To think Ant and Dec belong in an episode of Black Mirror?

Does anyone else find them to be caricatures of themselves lately? And if you mention you don’t like them to people online (like on comments pages) their fans start bullying you. Like their fans seem properly brainwashed and really defensive.

This isn’t a personal attack on them, I just find them and their fan base very….odd.

I used to love them but they seem different lately. I much prefer Dec. But then I had a bit of a crush on his in Byker Grove.

MyPatronusIsACat · 22/09/2021 23:26

I like them. Always have done. Each to their own, but they're incredibly popular. YABU @Hihelp

Lasttimeneveragain · 22/09/2021 23:36

I found the second wedding in bad taste TBH. Isn't the new wife preggers as well? Or am I thinking of Jamie Redknapp?

I'm surprised they haven't been "cancelled" for their abilist portrayal of a blind person in Biker Grove.

Oh FFS, are you having a laugh?! Hmm You're really fucking reaching now.

PompomDahlia · 22/09/2021 23:42

I don't get the appeal. Suspect it's people who've grown up with them and find them safe and reassuring like a comfy pair of jeans. As a pp pointed out, it is a shame if they prevent new talent coming through or getting recognition

Shall we cancel Tom Hanks for playing Forrest Gump, Leonardo DiCaprio for playing an autistic teenager, Dustin Hoffman for playing an autistic man, James McAvoy for playing a disabled man in Rory O'Shea was here, Kevin McHale for playing a paraplegic high school student in Glee, Daniel Day Lewis for playing a man with cerebral palsy in My Left Foot? Tom Cruise for playing a paralysed Vietnam veteran? etc etc? Hmm

I like them but think they'd be great on Black Mirror!

iklboo · 23/09/2021 00:41

You can't convict or cancel someone on what 'might' have happened unless you have a Minority Report pre-cog on stand by.

Mercurial123 · 23/09/2021 05:16

@Limejuiceandrum

Come on They’re very good at their job. Very good. If you like them or not. The rest: well, not wort commenting on is it
I find them super boring, so we will have to disagree on that.

He drove when under the influence. That's a proven fact
Hihelp · 23/09/2021 10:05

They’re very good at their job. Very good.

Why did you have to emphasise “very good” like it’s going to make it true 😹😹😹

They’re shit at their job 😹. Try hards. and if they’re such good people, they’d be giving new presenters a leg up and promoting new people, after they’ve been on TV for eternity and have made millions. However, like I say, they live in their surreal little bubble.

It was in the Metro *@Sparklingbrook* Grin
I LOVE the Metro Grin

Totally agree OP - and the winning the NTA award for the last three hundred years (well thats what it feels like!). They stopped being funny after SMTV.

Lincslady53 · 23/09/2021 10:20

They are going the same way as Michael Barrymore. We saw MB early in his career in panto in Coventry and he was very funny, audience in the palm of his hand, charismatic and an excellent entertainer. Didn't see him again until just before his fall, when we went to see him at Blackpool. It was the strangest show I have ever been to. The theatre had loads of his fans, people swooning, throwing flowers and trying to get on the stage. Some Ant and Dec fans are the same, can't see the flaws through their rose tinted specs. Dangerous ground for them.

LukeEvansWife · 23/09/2021 11:33

And if Operation Yew Tree taught us nothing else, shouldn't it be obvious that nobody should hold that much power within the organisation.

See I didn’t want to go down that avenue and I’m not saying at all a&d are like that, but completely agree; no celeb should have that much power/adulation.

LukeEvansWife · 23/09/2021 22:55

Oh I am not implying anything like that about them either Blush But these companies never learn

SharonasCorona · 23/09/2021 23:40

I have found my people!

I’ve never watched an episode of I’m a Celebrity.

I’ve never watched an Britain’s Got Talent (or X Factor)

I’ve never watched Saturday Night Takeaway

I thought I didn’t get it because I wasn’t born in the UK!

Hihelp · 24/09/2021 07:05

No @SharonasCorona, there are some enlightened people who were born here who don’t get them either. Wink

OP posts:
Cactus1982 · 24/09/2021 07:55

I think their relationship has changed over the last few years and they don’t seem as natural together or as ‘tight’ as they used to. I believe Dec is the nicer of the two and I’d imagine he was pretty pissed off with Ant for the whole drink driving thing.

Nah it's okay. I was born in the UK and would rather stick pins in my eyes than watch any of those programmes. They are prime examples of the dumbed down shit that has always been ITV's forte.
Againstmachine · 24/09/2021 18:46

ITV is terrible, always amuses me that they pay Simon cowell for his shows, he ought to be paying them as there is nowhere else he can take them, BBC won't do it and sky channels wouldn't get the figures required so why are ITV paying millions.
Same with ant and Dec they can go elsewhere but slowly disappear.

NursieBernard · 24/09/2021 18:54

I really can't see what all the fuss is about them. They certainly aren't anything special.

SharonasCorona · 24/09/2021 19:08

@Hihelp @LukeEvansWife

This makes me so happy!! I can dislike them even more now 😂
