Watching Keir Stammer on Marr this morning scrambling to answer whether or not it is transphobic to say “only women have a cervix” was the final nail in the coffin for me this morning with Labour. In the aftermath of The Lancet calling women, “bodies with vaginas”, I think I’ve finally figured out that the current belief system is that transwomen are women, but women who were observed female at birth are “bodies with vaginas”. Clearly Labour aren’t in need of the votes of bodies with vaginas, brains and a spine.

@LittlePearl

He is such a disappointment.

I have no one I can vote for. I have never voted Conservative and will never vote for a party led by BJ. I can't vote Labour or Lib Dem because of total ideological capture.

I brought my children up repeating the mantra: Every vote counts, you MUST use your vote! But I'm now faced with no alternative but spoil my ballot paper.

I'm gutted.

If you can find enough people in your area who feel the same as you, then you can all chip in some money and choose one among you to stand for election. Then you have someone to vote for.

I won't pretend it will be easy, but democracy only works if people get involved.

@Ninjawannabe

Just for arguments sake...

The Tories have been in power for the last 11 years. Is it really right to get all indignant at how you're never voting Labour given xyz when the entirety of this bullshit has come up under Tory rule? Why are Labour getting blamed?

OK fine, Keir isn't convincing anyone he'll make any beneficial changes, but Boris and his predecessors are the ones who have presided over all that has happened over the last decade +, and at least Labour won't be slash/burning UC, NHS, school budgets to the same extent? These all affect women too. And IMO these things affect natal women a lot more day to day especially poor women.

I'm donning my hard hat for this next comment but I think you're in a position of privilege if who shares the changing rooms at the local swimming pool is your most pressing concern rather than how to afford to pay for your children's shoes and food

I honestly think the tories don't give a toss about women, natal or otherwise, and are laughing all the way to the next poll that somehow Labour are being blamed for something which has happened on their watch. They've played a blinder

Actually, this all stems from the Gender Recognition Act of 2004, when Labour were in government. Although I accept that the Tories have done nothing to overturn in since they've been in power.

Also, if you think that poorer and working class women are not disproportionately affected by this then you are wrong. Working class women are far more likely to need the services that used to be single sex, but with Self ID will now be wide open to any males who wishes.

Prisons, refuges, hospital wards - all places where women are vulnerable and need spaces away from men. If you think it is privileged to worry about this then you are wrong.

I’m not sure what to make of this…🙄

It shouldn’t be said that “only women have a cervix”.

This person is deluded, if they have a cervix then it's one they purchased off the internet.
Whatthechicken · 26/09/2021 16:22

They were onto something.

It shouldn’t be said that “only women have a cervix”.
Joystir59 · 26/09/2021 16:24

I cannot stand Keir Starmer. He is so unbelievably lack lustre, totally lacking in conviction or backbone or anything.

I thought India Willoughby was a trans woman? Is it possible for transwomen to have a cervix?

Oh I do remember reading (I think in Our Bodies Ourselves) that when locating one's cervix it feels like the tip of one's nose. Maybe someone who can't tell their arse from their elbow sometimes gets confused nose/cervix? We've all done it.
Staryflight445 · 26/09/2021 16:32

Trans women don’t have a cervix.

KippersHangover · 26/09/2021 16:34

It's all fucking ridiculous.

The TRAs always use the "if you had a hysterectomy would you not be a woman?" argument... That doesn't even make sense.

It doesn't make "only women have a cervix" incorrect just because some women have had them removed. It is still only women who have them.

All women have a cervix - wrong.

Only women have a cervix - correct

What's so complicated about this?

Sparkyduchess · 26/09/2021 16:34

It just comes off as unhinged, I’m amazed that so few people have called Willoughby out on it?

I can’t as blocked 😇

AlfonsoTheMango · 26/09/2021 16:34

No, transwomen do not have cervixes. Nor do they have vaginas or Fallopian Tubes or uteruses. Only women have them.

Saltedcaramel78 · 26/09/2021 16:34

I don't know enough about this and find trying to understand trans issues without getting caught up into the two extremist views really tricky. Apologies if this has already been discussed or is obvious. I feel like the conversation tends to be dominated by transwoman.

My question is- what about trans men? If you're biologically female and transitioned, you might still be in a situation where you call yourself male, but still have a female reproductive system which will need healthcare. Is this something being considered?

Staryflight445 · 26/09/2021 16:35

Absolutely nothing @KippersHangover

borntobequiet · 26/09/2021 16:35

Transmen can have cervixes so it's not only women.

Trans men are biological women. That’s why they have cervixes. But I expect someone else has said it already.

AlfonsoTheMango · 26/09/2021 16:36

India Willoughby is either lying or deluded. Either way, Willoughby does not and cannot have a cervix.

Saltedcaramel78 · 26/09/2021 16:37

Yes I think that's what I was getting at.

So should transmen have to refer to themselves as women (which I imagine would be traumatic and upsetting), to access the healthcare they'll need if they still have a female reproductive system?

murasaki · 26/09/2021 16:38

WIlloughby may have a rubber band inserted somehere in their neo (not) vagina, but it not a cervix. And they know full well no one will take them up on their offer to check,

Tilltheend99 · 26/09/2021 16:38

Yawn. The Tory’s have been in charge of this s**t show for over a decade but proclaiming not to vote Labour over some faux outrage is really gonna show them and improve the lives of U.K. women

Melroses · 26/09/2021 16:39

I’m a woman. Trans. With a cervix. Men who are trans have a cervix. Facts.

?

Rhubarbsoup · 26/09/2021 16:40

Yep, there aren't any parties that seem to stand for the majority of people in this country anymore.

Melroses · 26/09/2021 16:40

Sorry - lost the picture there:

Transmen are female. They will be aware of this.

What's the other 'extremist' view you're referring to here? There's the extremist view that sex isn't real; that only males can be real women - actual women are 'cis' bodies with vaginas; that women shouldn't speak; and that we should be called dehumanising names etc. What's the other extremist view that worries you?
