To think Ant and Dec belong in an episode of Black Mirror?

Does anyone else find them to be caricatures of themselves lately? And if you mention you don’t like them to people online (like on comments pages) their fans start bullying you. Like their fans seem properly brainwashed and really defensive.

This isn’t a personal attack on them, I just find them and their fan base very….odd.

Like Morcambe and Wise but without the talent.

vastgrandupgrade · 21/09/2021 11:25

I also don’t see why the wedding was “pathetic”?

And Philip Schofield’s wife doesn’t appear to feel she’s been humiliated. Where are you getting this from?

HarebrightCedarmoon · 21/09/2021 11:26

I find them ok, very professional and polished when I see them on TV, they are my age and have been around most of my life. Not sure why they attract such approbation or why people need to start threads about them. They are pretty easy to avoid TBH, unless you are a tabloid-reading numpty.

vastgrandupgrade · 21/09/2021 11:26

I’m not particularly a fan of them btw, but I just find these threads being this nasty a bit weird. You can just choose not to watch them.

RiotAtTheRodeo · 21/09/2021 11:27

I manage to avoid any of the programmes they're on so I don't particularly hate them but I am bemused by them, The fact they've won some 'best TV presenters' award for the past 75 years seems peculiar. Although I'm assuming if it's an ITV awards show and they're ITV presenters, maybe not all that peculiar...

Wotwhywhen · 21/09/2021 11:28

I don't know how they've amassed such vast fortunes from presenting shit TV to idiots, seems unfair they have so much when far more necessary people have so little, but I actively avoid watching them as much as possible so they don't overly bother me.

Tlollj · 21/09/2021 11:33

They’re a bit past their sell by date I think. Not my cup of tea, I thought the award they keep winning is voted for by the public? So someone likes them.
Phillip Scofield is awful.

I was going to say they are in massive high profile ad campaigns at the moment, but decided to google it and found out their last contract with ITV is worth £30 million for 3 years… so there you have it. Grin
PyjamaMamma · 21/09/2021 11:51

Sorry, just looked again to confirm, it’s actually £40 million.

VladmirsPoutine · 21/09/2021 11:54

I can't believe they've won best presenters or whatever it is for 20 years. There was a discussion on here I think a while ago about the lack of general talent that we tend to lose to America and this is in huge part because we can't embrace change/ new things. FFS they've even remade Spitting Image!

Wotwhywhen · 21/09/2021 11:54

@PyjamaMamma

Reports suggest they're worth £62m each.. It's an obscene amount of money for contributing little of real value to society. They save no lives, they develop no medicines, they perform no surgeries etc.
PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 21/09/2021 11:56

I'd rather watch Ant and Dec than Katharine Ryan or A J melbalike on every bloody show.
That said, A&D aren't good in those ridiculous adverts for the bank, and were much better years ago. I might be viewing with nostalgia for PJ and Duncan 😀

Hihelp · 21/09/2021 15:13

See I DO avoid watching them! I don’t watch ITV. But what’s wrong with indulging in a bit of crap reading every so often?! My job revolves around reading scientific stuff. Maybe I want to read the Metro (online!) or some other junk in my spare time? I don’t think I’m a numpty for reading junk Hmm

Anyway, MN wouldn’t be very interesting if we didn’t post things about our likes or dislikes. Find it odd when people tell you to avoid doing something to avoid something. Perhaps those people shouldn’t come on a thread that is clearly about something/someone they don’t agree with?

Anyway. Glad there’s many of you agreeing that A&D are odd.

Actually, it’s difficult not to have them in your face. They are everywhere. If you want to avoid them, there’s a whole lot of stuff you avoid. I might have been interested in the interview they did for the Princes Trust, nope, had to avoid it. They dominate prime time TV and other channels tend to avoid doing anything meaningful up against them, so the choice is poor. BGT can be an interesting programme but I just can’t watch it. I tried to catch up watching online videos on you tube but inevitably you have their childish drivel and silly gurning faces as they jump about like demented pixies. Then there are those bloody stupid adverts, then they are popping up on the news. I haven’t watched an Ant and Dec TV programme since SMTV, other than one attempt at that puerile Saturday takeaway thing and yet, still I end up having to see them. “Just turn it off” is a ridiculous comment.

Againstmachine · 22/09/2021 22:16

I do I don't watch it as it's the worst channel on TV.

Unfortunately the cretins pop up on adverts that are meant to be amusing but are as stale as rest of the act.

I still don’t know which one is which.

Greentrianglesarethebestones · 22/09/2021 22:33

I like them. Blush

Wotwhywhen · 22/09/2021 22:34

@YesIDoLoveCrisps

I still don’t know which one is which.
Here's a little rhyme to help you:

Fore head Ant,
Short arse Dec.

PyjamaMamma · 22/09/2021 22:53

@YesIDoLoveCrisps

I still don’t know which one is which.
I’ve been told they always stand in an Ant-and-Dec order and so far it’s always been correct when I cared to notice.
Peggytheredhen · 22/09/2021 23:03

I never hear about/see Ant and Dec so disagree that it's hard not to. To me they are PJ and Duncan. I do think they would make good characters in a Black Mirror though.

Limejuiceandrum · 22/09/2021 23:03

Come on
They’re very good at their job. Very good.
If you like them or not.
The rest: well, not wort commenting on is it

Againstmachine · 22/09/2021 23:08

They aren't good at their job, it's a stale predictable act, oh Arnt we checky Georgie chappy's.

ITV is pathetic you have all the usual suspects on this morning. There must be more talent available.

Limejuiceandrum · 22/09/2021 23:11

Being good at your job is one thing they absolutely are
Liking them or not is personal taste
And I don’t like them AT ALL

dryasaboner · 22/09/2021 23:17

I don't get it.
Surely being on tv is a massively privileged position so the channels should absolutely crack down on anyone who drink drives and he should never have been allowed on tv again. Anything else looks like they condone it
