Why aren't trolls allowed?

I bloody hate reading a thread and then half way through, when its just getting juicy, it turns out its been deleted for being a troll. Honestly the trolls are better than real life and I'm here for the drama anyway. Aibu? Lighthearted!

Also I've been the troll that infact isn't a troll at all. But for some reason I wasn't believed and deleted or jumped on.
Similarly I've edited my story to keep anonymous and that hasn't been detected.
Or I've read a boring thread about nothing much and its been deleted even though it's boring enough to pass. How do you know? How could anyone know!

I was deleted for being ‘racist’ once under a previous name!! I genuinely wasn’t and won’t go into what I said but no-one would listen to what I was saying. Still feel frustrated when I think about it 😂

HunkyPunk · 28/09/2021 12:16

What annoys me more is threads being deleted because someone has posted an obviously fake, but amusing thread, purporting to be the ‘other party’ of an existing thread. Everyone posting on it ‘gets’ it, and the original thread probably isn’t active any longer anyway, but the funny thread gets deleted as a TAAT. Completely unnecessary.

Namechangehereandnow · 28/09/2021 12:19

Does my head in too.

I had a comment deleted, was labelled a troll - literally I said ‘the OP’s story has changed a few times, if this is true’ .. then my opinion .. how that made me a troll I will never understand. Mnhq would not respond to me and explain how this made me a troll, or why they were justified in deleting my very valid comment.

Blossomtoes · 28/09/2021 12:20

Here for the deletion message.

LizBennet · 28/09/2021 12:22

I’m sure there are creative writing classes you could join if you’re interested in tall tales OP 🤔

LaBellina · 28/09/2021 12:23

Because you have to draw the line somewhere. The undisturbed presence of trolls can lead them to take it further and deliberately post stuff to wind up and provoke, basically turning this place into a complete bun fight. So I understand why MNHQ has a blanket no trolls rule in place.

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 28/09/2021 12:24

I enjoy the silly troll threads but am cross that MN lets the obvious (sex-neutral) "damsel in distress" threads stand.

The "Help! I'm trapped with a man I barely know!!!! What should I do????" irritates me beyond belief, especially when MNers fall all over themselves to post the usual "r u ok hun" and "I hope the OP is ok, let us know". Tip: the poster is a troll so other than a need to troll, the person is fine.

Moneysavvymam · 28/09/2021 12:26

what about obvious reversals?
aibu to punch my dil in the face because she said I can't feed acid to my grandchild?
drives me up the wall.

I suppose we could have a creative thread writing board, where everyone is in on it. We could even have a scoring system like the AIBU voting options, where you get to mark people on number of buttons pushed etc.

Moneysavvymam · 28/09/2021 12:27

@LaBellina How do they know?!

OP posts:
JesusInTheCabbageVan · 28/09/2021 12:28

Hmm, acid as in LSD, or sulphuric?

Brilliant idea. I’d love that.
Namechangehereandnow · 28/09/2021 12:34

I definitely wasn’t being a troll yet was branded as one! 😡

burritofan · 28/09/2021 12:37

I don’t mind trolls being deleted but “the OP has real-life privacy concerns so we’re taking this down” when really it’s “the OP has had their arse handed to them and has run away crying” gets my goat.

Gardenlass · 28/09/2021 12:37

I had a comment deleted, apparently because I don't subscribe to current political correctness. It seems like if your opinion is that of a previous generation they don't want to hear it. I was not a troll, definitely. Just giving my thoughts.

21782b7 · 28/09/2021 12:38

I think if its a fun thread it should be left up.

But if it is an awful troll thread on a sensitive subject then o think it should be removed

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 28/09/2021 12:40

I agree.

I once had a post deleted for "troll hunting" (I had no idea that was a thing) because I expressed doubt about the poster's intentions.

Doglicks · 28/09/2021 12:43

I got deleted once for referring to the Travelling Community, in a respectful way, but apparently you can't mention them AT ALL on MN!

DressedUpAtAnIvy · 28/09/2021 12:43

What if people put ‘hairy handed’ rather than ‘light-hearted’ in their OP, perhaps those could be allowed to stand? (On certain subjects only.)

LizBennet · 28/09/2021 12:46

That would be better 😂

Trull hunting is Really fucking annoying though.
If you don’t believe it, don’t answer.

No one wants to read Miss marple sleuthing through the posts and smugly pointing out inaccuracies, ESPECIALLY going through pirated history etc.

People might just change bits and bobs to try and not be outing and not remember.

LouiseBelchersBunnyEars · 28/09/2021 12:48

*going through poster history.

Troll hunting is worse than trolling for me

EmmalineC · 28/09/2021 12:49

Some trolls are entertaining but the grief vampires and bereavement trolls make it difficult for posters needing genuine support in heartbreaking situations.

LaBellina · 28/09/2021 12:49

I always wonder that too @Moneysavvymam. For example some threads are fairly obvious like a first time poster opening a thread about stuff like poo.

But does anyone remember the ‘My neighbours puddles saga’?
Apparently that was deleted after several full threads because the OP was a troll. The story sounded very legit to me and I also wonder why it could continue for so long and how they eventually found out that the OP was a troll. Fascinating.
