It shouldn’t be said that “only women have a cervix”.

Watching Keir Stammer on Marr this morning scrambling to answer whether or not it is transphobic to say “only women have a cervix” was the final nail in the coffin for me this morning with Labour. In the aftermath of The Lancet calling women, “bodies with vaginas”, I think I’ve finally figured out that the current belief system is that transwomen are women, but women who were observed female at birth are “bodies with vaginas”. Clearly Labour aren’t in need of the votes of bodies with vaginas, brains and a spine.

(No pun intended)

When Zac Smith won Richmond by 45 votes that time I bet there was some serious ferretting about in the spoiled ballots that night by all concerned.

I agree Jeremy Corbyn would likely send his agent alone to the huddles, unless alerted to an 'upset' in the offing or required to present himself briefly by the returning officer as a legal nicety.

Portillo Moments are still every safe candidates' worst nightmare.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 28/09/2021 02:48

Anyone considering joining the Green Party might want to have a look at this - and read the comments too grahamlinehan.substack.com/p/the-fix-is-in-342

Also consider waiting until the new leader is announced at the beginning of October - if it's Shahrar Ali, might be worth considering. If it's not, probably not.

WatchWait · 28/09/2021 06:28

Very interesting about spoiled ballots. I had thought they were just binned but it makes sense that they are looked at, especially if the voting is close.

borntobequiet · 28/09/2021 07:34

I contacted the Labour Party (again) after this weekend to say that much as I’d like to be able to vote for them, after this, I can’t.

Helleofabore · 28/09/2021 07:46

1463 votes with 94% support.

Another poll result that is overwhelming in its decisiveness. And we have seen that the ‘another anti-trans’ thread posters have been and voted so it is not that they haven’t had their say.

Everytime a AIBU poll is done it is the same, 1000+ (I have seen them with over 2000 votes) voices saying this is not ok.

And yet, we are still being told that anyone who disagrees with the language changes forced onto us, belong to a small group of extremists.

Not sure when those repeating that will work out that they have been lied to and that it is projection. They belong to the small extremist group who have developed a very powerful voice.

labourslostlove · 28/09/2021 09:04

Re the spoilt ballots being looked at, is that only in close votes so they can agree that a vote wasn't cast? I live in a constituency with a 10k Tory majority, so my vote doesn't count for much anyway, but if I knew that the Lab and Tory candidates would actually see what I wrote if I spoilt my ballot then I'd do it.

In this morning’s edition of “How much worse Labour MPs can make this”. Barry Gardiner compares women who support single sex exemption to the race boards during apartheid in South Africa.

NettleTea · 28/09/2021 09:20

all I can say is there must be some fucking huge money and influence behind this. The pushback against women each time is getting bigger and stronger and angrier. There is not another 'rights' movement in the history of the world with this much traction

Waitwhat23 · 28/09/2021 09:25

@NettleTea in case you haven't seen this - www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-document-that-reveals-the-remarkable-tactics-of-trans-lobbyists

Completely agree NCBlossom.

And now David Lammy has said those opposing TWAW are dinosaurs and “hoarding” rights. The ultimate in gaslighting by a member of a sex class that hoarded rights from women, like voting, holding property, having a credit card other than in her husbands name. 🤬
THIS. It's now entirely acceptable, it seems, for even Labour politicians to speak about women's rights as if we're in pre-franchise days.

THIS is what Stonewall have done - they've sent us back in time and men (supported, unfortunately, by too many women) are happily stripping away even our right to use the language that describes us.

SmellyOldOwls · 28/09/2021 10:26

@OrangeJuiceAndNoodles

I saw another Labour MP squirming under similar questioning from Adam boulton on Sky News this morning.

She also got extremely flustered and said that she didn't see the point in 'debating this'. Clearly wanted to get off the subject ASAP.

Politicians are basically petrified of offending the trans lobby, or Twitter. It's obvious.

They've seen what JK Rowling has been smeared with and know they'll never survive being branded as a transphobe themselves. If someone as hugely popular and well liked as JKR can attract slurs and hate then what chance does Keir Starmer, or any other politician have of weathering that kind of storm?

Crikey, that's bad! I'd love to see the letter he's replying to - I get the impression he may not be taking the points on board. . .

Differences between races: cosmetic, socially constructed, often limited to levels of melanin in skin, varies over time.

Some differences between sexes in humans: Completely different internal organs, only one kind grows new humans inside their bodies, have existed for millennia and unlikely to change any time soon.

But yes Barry, it’s exactly the same.

I would love to see an interview with Maria Miller, Tory MP, to see if she regrets opening this can of worms and what her current stance is.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 28/09/2021 12:36

To add in to this drama - the Lancet and their headline front page of "bodies with vaginas" have now come out with a sorry-not-sorry "apology" that basically says "sorry you're offended but trans rights".

It shouldn’t be said that “only women have a cervix”.

Tealightsandd · 28/09/2021 12:59

Are they also now referring to bodies with penises and prostates?

HeyDugeesCakeBadge · 28/09/2021 13:03

That statement has annoyed me even more now. Why can't women be centred for once? We have historically had all of those things that they refer to in trans healthcare but they once again centre the transgender community. Whilst I fully agree we need to focus on great healthcare for the LGBTQ community it smack of 'whataboutism', well what about women? When will we be heard?

I notice he doesn't mention that women also face stigma, discrimination, exclusion & poor health from sexist male doctors who who dismiss serious menstrual issues as "women's trouble" and misdiagnose heart attacks, cancer and other serious illness as "anxiety".

A key factor in this is that symptom summaries of serious illness are often based on how the disease manifests in men not women.

I wager there will be more women who die this year having been dismissed by doctors than trans, just from comparative numbers.

I would have more time for him if he had said - doctors should recognise that both women and trans people can be marginalised and we should work that neither group are discriminated against.

TatianaBis · 28/09/2021 13:05

Another aspect is medical racism - and poorer health outcomes for non-white patients.

No mention of that either.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 28/09/2021 13:19

Heh - no. Only a few days prior, they were talking about men and their prostate issues. Not "prostate havers", or "penis bodies" - but "men".
