It shouldn’t be said that “only women have a cervix”.

Watching Keir Stammer on Marr this morning scrambling to answer whether or not it is transphobic to say “only women have a cervix” was the final nail in the coffin for me this morning with Labour. In the aftermath of The Lancet calling women, “bodies with vaginas”, I think I’ve finally figured out that the current belief system is that transwomen are women, but women who were observed female at birth are “bodies with vaginas”. Clearly Labour aren’t in need of the votes of bodies with vaginas, brains and a spine.

So they're only worried about offending transwomen not transmen...

Tealightsandd · 28/09/2021 15:35

So they're excluding transmen?

Well then they're being very transphobic.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 29/09/2021 04:07

@TatianaBis

100% this.
SpindleWorld · 29/09/2021 08:22

I saw on Twitter that Harry Miller (Harry the Owl / We Are Fair Cop) had done an interview about this, and I thought, whatever happened to his appeal against the College of Policing that was heard back in March? The one about the 'non-crime hate incidents'?

I've been googling a bit and not getting anywhere. Maybe it's too early in the morning and the arthritis meds are getting to me ...

LuaDipa · 29/09/2021 09:07

@AnyFucker

Keir Starmer doing all the work of the present government, again

He is a gift to Boris Johnson, that is for sure

This.

Unfortunately there is still no credible opposition to the Boris shitshow. What a mess.

FreeBritnee · 29/09/2021 09:15

@TatianaBis

They are terrified of ‘the mob’. Transmen on the whole have better things to do than threaten to. rape and shoot people on the internet (whispers very quietly ..... because of their genetic make up). Hence why these politicians are so weak. They are fucking terrified of upsetting the extremists.
MissMarpleRocks · 29/09/2021 11:36

And the politicians don’t really care about women or are too scared to put their heads above the parapet.

Wildwildrosebuds · 29/09/2021 17:01

Transmen can have cervixes so it's not only women.

THEY
ARE
WOMEN.

I’m sorry but I’m so done with this shit. Absolutely done. I’m tired of being polite, I’m tired of being “kind”, that is what got us in this unholy mess in the first place, and I am done. If a transman wants to be addressed with male pronouns or have a male name or present themselves in a masculine way that’s fine, crack on, I’m not gonna be a dick about that for the sake of being a dick. But I’m not going to lie and pretend they aren’t women.

You don’t get to identify out of (or indeed into) womanhood and then insist that we remove or change all the language we use to represent ourselves because it makes you feel better. If you have a cervix, you’re a woman. If that’s a difficult truth for you to hear then that’s a pity, but it’s not my problem.

Agree entirely.

For absolute fuck sake. This is insane. Completely bloody insane. So fucking what if you have to admit on medical forms to being biologically male or female (at birth as a pp suggested unthread)...so damn well what. Seriously just suck it up. We all have to accept and admit our increasing age on virtually everything we fill in. Some of us have to dig up old painful memories of still births and miscarriages, addictions, crimes even when they are necessary to disclose. And all the other things that people would rather forget or perhaps they regret. Suck it fucking well up, admit you are male or female at birth, big fucking deal and stop destroying society over it.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 29/09/2021 17:51

@Wildwildrosebuds - hear hear!

MissMarpleRocks · 29/09/2021 17:54

👏👏👏👏👏

EishetChayil · 29/09/2021 18:04

@Wildwildrosebuds

BRAVA. Seriously. Totally with you!

Runningupthecurtains · 29/09/2021 18:46

@Wildwildrosebuds
Well said. 👏👏👏👏

Disability, age, race, loss of a loved one, infertility.... No one can identify out of these so why should biological sex be a different story?

FreeBritnee · 29/09/2021 18:59

Absolutely.

I have to see and be friendly to pregnant women every day and every day that reminds me of the babies I lost but my god that’s doesn’t give me the right to be abusive to those women or demand they stop getting pregnant. It’s my cross to bare and if it was causing me such a problem that I was contemplating suicide I would go get therapy for it.

