We're all aware of the tricks manufacturers introduce to increase their profit margins. The triangles in a Toblerone are further apart than they used to be. The nozzle in toothpaste tubes are a bit bigger because people dispense toothpaste by length rather than volume.

But - you may want to be sitting down for this - I'm pretty sure that PGTips are putting less tea in each teabag than they used to. I mean, if I'm right, this is practically a violation of human rights. Is nothing sacred?

If you have any unused teabags purchased, say, a year ago, please empty one into a teaspoon and post a picture, and I'll make a comparison with the miserly content of a recent teabag.

Believe me, it's a scandal. This could go all the way to the top. It makes you wonder what other underhand strategies are being deployed to rob us...

Yes I’ve noticed this too. The tea bastards.

czycoup · 06/10/2021 13:43

Fuckers.

Just before I quit smoking a few years back, the cigarettes I usually bought suddenly had only 19 instead of 20 for the same price.

Some brands took it down to 17. Then the govt stepped in and stopped them.

I've got some PG tips here. Do you have a pic from a year ago?

Geordieoldgirl · 06/10/2021 13:50

I think lots of manufacturers are sneakily selling us less stuff for more more money. I’ve noticed this with liquid detergent, and also dishwasher tablets - used to be 72 in a packet , now 64 but the same price.

WeepySheepy · 06/10/2021 13:51

Anyone got twitter to angry tweet them?

The life expectancy of a teabag in our house is about seven days, tops.

WeepySheepy · 06/10/2021 13:52

Maybe the tea has got teaier so they don't need as much?

PinkFootstool · 06/10/2021 13:54

Is this why my tea tastes crap at the moment? It's only Yorkshire Tea in this house, but it tastes so burned and "off". New box a few days ago. Maybe it's brewing weirdly in my bucket mug.

PsychoSyd · 06/10/2021 13:55

Switch to loose leaf tea, then you can have as much as you like 😀

Justcallmebebes · 06/10/2021 13:57

I had a packet of crisps at the weekend for the first time in a long, long time and was horrified at what you actually get for 85p nowadays. Basically just the bottom one corner of the bag contained any crisps

1forAll74 · 06/10/2021 13:58

Some brands of tea bags have less tea in now, and to be honest, the tea inside,is like dust, and not proper tea leaves. I only drink Earl Grey tea, TWINNINGS mostly. but Asda Earl grey is ok too.
Chocolate bars are smaller than the old days.

I am not a crisps eater as a rule, but just decided to buy a small bag of Walkers plain ones the other day, and there were hardly any crisps in the packet. Not sure if this is the case now, or just a fluke from the factory conveyer machines

FluffyBooBoo · 06/10/2021 13:59

If anyone wants to compare Tetley, I can provide some older teabags (at least a year old, maybe nearer 18 months).

No Pg tips here I'm though. Sorry.

ifoundthebread · 06/10/2021 14:01

Multi packs of crisps have dropped from 24 to 22. It's the little things that people don't notice but alot of companies are doing it 😔

I think you've found another content for the 'most pretentious' thread!

'PG Tips is not what you might call a delicate drink – its popularity reflects the British taste for tea as a pick-me-up rather than a subtle pleasure. Blessed with a powerful malty flavour and a certain robust astringency this is not, I suspect, a tea that many of its fans spend much time pouring over.'

FluffyBooBoo · 06/10/2021 14:11

WalkingOnTheCracks · 06/10/2021 14:34

They mean 'poring'. Given the context, I'm going to make the charitable assumption that this is intended as a pun.

Then again, it's The Guardian.

They are all at it.

Anyone else noticed that Christmas crackers now come in boxes of 10 instead of 12?

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 06/10/2021 14:46

Yes. And what about the ploy of calling small bagels " bagel thins" and charging more for them. I have even bought these myself!

Would be better to slice a normal bagel into 4 longitudinally and just eat half.

RicherThanYew · 06/10/2021 14:50

Not to be goady but 5 creme eggs anyone? The bastards.

Lavender24 · 06/10/2021 14:54

Aldi have made their poppadoms and their tortilla wraps smaller.

ladygindiva · 06/10/2021 14:56

Dairylea lunchables now have 8 crackers in instead of 9. This happened very recently, in the last few weeks. At first I thought it was a duff packet, a one off but no. Bastards.

Dogmum40 · 06/10/2021 15:02

Tubs of Christmas chocolates drive me nuts! I have a sweet tooth, They have either employed the grinch or they are all thieving Christmas bastards!

Every company do it for every product! I believe the term is shrinkflation but thieving bastards works for me

Fckingfuming · 06/10/2021 15:05

Ds has Brunch bars. Now the boxes contain 5 bars as opposed to the six bars I was getting only weeks ago, for the same price.
