To be want decent pillows?

I am sick of buying pillows. My neck is knackered. I am replacing the damn things far too often.
I want firm plumpy pillows like in a hotel that don't flatten in weeks.
I have money to spend and energy to plump them daily as required.
Not feathers. Please help me/ recommend something suitable. Is it that I'm not treating them right or that I'm buying crap ones?

The white company ones are lovely. Mine have lasted 2 years so far. (Non feather ones)

I've just bought us the Dormer full forever anti allergy and the full forever extra firm. We use firm on bottom and the softer on top. Its only been a couple of weeks but we are liking them.

These Panda memory foam bamboo pillows are nice. I got mine because the ex got himself one and I liked using it when he wasn't around. Firm but soft at the same time.

It's Sleep and soak pillows for me.

greenlynx · 02/10/2021 21:36

I’ve got Dunelm pillow for side sleepers last week (firm, cotton cover, polyester filling) it’s a bit big and too plumpy for me, I like small softer pillows (DH’s got it) but it sounds like something you are after. It’s £14.99, if I remember correctly.

Bobsyer · 02/10/2021 21:39

God, I hear you.

I got roundly jumped on once when I said I replace my pillow every 3-6 months because I can't find a comfortable one that lasts - I realise it's not environmentally good, but what am I supposed to do? I can't sleep poorly every night in a bid to save the planet Confused.

I use one pillow but I'm SUCH a restless sleeper, I don't wake much but I'm constantly shifting it about and punching the corners. I bought some nice firm ones a few months ago from M&S but they're already getting a bit lumpy. TBF they were £15 for 2 so I shouldn't be surprised really!

I want to buy this one: PRAKTVÄDD - it's £50 so I've resisted so far but I think I might treat myself when I move in a couple of weeks. They've got a little set up in Warrington Ikea where you can try the pillows and this one felt amazing.

Tempur - I got one 6 months ago based on another thread on here

Longhairmightcare · 02/10/2021 21:44

Latex pillows -dunlopillo is the brand I’ve got my mum has latex-sense brand. About £70 but so worth it.
They are very poofy, your head sinks in, but still support the head and do not go flat ever.
Combine it with a silk pillowcase and you have the world’s best pillow.

Get a buckwheat filled cylinder (like a small bolster).

Gladioli23 · 02/10/2021 21:50

I know you said no feathers... But I am a firm believer that they are the answer to this problem.

  1. Thinnish pilote, sits underneath. Here you want the flattened ones you'd otherwise discard.
  2. On top, a feather pillow - doesn't have to be expensive, I'm still liking the one I bought from Dunelm maybe a decade ago for about £10. I still have one I prefer though as the other one must be over 20 years old and is a disappointment. Yes, you have to plump this top one up but it's satisfying and then moulds perfectly to your head.

Alternatively I've also taken up sleeping on my back with no pillows at all, which was weird at first (normally side sleep) but makes life easier now I'm used to it.

Ariela · 02/10/2021 21:50

Baavet. You can buy extra filling and top up to the required amount. They're wool fleece which can be warming or cooling depending on the season.

annacondom · 02/10/2021 21:53

This is very useful! I too am.fed up with buying the things, only for them to go cardboard after a week. What to go for, though?

Bigpinkslippers · 02/10/2021 21:53

Premier inn soft pillows are rubbish, separate and flatten within a couple of months. Firm ones however are great.

Woeismethischristmas · 02/10/2021 21:54

Soak and sleep silk pillows I got some years ago in the sales and they are awesome. Hate bouncy hollowfibre pillows.

TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder · 02/10/2021 21:54

Tempur definitely, the original wave shaped one. Expensive but last for years. I use a pillow protector on it too hopefully it make it last even longer.

BeautifulBirds · 02/10/2021 21:55

Dorma memory foam pillow, 40 quid from dunelm. It's great.

Leftbutcameback · 02/10/2021 21:57

John Lewis soft like down (not feather though). I have one medium and one soft and it's been the best combo I've found.

Blueberrycreampie · 02/10/2021 21:58

Useful thread as really need new pillows. Can you dry clean them?

Anon778833 · 02/10/2021 22:02

I'm in the same situation. I've bought expensive White company pillows, essential Waitrose ones.

They are all crap.

The best one I have is a memory foam one that I bought in Primark.

But I do crave a perfect pillow.

NotMeekNotObedient · 02/10/2021 22:05

Tempur neck pillows here. The only other ones I can recommend are the feather & down Nimbus ones.

I'm a weirdo who needs flat pillows Grin which seem to be a pain to find
After spinal surgery, the surgeon said to sleep with no pillows or one very flat pillow to keep my spine in alignment. I used to sleep on my stomach but I can't after surgery Sad

PhilInt · 02/10/2021 22:14

Tempur comfort cloud, so very worth it. No more neck pain and I only need one. No plumping either (I've had mine two years).