Marguerite2000 · 29/09/2021 19:02

Another vote for wildwildrosebuds
And why doesn't this forum have a like function like every other forum?

VanGoSunflowers · 29/09/2021 19:07

Yep. Me for wildwildrosebuds too.

WatchWait · 29/09/2021 19:32

wildrosebuds for PM!

okletsdothis · 29/09/2021 19:39

@Bordois

Sorry, I just assumed my cats pronouns there as well. I shall educate myself and do better
You joke, but there's a cat cafe in Glasgow with a couple of 'gender neutral' cats. Apparently their pronouns are they/them Hmm
NiceGerbil · 29/09/2021 19:40

Gardiner states that black people in South Africa were oppressed outrageously because of their identity.

Really? Their inner invisible Identity?

Nothing to do with the colour of their skin?

Well I didn't know that.

Funny that no white people were seen as black and treated accordingly isn't it. Bit of a mystery.

What an arsehole.

Plus of course the reversal.

Saying females are the equivalent of white SA who supported apartheid.
And males are the black people in this current situation.

Fuck off.

BoredZelda · 29/09/2021 20:14

YANBU. I used to be a Labour councillor. I wouldn’t vote for them now in a million years.

You’d rather vote for a government who are systematically destroying support for disabled people? Who actually said removing the support is helping disabled people be more independent.

You’d rather vote for a government who decided children in poverty didn’t need to be fed in the school holidays, and when they were eventually forced in to it, used the opportunity to give the contract to their pals who provided a couple of slices bread and processed cheese and were paid handsomely for it?

You’d rather vote for a government who have proven themselves unable to deal effectively with something like a pandemic without using it to line their pockets and those of their cronies?

Just because someone used some language that you don’t like which in the end will make fuck all difference to the economy, and certainly not to the people in society who are struggling to keep the lights on.

Nice.

MuthaFunka61 · 29/09/2021 20:27

I agree with you @BoredZelda.

As much as I detest what is happening I can't not vote against the Tories and so open the door for them to walk through. Neither can I vote Libdem after they sold those with disabilities off for 5p on a plastic bag.

The air is blue on election day though.

See that just assumes that Labour deserve my vote because the Tories are arseholes too. But I know that Kier and David and Emily and Angela all know that some men aren't women. And when people know that what they are saying is a lie but they say it anyway because it is expedient well that makes them very dangerous I think.

This sort of totalitarian policing of purity of thought doesn't generally end well on the left. I won't vote for it. I don't think any self-respecting woman or indeed anyone who respects the truth should.

MuthaFunka61 · 29/09/2021 20:30

I don't agree with your reasoning though @BoredZelda,there's a lot more to this than just language being offensive.

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 29/09/2021 20:42

Yes @MuthaFunk61

No-one is going to vote for Tories because of some arses language. It is the impact of that language on a vast number of people including all disabled women, all female children living in poverty etc. There is no longer a choice between a government who looks after their own and a government who looks after others. Women are not being looked after and there are material consequences of that.

Waitwhat23 · 29/09/2021 20:46

Just as a point - not voting Labour doesn't = voting Tory. I've seen many posters on here say they won't vote Tory but can't vote Labour or any other party so are now politically homeless. I've voted SNP since I was 18 but now can't vote for them - I haven't a clue who I'm going to vote for next.

In terms of language not mattering and 'certainly not to the people in society who are struggling to keep the lights on', I'm always put in mind of the Deptford Woman's Project. This article (from about halfway down) talks about their experience of working class women's language being policed and changed by privileged students - www.feministcurrent.com/2018/03/23/leftist-women-uk-refuse-accept-labours-attempts-silence-critiques-gender-identity/

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 29/09/2021 20:52

Very true@Waitwhat23 but lid dems and greens appear to also not be worried about women's rights
