To be want decent pillows?

ODFOx · 02/10/2021 20:14

I am sick of buying pillows. My neck is knackered. I am replacing the damn things far too often.
I want firm plumpy pillows like in a hotel that don't flatten in weeks.
I have money to spend and energy to plump them daily as required.
Not feathers. Please help me/ recommend something suitable. Is it that I'm not treating them right or that I'm buying crap ones?

I like my Emma, though it’s a thick slab of a thing.

Sparklesocks · 02/10/2021 20:16

Premier Inn sell their pillows if you like hotel ones www.premierinnathome.com/?gclid=CjwKCAjwhuCKBhADEiwA1HegOUTSNEcWsYWBiFaI-1UrR7k03GeTTkYLbt4KE3rHiYTvSCbRIb2HthoCOnEQAvD_BwE

This is not helpful, but I am in the same boat and I got an amazing one about 10ears ago that completely cured my neck pain & carpal tunnel-like symptoms but it’s totally knackered now and I can’t find another 😭. So I’m watching any recommendations with interest!

Autumngoldleaf · 02/10/2021 20:20

Pillows are sp personal op!
Our most expensive pillow is A 50 goose thing.
You lay your head on thick plump.. Soft... And I can't bloody stand it!!
It won't bend to my neck it's awful?

The ones I love are firm and have body almost like sand in them and they shape to my neck and head and will bend around.
Not mushy fluffy plump.

DotBall · 02/10/2021 20:23

I love IKEA pillows. We’ve had both natural fill and polyester over the years but they cater for high/mid/low side/back/front sleepers.

Not excessively expensive either.

I’m currently using a high rise feather which is bliss for my knackered right shoulder/neck joint issue.

EmoIsntDead · 02/10/2021 20:25

Latex! I've tried every fucking pillow known to man and my current one is BLISS. The make is Yanis and it's dunlop latex, got it on Amazon. My husband's has the regular one and I've got the slim version as I sleep on my front

idontlikealdi · 02/10/2021 20:27

Dunelm side sleeper pillows. I've been searching for years and spent fortunes. Couldn't get on with Emma or Dunlopillo at all.

GemmaRuby · 02/10/2021 20:29

Tempur pillow, so good. Very robust and supportive but soft at the same time somehow.

MrsPatrickDempsey · 02/10/2021 20:29

Tempa
Expensive but lovely and last ages.

Dee1975 · 02/10/2021 20:29

I was the same as you op - then I bought a simba pillow. About £70 I think. I haven’t looked back.

(I only need one simba)

MrsPatrickDempsey · 02/10/2021 20:29

Tempur - oh god too much wine

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 02/10/2021 20:30

I took two pillows such as you are unhappy with (and I was too for the same reason) and I stuffed them both together into one pillow case. Voila! Two crap pillows became one dumpy firm one instantly. My neck is now fine and my pillow budget is no longer under strain.

Wheelerdeeler · 02/10/2021 20:31

Recently got Emma and love her

BrownCurlsAmberEyes · 02/10/2021 20:32

I hear you, OP. About 5 years ago I spent 4 x £80 at John Lewis thinking I was getting supportive pillows. The buggers flatten after 10 mins and stay flat all night. I hate them and myself for not returning them at the time.

sbhydrogen · 02/10/2021 20:32

Dunlopillo are my go-to pillows 👌

twilightcafe · 02/10/2021 20:35

Feathers. Sorry!

The synthetic ones never mould to my neck contours properly and I end up with a cricked neck.

CornishTiger · 02/10/2021 20:48

I’m a front sleeper and recently got a Kally. After washing it was lumpy :-(

DroopyClematis · 02/10/2021 20:51

I'm looking for decent pillows.
Have tried loads of memory foam, polyester filled , feather filled ( don't get me started on the Dunelm crackle!) so not sure what to get.
Goose down seems the way forward but I can't reconcile myself to how goose down is produced.

Not sure that there is a suitable alternative.
So fed up of lumps after a few weeks, crackles, flatness, firmness, unyielding and generally, bloody uncomfortable pillows.
We've done top names, middle names and supermarket brands.

I generally pull my gorgeous duvet up from the bottom of the bed and lay my head on that.

The duvet is over thirty years old, is brilliant and comfy, but even that needs changing.

I'll watch this thread with interest.

Holy lord. I could have started this thread and this is the response I was looking for!! I have thought so many times "I wish I could get a pillow like at premier Inn."

SummerOfComedy · 02/10/2021 20:57

I bought 2 Sofslee pillows on Amazon. Polyester filling.

Reviews seemed good, so for under £30 a pair, I thought I'd give them a go.

Used them for nearly 3 months now and they are still looking (and feeling) good.
Not gone lumpy, still plump and holding their shape.

Very happy with them.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 02/10/2021 21:05

I have a sloped pillow to help my back and breathing when I sleep. It took a while to get used to it but my back is sooooo much better. I haven't had a sciatica flare up in ages.

TheBullfinch · 02/10/2021 21:19

Wool. Environmentally friendly. Doesn't hurt the animal. Cool in summer, warm in winter. Bouncy and soft.

purplesofachair · 02/10/2021 21:29

I always needed two pillows, I constantly was turning them and plumping them in the night trying to get comfy.
About a year ago I bought a Hypnos high profile latex pillow and I LOVE it. I now only need one pillow, it supports me and retains it shape. It cost about £60 and is worth every penny.
Good luck in finding a pillow that works for you OP!

Premier Inn pillows! The firm ones are fab!

Washeduponthebeach · 02/10/2021 21:32

I just bought some Bedeck ‘firm’ pillows.
So far they’re great.
