So sorry I can't use the vote (haven't a clue how to do it)
The questions is clear.. A simple yes or no..... After the Queen dies should the Royal Family continue... Yes or no!

OP posts:

Yes

AuntMasha · 17/09/2021 18:16

Not a royalist myself but I think it will continue in a more slimmed down capacity. I don’t think Charles will be king, but have a feeling the crown will go to William, who will be instrumental in carrying out a much-needed modernisation of the institution.

Clocktopus · 17/09/2021 18:20

Charles will be king, he's been waiting his whole life so isn't going to pass up the opportunity for the crown. The Queen is 95 so realistically he's going to be King sooner rather than later.

Boilingicicle · 17/09/2021 18:21

No. Not that we get to choose.

MajorCarolDanvers · 17/09/2021 18:21

Yes keep the royals.

I don't want a president Trump or Sturgeon instead.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 17/09/2021 18:22

I just can't imagine Prince Charles persuading Brits to gird their loins in a time of crisis. The Queen has that stalwart spirit, or can project it, and her Corona speeches had a certain regal flintiness that I can't see Charles - or for that matter Boris - emulating.

It'll probably be a case of monarchy-lite if/when Charles becomes king.

SunbathingDragon · 17/09/2021 18:23

I think the process should begin now, as it’s quite lengthy, but ultimately I believe enough people would prefer to keep them and they are likely to stay (for a while at any rate).

I know Charles is chomping at the bit to be king, but I just can’t see it happening— this is based on nothing more than a wotIreckon gut feeling, mind you.

Are you talking about the Royal family or the monarchy?

If we have learnt anything from Brexit, it's that an alternative needs to be in place before anyone starts deciding to do away with things. We would still need a head of state who would need to have roles and responsibilities and there are a lot of different ways of doing this, one of which is a monarch. The Head of State would still need some where to live, police protection, etc etc They would also need a defined role.

I think there is a lot of confusion around about what the monarch actually is and how that is different from the Royal family.

MariaAngustias · 17/09/2021 18:40

No we should be a democratic Republic - no royals, no titles and an elected second chamber. Won't happen but should.

Dontwatchfootball · 17/09/2021 18:42

No. Waste of time and money, dont add anything to the life of the country except to act as a diversion from time to time.

Livingtothefull · 17/09/2021 18:49

No.

Could have an elected head of state like Ireland.

Simon Cowell could organise a 'Rex Factor' contest. Louis Walsh could be there to say 'You made that royal wave your own' and 'You were born to be a Queen'.

An opportunity for gossip and diversion in these difficult times?

Pixxie7 · 17/09/2021 19:06

No Boris is already acting as a dictator can you imagine if he had even more power. As far as Prince Charles is concerned it is his birthright, he has some positive ideas ok William and Kate would be a more attractive choice but we have no real idea how he would reign.

Jaysmith71 · 17/09/2021 19:10
