Or are all women's jumpers pathetically thin?

Looking to buy a couple of jumpers for winter. Why oh why are they all so bloody thin? Are thick jumpers too manly or am I missing something?

What is the name of those jumpers that were "oiled"? Thick Guernsey types? I remember them from years ago.

Unreasonabubble · 01/10/2021 22:04

Blush Answered my own question, they are Guernsey jumpers.

Just had a Google. They have gone up so much in price but I think they are probably worth it considering who they were first made for, the fishermen to keep them warm.

NightPrancer8204 · 01/10/2021 22:05

Time to dig out my Xmas jumper Grin

gogohm · 01/10/2021 22:07

My good ones are from Woolovers so warm I rarely wear them indoors!

HappyBus · 01/10/2021 22:22

I bought one from Superdry and it's so thick I will probably only get one day a year it's cold enough to wear it! It was called dropped shoulder cable crew neck and comes in a few colours, it was 44.99

amicissimma · 01/10/2021 22:32

I like Woolovers, too. And they have Guernseys. They give good measurements so make sizing easy.

But I never know whether to pronounce them Wool lovers (loving wool) or woolovers (like pullovers). Hard to recommend a supplier you can't pronounce!

PutTheBathOnPlease · 01/10/2021 22:35

Pricey, but the company Celtic do fabulous pure wool, long cosy jumpers for ladies. Some plain some patterned

saltinesandcoffeecups · 01/10/2021 22:50

Try woolovers… I’ve bout exclusively from them for about 10 years. Sadly their prices have gone up, but quality is still really good.

Tomatobear · 01/10/2021 23:18

You are all amazing. Thank you. I am looking for outdoor ones that I can wear for everything from walking the dogs to evenings out really. I will definitely shop around these suggestions and will not freeze to death this winter! Am also tall and hate wearing jumper crop tops, drives me batty.

I’ve got loads of Superdry jumpers and they are thick. Granted they are short but I prefer them that way.

Kittyfairy · 01/10/2021 23:24

I buy mens now. Size S-M tends to fit me and I'm a 10-12 I also only buy mens t-shirts too. I'm sick of how tight and revealing women's are. They strangle my upper arms! Mens are so much more comfortable.

SirChenjins · 01/10/2021 23:25

This is the bane of my life - even with a long sleeved thermal I’m cold with women’s jumpers. Woolovers are OK but still not warm enough so I often wear a thermal and 2 jumpers plus a fleece of it’s really cold. I’ve always felt the cold though.

Rubyupbeat · 01/10/2021 23:28

'Toast' have some lovely thick jumpers for sale, bit on the dear side, but well worth the price.

ShaneTheThird · 01/10/2021 23:34

Agreed and women's coats are thin shit too. I want to get some yak jumpers soon they are lovely and warm. Pricey but worth it.

Dita73 · 02/10/2021 00:16

I’m sick of finding a jumper online that looks lovely and then you see that it’s cropped. They’re all bloody cropped! If you’re in your 20’s then great and you can wear them and look fabulous but if I put one on my nipples would be hanging out the bottom of the thing

Thecathouse · 02/10/2021 00:37

I knit my own, and my partners and child's

Could be worth learning if you are interested? Worth bearing in mind it's hours and hours of work and a heft price to buy the wool though

My nan used to knit on commission, but as the time went on people were less willing to pay the price for hand knitted goods.

Apparently people will drop 500 on a designer jumper but won't even pay 300 for a pure wool hand knitted traditional aran with beautiful cable work

RaininSummer · 02/10/2021 00:53

Expensive but I found a company called house of bruar last week when looking for good jumpers.

Yoursaintlyglowofconcern · 02/10/2021 00:58

It really is difficult. 20 years ago you could get chunky proper wool jumpers even from John Lewis. Now you can’t get them in the high st. Just crap acrylic everywhere that is vile.

HollaHolla · 02/10/2021 01:01

@RaininSummer

Expensive but I found a company called house of bruar last week when looking for good jumpers.
House of Bruar are like a massive posh garden centre come department store. If you’re anywhere near Perth (they are based at Blair Atholl), it’s worth a visit. They do have good sales though; I’ve a lovely navy merino/cashmere I got there about 7 or 8 years ago. If only I wasn’t too fat to wear it right now….. 😫
Ilovetea33 · 02/10/2021 01:03

I like Judith Glue Orkney knitwear.

Thomasina79 · 02/10/2021 01:47

Woolovers are good, natural fabrics and nice and long, especially the tunics. Not cheap though! Marks do a thermal top which can be worn under them.

RainbowCrayons · 02/10/2021 05:03

I mostly buy men's too. They have more room in the chest too so they fit better on the tall and bigger busted too! I do have my eye on some of the House of Bruar jumpers and a Shetland wool fairisle. I've just gone back to work after maternity leave so that will be a treat with my first pay! I also like this one from Toast www.toa.st/products/remnant-yarn-hand-knitted-sweater-ecru-multi but it's really expensive for what is essentially remnant wool so I think I will see if my mum can knit me something similar for Christmas.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 02/10/2021 05:12

Go outdoors have merino leggings in kids age 15-16 for £11 a pair and mens small merino tops for £16 so I've ordered 2 of each. I'm size 10 so hopefully they will fit.

nicecheesegromit · 02/10/2021 06:55

Celtic and Co is my favourite for jumpers. Very good quality, long and warm

Teaandscone · 02/10/2021 07:11

I have worn these for several years; super cosy, especially the Shetland, and a good range of colours.
