What to do about dog poo woman?

There is a tiny elderly woman who walks her dogs past my house every morning. She’s quite well known due to the fact that she’s about 4ft and walks two giant Irish wolfhounds that are 3 times the size of her. Problem is she doesn’t pick up their shit. The dogs often poo right outside my house. I went out to speak to her last week and asked her nicely if she would mind picking up the dog poo and she smiled sweetly and said “I’m 86 dear, if I bent down there I’d never get back up again!” and walked off.
Anyway there was a post on the neighbourhood Facebook page about people leaving dog poo so I replied saying about this lady and was told I was out of order as she’s so elderly!?

WIBU to mention it or even approach her??

If she can walk those beasts she can bend the f down and clean up after them. At 86 she probably believes the law doesn’t apply to her.

Zatapec · 26/09/2021 22:51

If she's fit enough to own dogs, she's fit enough to pick up their poo! I have 2 dogs and rheumatoid arthritis, and struggle bending down, but I always pick up their poo, as it's my responsibility!

Bertiebiscuit · 26/09/2021 23:22

Report the evil old lady - to the council and the police, she is bang out of order and she knows it - getting dog poo on my shoe - or worse- makes me feel murderous tbh, it can cause blindness BTW

Kanaloa · 26/09/2021 23:24

@tickledtiger

she’s 86 and she doesn’t want to pick up dog crap any more… just let it go.
😂 can’t wait to be 86!

No officer, I’m 86 and I don’t want to comply with speed limits anymore. Let it go lovie, I am 86 you know.

Move please, I’m 86 and no longer want to wait in the queues at Aldi. Let me go first please sweetie, I’m 86, you know.

Plumtree391 · 26/09/2021 23:27

@Dnaltocs

We may be fortunate to reach 86. Hopefully our neighbours will be more forgiving. Let’s be kind.
I think the same and if a dog poo'd right outside my house, I'd pick it up in a plastic carrier and put it in my rubbish bin. However I doubt they do it in exactly the same place every day.

The little old lady probably likes to have big dogs to deter burglars.

It is difficult for some people to bend done and I'm sure that is the case for her otherwise she would.

Mamanyt · 26/09/2021 23:28

There are any number of poop scoopers available on Amazon. In deference to her age, which is considerable, I would consider ordering one for her, and presenting it to her. IF she won't take it, at least you've made cleaning up after HER dogs easier.

Schmoozer · 26/09/2021 23:29

Of course she’s capable of picking up dog Shit !! It’s not yoga or a bend and snap !!

If she can get her outdoor shoes on she can pick it up ! Oldies don’t like picking it up - never used to have to ! Report her - I would and have ! Old tit near me used to let her lab dump 3 times a day
Letter from local council dog warden and she’s scooping it up !!! Job done !

AzraiL · 27/09/2021 03:59

If she can't bend then how on earth does she refill their bowls of food and water? Does she jist drop it on them from where she stands?

TransGenderMummyOf2 · 27/09/2021 04:04

Being elderly is no excuse. If she is too old to pick up their feaces then she is too old to have dogs!

Darlingx · 27/09/2021 05:08

Around our area we have mainly caring dog owners but we have a guy that cycles with about 6 dogs on leads on the pavement. He’s an older man and I was confused is he a dog walker? It’s actually unfair on the dogs this stupidity. People that hang dog pooh bags up in trees need stringing up , Bin it and then people that think they are above picking up their mess it would be the same disregard if she threw rubbish because every walker knows the timing of their dogs movements . I was bitten by a Doberman because the walker had 4 dogs and she didn’t have them under full control. Being in ownership of a dog is a serious matter because of the harm bad ownership can cause. If dog licenses existed this lady would have to adapt to clean up the mess. If she can put on shoes to get outdoors she can adapt to clean up her dog mess she just needs educating on correct ownership. I follow the same with keeping the dog on the lead and making sure they wouldn’t jump up at the elderly or knock them down. The dogs deserve their owner to love them enough to clean up their unsocial fouling it’s part of dog ownership . If they are yours you own their shit it’s part and parcel of having a dog.

Anonmummyoftwo · 27/09/2021 07:30

Pretty sure if they shit on her doorstep this frail old woman would pick it up. If she’s able to walk these two big dogs she can pick the shit up.

Michellelovesizzy · 27/09/2021 07:42

I would say if u can't pick it up fair enough but there ur dogs and they to shit outside your house not mine

FiveShelties · 27/09/2021 07:52

Well done OP - I love a good 'Light blue touch paper and watch it go' thread. Who would think so many people would get upset at a poor little 4foot tall 86 year old lady walking two Irish Wolfhounds and not picking up poo.

Too funny

MyPatronusIsAPenguin · 27/09/2021 08:03

Someone started a post on FB complaining about dog poo but then you got flamed for naming her. They can't have it both ways. They either want people to clean up or they don't.

Just out of interest, what is the acceptable age to stop being a responsible dog owner? If she was 76 instead of 86 would that be okay? The day you turn 80? But not okay the day before? Hmm

Youhadmeathello1 · 27/09/2021 09:17

She may be elderly but if she is fit enough to walk two large dogs, she can pick up their poo!

CharityDingle · 27/09/2021 09:59

Fifteen pages and the OP didn't return to the thread. Hmm Biscuit

peppermintpat · 27/09/2021 10:35

If she doesn't pick up her dogs what on earth does her garden look/smell like???

rb124 · 27/09/2021 11:14

I can see both sides of the argument, but if this elderly lady has some sort of age related medical condition that means she genuinely cannot bend down, then there's not much that can be done. I'm aware of the long handled scoop things, but (assuming she's on a State Pension) she probably can't afford one - cheapest I found was £15, which is a lot of dosh for a pensioner.

Probably clean as a whistle! My neighbours dog won't poo in their garden and they have to walk her on the lead so far past their house to get her to go! They'd prefer it if she just would!

But feeding 2 wolfhounds is cheap?!
user1471447863 · 27/09/2021 12:31

the law applies to everyone. Dog shit is dog shit no matter who left it, pick it up or get rid of the dogs.

Why on earth would you assume she on a basic state pension.

I very much doubt it if she can afford to keep two giant dogs, the food bill alone would be huge and that's before you start on vet's bills and insurance.

I'm retired and if I had to subsist on my basic state pension there's no way I could afford to have my (small) dog.

She has 2 wolfhounds. They are a giant breed and probably cost double the cost of a scoop thing a week in food alone.
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 27/09/2021 13:17

I don’t see a problem with discussing her shoes.

Theresa May’s shoes were widely discussed.

The shoes are the least of Angela Rayner’s problems.,

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 27/09/2021 13:17

Sorry, wrong thread.
