What to do about dog poo woman?

FrankieDobie · 25/09/2021 07:47

There is a tiny elderly woman who walks her dogs past my house every morning. She’s quite well known due to the fact that she’s about 4ft and walks two giant Irish wolfhounds that are 3 times the size of her. Problem is she doesn’t pick up their shit. The dogs often poo right outside my house. I went out to speak to her last week and asked her nicely if she would mind picking up the dog poo and she smiled sweetly and said “I’m 86 dear, if I bent down there I’d never get back up again!” and walked off.
Anyway there was a post on the neighbourhood Facebook page about people leaving dog poo so I replied saying about this lady and was told I was out of order as she’s so elderly!?

WIBU to mention it or even approach her??

OP posts:

Maybe speak to Community Protection & they can have a word with her?

GoodnightGrandma · 25/09/2021 07:50

Report her to the council. If she can own dogs she needs to pick up their shit.
I’ve got a lady with a guide dog near me, even she picks up it’s pop.

GoodnightGrandma · 25/09/2021 07:50

*poo

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 25/09/2021 07:51

Buy her a present www.argos.co.uk/product/4909970

echt · 25/09/2021 07:52

Bollocks to that. Bag it up and drop it outside the house of the FB people who think you're out of order.

Mindthesheep · 25/09/2021 07:52

I think it’s fine you asked her and Of course she should pick it up. There are lots of long handled dog poop picker uppers so no need to bend down. Poor excuse by her.

Generallystruggling · 25/09/2021 07:53

You can buy scoops with a long handle so not being able to bend isn’t an excuse, she also shouldn’t have dogs if she feels incapable of clearing up after them. I’d report her to the council and if you pour pepper in front of your house the dogs will stop shitting there.

NapoleonOzmolysis · 25/09/2021 07:53

Report her to the dog warden.

Holidaytan · 25/09/2021 07:53

Give her one of those poo picker things so she doesn’t have to bend. It’s not acceptable.

megletthesecond · 25/09/2021 07:56

Community police officers should be able to sort it.
I had the same problem with an elderly man who was never picking up his dog poop. The police knocked all the doors in the street (I didn't know his house number) and sent letters to the whole block. They said that its tough if he's old, he still has to pick up.
He picks up now. I can see him when I WFH.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 25/09/2021 07:56

Why is it the OP's responsibility to buy her anything? Confused

whateveryousay · 25/09/2021 07:59

Or just buy some poo bags, and be kind, and go and help her out on the occasion they poo outside your house? I imagine that the dogs are very important to her, and reporting an 86 year old woman to the dog warden, with the stress this could cause her, sounds awful!! No, it’s not your job, but would take seconds out of your day??

PaulaTrilloe · 25/09/2021 08:00

Maybe bag it up and leave it on her doorstep? Hopefully Council will have words with her

burritofan · 25/09/2021 08:01

Shop her to the poo popo.

If she can’t bend down to pick up her dogs’ shit, she’s not able to have dogs. Owners don’t get to pick and choose which bits of dog ownership they take on.

Who are the 10% who think you’re BU?! The mad MN hound brigade?

girlmom21 · 25/09/2021 08:03

Report her to the council. Its her responsibility to clean up her dogs poo. Yeah, maybe she's old, but if she can handle two dogs of that size she can clean up after them.

Whywonttheyhelpme · 25/09/2021 08:05

Regardless of her age, she should take full responsibility for these animals. It is her choice to be a dog owner. If she can’t do it, then she should employ a dog walker who can. I too would speak to the community officer.

God I would struggle not to chuck it at her
WeatherwaxLives · 25/09/2021 08:13

If she doesn't want to pick up after them she should be making sure they go somewhere it only affects her, like her garden. But no doubt she doesn't want dog shit everywhere - surprise! Neither does anyone else!

Utterly outrageous to suggest OP should pick up after them.

Take photos of the dogs in the act and her walking away and leaving it and report to the council OP.

The dogs might be her only company would you really take that away from her just because she can't bend down ? That's wicked
Ozanj · 25/09/2021 08:15

Report it to the police and the rspca. A local man lost his dogs when he became too infirm to pick up his poo - he was too infirm to feed them consistantly too & the poor things were constantly howling for food.

whateveryousay · 25/09/2021 08:15

‘Utterly outrageous’ to suggest someone could be kind? Really?!
Of course OP doesn’t have to, her choice, but I would do it.

NonShallot · 25/09/2021 08:15

She basically can't be arsed is what she's telling you.

If she can't bend down to pick up the poo, how on earth is she strong/robust enough to be in full control of two big dogs like that?

I would report your concerns to the neighbour/community policing team in your area, voicing concerns regarding her ability to care for and control the dogs.

Shuffalo · 25/09/2021 08:17

Get her a pooper scooper

I actually can't believe what I'm reading in these replies. The amount of spiteful people on her is disgusting. She 86 for fucks sake her dogs must be her world. What the hell is wrong with people
AppleKatie · 25/09/2021 08:19

I think yanbu to approach her and you also wouldn’t be unreasonable to speak to the dog warden/community police.

Publicly shaming her on FB was unnecessary though and just feeding drama and whilst the situation needs dealing with not by an angry mob..
