Peg the Patriarchy

AICM · 14/09/2021 20:15

A top.model went to the Met Gala wearing a top that says Peg (meaning fuck- sort of) the Patriarchy.

AIBU to think this is a little like biting the hand that feeds.

She is a multi millionaire purely because she is thin and pretty and conforms to the Patriarchy's view of what a women should look like.

The Patriarchy has rewarded her for looks and she is enjoying a lavish lifestyle no doubt.

What is her problem with the Patriarchy?

I thought it was pretty good actually. She is called Cara Delavign (spelling is dodgy, sorry) and there's a bit more to her than being famous for being skinny. I'm also pretty sure she's more in to women than men.

Glugglejug · 14/09/2021 20:21

Is this post a joke? Are you actually saying women who model don’t experience sexism?

Get a fucking grip.

AICM · 14/09/2021 20:22

The Patriarchy has made her rich.

OP posts:
Glugglejug · 14/09/2021 20:23

So you ARE saying that women who model don’t experience sexism.

Again, get a grip.

icebearforpresident · 14/09/2021 20:23

‘The Patriarchy has made her rich.‘

Yes, but she also realises it screws most of us over. Good for her.

Personally I preferred AOC and her tax the rich dress.

SlamLikeAGuitar · 14/09/2021 20:24

You dropped this Biscuit

DoThePropeller · 14/09/2021 20:24

We are all victims of patriarchy, it doesn’t mean you can’t criticise it as s system. Cara Delevigne is very outspoken on women’s rights, good for her for using her platform.

RealBecca · 14/09/2021 20:27

She's not a multimillionaire because shes thin and pretty. Have you googled her?

Futurecatmum2 · 14/09/2021 20:27

What is her problem with the Patriarchy?

Um… well I don’t know, sexual harassment, unequal pay, men’s rights activists erasing women’s safe spaces, massive global sex inequalities… is a model not allowed to object to these things or is that just for short-haired lesbians who don’t shave their armpits, OP? Hmm

AICM · 14/09/2021 20:27

Fair enough. She has a rich dad.

CD seems like bloody good fun. Always goofing out, pulling stupid faces and generally taking the piss out of herself. More Caras please!

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 14/09/2021 20:30

I understand what you mean, OP, and I agree with you.

VladmirsPoutine · 14/09/2021 20:31

A pseudo rape threat wrapped up in girl boss feminism. Activism du jour.

Lessthanaballpark · 14/09/2021 20:31

The patriarchy is like a stupid selfish man child on a date. You may look at him and think what an arrogant tosser he is and what a waste of your time this date is, but you may as well get a free meal and a shag out of it.

Which is what CD is doing.

EishetChayil · 14/09/2021 20:31

Bit rich (heh) coming from her - she's descended from landed gentry.

EishetChayil · 14/09/2021 20:32

She seems like a bloody nightmare, to be honest.

TractorAndHeadphones · 14/09/2021 20:33

YANBU OP. But what

TractorAndHeadphones · 14/09/2021 20:34

Atu

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 14/09/2021 20:36

You may look at him and think what an arrogant tosser he is and what a waste of your time this date is, but you may as well get a free meal and a shag out of it.

Or you might think: 'I don't want to send the message that being an arrogant tosser is OK as long as you fork out for my meal, and I don't enjoy sex without my brain being at least slightly engaged with my partner, so I'm going to walk away.'

TractorAndHeadphones · 14/09/2021 20:40

@EishetChayil

Exactly. Why do you care what she says OP? You sort of have a point - but most celebs are hypocrites. The amount they give to charity is minuscule compared to how they (like other rich people) arrange their assets to pay the least amount of tax possible. 'Tax planning' as they call it. I wonder what they thought of AOC Grin

The only one worthy of respect so far is Adele. Was quietly at Grenfell as an ordinary person, no need to pull ridiculous stunts.

katemuff · 14/09/2021 20:42

She was rich waaaaaaaayyyyy before she was a model. And Weinstein tried to rape her so she can say what she wants about the patriarchy.

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/09/2021 20:44

When I was a young, beautiful feminist, rather than the humourless hag I'm happy to have turned into, I knew I had a platform. Men would listen to me when they wouldn't listen to other women. It was unfair and shit. But I didn't get the 'you're only angry because you're [insert insult]'.

Cara is a good actress and seems to be capable of understanding the patriarchy while operating within it, as most of us do. I perform femininity in some places because it makes my life easier and I'm not fighting through treacle for the slightest crumbs. I pick my battles.

BingoLingFucker · 14/09/2021 20:45

YANBU.
This is the state of liberal feminism.
Criticise the patriarchy whilst simultaneously propping it up.

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/09/2021 20:47

Contrast with the vile misogynistic bike coming from Machine Gun Kelly. Envy

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 14/09/2021 20:47

Pegging is consensual and enjoyed by the peg-ee, so I'm not sure it makes any sense as anything more than a t-shirt slogan, but anyone who "makes it" in conventional terms in this world does so off the back of the patriarchy, so I've got no intrinsic problems with a model criticising it.
