To ask for a hand hold

YukoandHiro · 04/10/2021 00:36

My 11 month old is in hospital with a severe infection, and they are looking for sepsis too they said. She's started her IV antibiotics but she's restless and groaning in her sleep. Her temp is spiking again.

I'm so worried about her, I can't sleep at all, even though the nurses are being great and all the monitors are keeping an eye on her. Sepsis is such a scary word.

Thinking of you both OP.

Domino20 · 04/10/2021 00:38

I'm sorry to hear this. Are you on your own with her at the hospital?

AtrociousCircumstance · 04/10/2021 00:39

Hand hold here.

She’s in the right place with all the care required all around her. The antibiotics will start working and kick in more with every passing second.

Hand hold here.

Thinking of you both. Is there anyone there you can talk to for reassurance? Thanks

Massive hand hold from here.

NorthernBirdAtHeart · 04/10/2021 00:40

Oh I’m so sorry to read that, and you’re right, sepsis is such a scary word. But, at the risk of sounding trite, your DD is in the best possible place and already on IV antibiotics which will be helping her fight this whilst she sleeps.
Thinking of you both, sending lots of love and strength Flowers

Hi OP, mine had similar (septicaemia) as a baby, I know how terrified you must be feeling. I'm thinking of you and sending massive hugs. It's really, really good that they are alert to sepsis and have started her in antibiotics as a precaution - it sounds like they are really on the ball. My DD came through it and is now happy and healthy. I really hope your baby gets better soon. Just take it one step at a time and try to look after yourself/take all the support you can get. Big hugs and huge handhold Flowers xxx

toomuchlaundry · 04/10/2021 00:43

Hand hold here too Flowers

newroundhere · 04/10/2021 00:44

Sending good wishes and a handhold. Do try and get some rest if you can although that probably feels impossible Flowers

FolkyFoxFace · 04/10/2021 00:46

Hand hold here and very un-mumsnetty hugs. ❤️

As pp have said, she's in the best possible place. I can only imagine how you're feeling, I remember how absolutely terrifying it was when DS was admitted with jaundice. I'm sure she'll be fine.

Please do try to snooze if you can. Your body and mind need it. Your baby is safe here. You're allowed to rest to keep yourself strong. I love Asmr on YouTube when I can't sleep for worry. Helps a bit.

You're doing so incredibly well. This will all be a distant memory soon.

nellly · 04/10/2021 00:50

Joining in with another handhold, it's awful when they're poorly and you can't do anything to help. You're in the right place though and hospital staff will be doing everything they can to make your little one comfortable

TrampolineForMrKite · 04/10/2021 00:51

Thinking of you @YukoandHiro. I can’t imagine how scary this must be but she’s in the right place.

Jeds55 · 04/10/2021 00:55

IV antibiotics are amazing things that start working quickly - they'll have started her on a broad spectrum one whilst they investigate further. My dd had sepsis at birth and was in NICU for 3 days then in hospital for a further 5 on AB. She also got late onset sepsis at a month old so we went back into hospital for further treatment. I totally understand how you feel . Write down an questions that you want to ask the doctors/nurses as so easy to forget when trying to deal with it all alone. Thinking of you both

YukoandHiro · 04/10/2021 00:57

Yes it's just me staying with her. It's one parent per child due to Covid, but also my DH is looking after our eldest. He may be able to come for a bit tomorrow while she's at school.

I'm just so worried. I think I'm going to speak to the nurse for some reassurance

The nurse just brought some calpol for her but said that she was happy for her to sleep for now and have it when she wakes even though her temp is raised as her heart rate isn't too bad at the moment so that reassured me.

LibrariesGiveUsPower45321 · 04/10/2021 08:35

Hope she’s doing ok OP x

marykitty · 04/10/2021 08:37

Flowers hope she is doing better

LittleMG · 04/10/2021 08:58

How is she?? Xx

YukoandHiro · 04/10/2021 10:57

She's still spiking a temperature this morning. Not due today's IV til 2pm so I don't think we'll be coming home today. She seems happy in herself. Honestly if we were just at home I'd think she was basically fine. But something about her just made me bring her to a&e yesterday and I'm so glad I did.

BlueSuffragette · 04/10/2021 11:09

Sending best wishes to your dd and to you xx

LittleGwyneth · 04/10/2021 11:33

This might be worth fuck all but as I was reading your post I had this really strong sense inside myself saying 'she's going to be okay'.

Thinking of you Flowers
