agreed

Feelslikealot · 07/10/2021 14:25

No, we are not and stupid posts like this just encourages peoples anxiety and causes panic. But no doubt you'll get a thread full of people agreeing with you.

Burnt0utMum · 07/10/2021 14:25

Yes, it feels like this could just be the beginning of bigger problems. I'm worried for my children growing up in this world.

ACNHMAMA · 07/10/2021 14:25

It will be like the 80s again I think. The well off will be having massive parties, getting off their tits. While the poor will be rioting.

SpittinKitten · 07/10/2021 14:26

Seeing as the washing machine I ordered a month back has had its delivery shunted back yet another fortnight from today, I'd say yes. Just to clarify, the collapse will be caused by me exploding.

SummerHouse · 07/10/2021 14:26

No, not feelin' it.

I get you though. I felt like the world was collapsing at the start of the pandemic. It's been horrible, but here the world still is. Occasionally showing us how beautiful it can be. Have hope OP. Have faith. Flowers

Pythonista · 07/10/2021 14:26

If you read MN. Then yes.

Stay away from the news

cushioncovers · 07/10/2021 14:27

Nope, things go up and down, people moan and move on. Things might change as we go along but we are a long way from a whole societal collapse.

londonrach · 07/10/2021 14:27

No. There wasn't a petrol shortage just the media trying to sell papers. Do think there's a very big story they trying to hid....

madisonbridges · 07/10/2021 14:27

No. Get a grip. Apart from the pandemic, there's nothing that I haven't been through before. Were you alive in the 80s?

TheSpiral · 07/10/2021 14:28

I don't feel like that, but I didn't see Covid coming (by which I mean the seriousness of it and the lockdowns and all) until just before the first lockdown announcement - and even then thought it would all be over by Easter - so maybe I am just naiive!

Pythonista · 07/10/2021 14:28

@madisonbridges

No. Get a grip. Apart from the pandemic, there's nothing that I haven't been through before. Were you alive in the 80s?
Ah yes - we weren't sure whether we were going to die of AIDS or a nuclear war.

Honestly, compared to that, COVID is a piece of piss

TheChip · 07/10/2021 14:28

If you switch off the news and just focus on what's right infront of you, things can seem quite rosy.

SisterAgatha · 07/10/2021 14:28

I genuinely felt like this all began after the coalition and that the history books in time will link all the unrest to that.

No reason to think this, it just felt like politically we haven’t been strong since and now here we are…

ReeseWitherfork · 07/10/2021 14:29

I think environmental issues are still my main fear... Extreme weather what with winter coming up. Here's hoping none of the country will be under a few feet of water over the next few months.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 07/10/2021 14:29

@SpittinKitten we ordered a nNeff dishwasher back in march and it still wasn't delivered in August. We cancelled the order and just went with any old one that we found in stock
There's a a microchip that cannot be sourced which is coming from China or something and it's had a lot of affect on different appliances.

Good luck!

FindingMeno · 07/10/2021 14:30

I have the same feeling.
I think its easy to dismiss because we have a bias towards the normal, and we don't sit at all comfortably with the idea that the powers that be might not have it all under control.
I'd not be at all surprised if everything is fine after all, but I don't want to become anaesthetised to the possibilities.

forinborin · 07/10/2021 14:30

@itistragic

Yeah, the WW2 or the Black Death times were clearly infinitely better.
NeedAHoliday2021 · 07/10/2021 14:31

What does “collapsing” look like?

I think it’s going to be a tricky few years with an increase in poverty but we’re coming out the other side of a pandemic so those expecting a continuation of what was before are naive. Most of the issues we face get blamed on Brexit yet it seems similar in a Canada and they haven’t gone through Brexit. Globally, there’s a big impact and it’ll play out as these things do. Media also over play everything so basically, most of us will just ride it out.

Penfield · 07/10/2021 14:31

Interesting that so many of you feel the same. It's not just me then ...

I don't read the news much. So it's not that.

I do watch our government talking though and are aware of the bare facts ie. My heating bills etc are going to go up massively. I can't afford to have the roof fixed because building costs have rocketed etc

I know my kids won't be able to afford to live independently if rents stay as high as they are now.

And I listen to the lies our government tells us. The way they say all that's happening now is good, is how it's meant to be. We are meant to suffer.

All the truth twisting. I'm not burying my head in the sand. And it sounds like others aren't now either.
