AIBU to think I am the only woman with a pee-trigger area? *title edited by MNHQ at OP's request*

Posting here for traffic, also I can't find a suitable category within Talk.
-----

I have waited all my adult life to ask this question but never had contact with a big enough group of women! Mumsnet has come to my aid!

If anyone (including me) or anything touches the centre of the small of my back, just about where the bum-crack starts, I instantly feel that feeling you have when urgently you need to pee.

Even if I have just had a pee and thought everything was emptied out, let's say just before I get in the shower, if the flannel or loofah or my hand touches that spot, I instantly feel that "need-to-pee" feeling and if I let it, a bit of pee will always come out.

It's caused a bit of annoyance during sex over the years as sometimes that area might receive a caress or some pressure put on it. I then always have to stop and pee.

I've asked a few random friends if this happens to them and they said it did not.

At last I have the chance to ask a bigger group and find out whether or not I am completely unique in this!

Voting

IABU = no, you don't get that feeling

IANBU = yes, that also happens to you

No but if the inside of my elbow gets touched, I get an itchy tongue!

Wbeezer · 24/09/2021 11:12

I read your post and immediately thought, i bet its small of back, top of buttock cleft. It works on me, it's a ticklish, almost pleasurable feeling. Doesn't make me wet myself but does stimulate peeing and i only do it myself, never had anyone else do it.

pelosi · 24/09/2021 11:12

What a pain, OP! What happens if you’re lying / sleeping on your back, or leaning back in a chair with a back, does it press on your pee - trigger?

GoIntoTheLight · 24/09/2021 11:13

I have the same thing OP!! Funny, I always wondered if there were others out there. I’d wager there are more, too great a coincidence for it to be just us two.

Serenissima21 · 24/09/2021 11:13

I don't have that but I have a sensitive spot there. Sometimes (but not always) it feels horrible to be touched or touch there - like pins and needles, pain and doom! I guess there is a nerve there close to the surface?

Stillcrikey · 24/09/2021 11:13

Yep. Same pee-trigger area here.

Sometimes handy if I want to get to bed, don’t necessarily ‘need’ a wee at that point but if I don’t have a ‘last wee’ I’ll be up in the night.

I assumed everyone had one.

toothpicklover · 24/09/2021 11:14

Me to!! Very annoying when it gets itchy as I nearly piss myself 😂😂

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 24/09/2021 11:15

It’s a nerve, which must be particularly sensitive or sensitised in some way. Nerves controlling bladder and bowel originate in the lower spine and wrap round the body to the front. Spinal injuries in this area can cause incontinence; one of the symptoms of cauda equina, caused by pressure on the nerves from a bulging disc, is urinary or faecal incontinence.

So not a magic button, but an explicable process. If it gets worse I’d get it checked to be sure that it’s not caused by something which could cause permanent nerve damage.

No, that does not make it happen.

Same for me! Grin

Maskless · 24/09/2021 11:18

Wow I am so pleased to find I am not a unique freak..... already some others report the same phenomenon - plus we have an actual physiological explanation.

I'm glad I asked now!

YES I have this! If I can’t pee i can sort of gently scratch the area and it works!

TulipVictory · 24/09/2021 11:21

What!! Never heard of this in my life 😱

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 24/09/2021 11:24

It is so funny you mention this. God only knows why but I have a vivid memory of listening to Chris Evans breakfast show on the way to school one morning. Must have been around 1997. A lady who was a long distance lorry driver called in and I think they asked her about what to do if she needed a wee. And I remember her saying that before she set off, whether she needed one or not, she would tickle that spot at the base of her back and would always go for a wee! I’ve since discovered the same thing Grin

floweroverload · 24/09/2021 11:25

I've never heard of this, so weird! But so handy before long journeys

ThreeLittleDots · 24/09/2021 11:26

Yes! I tickle my lower back if I need to squeeze out a urine sample with a fairly empty bladder!

Maskless · 24/09/2021 11:42

Wow! It really is a "thing".

OP posts:
mamamalt · 24/09/2021 11:47

I have the same thing! Helps me go when I'm having stage fright!

HappyHippoWhatAMess · 24/09/2021 11:49

Not only is it a “thing”, but it’s a technique we use to get babies to pee for us in emergency departments!

dworky · 24/09/2021 11:52

Not that particular trigger but if ever I'm alone in an enclosed space (lift, small room etc) I not only want to pee but have to really concentrate on not allowing my bladder to release.
Also the sound of running water, which I believe is more common.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 24/09/2021 11:57

Not only this but if I scratch or poke around in my ear I have to cough.
Weird right?

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 24/09/2021 12:01

Imagining Mumsnet users sitting there feeling the tops of their bums to check! Grin And no, it doesn't happen for me!

Chocolatier9 · 24/09/2021 12:04

Is anyone else going to try this now?

GemmaRuby · 24/09/2021 12:05
