Peg the Patriarchy

A top.model went to the Met Gala wearing a top that says Peg (meaning fuck- sort of) the Patriarchy.

AIBU to think this is a little like biting the hand that feeds.

She is a multi millionaire purely because she is thin and pretty and conforms to the Patriarchy's view of what a women should look like.

The Patriarchy has rewarded her for looks and she is enjoying a lavish lifestyle no doubt.

What is her problem with the Patriarchy?

The Met Gala is ridiculous. Ignore it!

@MrsTerryPratchett

BTW Carnival Row is good with her and Orloondo Bland. Watching it will doubtless add to her fortune and oppress us 'real women' further.
Matter of opinion. Bored the pants off me.

Everyone’s an activist nowadays, donchano? None of the celebrities have real jobs nowadays. They all exist to make the world a better place for us. Isn’t this ‘model’ someone whose got where she is because of her rich and famous father.
I mean what next? Harry and Meghan telling us that they run towards the struggle? Oh sorry, they already did that.
Total idiots. I wonder if these people know how ridiculous they sound.

I don't know the lass personally, she's probably lovely, but that top achieves nothing except publicity for her.

It's great if the wealthy want to do something for others but LARPing as an 'activist' isn't that.

I’m not desperate about the message-seems to say that there’s fucking and being fucked and somehow there’s something lesser and demeaning about being fucked… like, ‘how funny to demean the patriarchy’.
I’m not expressing myself well but it feels wrong.
No opinion about the woman concerned as I wouldn’t know her from Eve.

mustlovegin · 17/09/2021 08:50

So any woman who finds some advantages in the system that we live in has no right to criticise any aspects of that system?

Biting the hand that feeds you. Hypocritical and ungrateful at the same time. I have a massive problem with this behaviour (though I have no views on this woman as such)

It wasn't until I came to live in the UK that I first noticed people who despised other people because they were privileged. What is shocking is their vehemence. Instead of being ashamed of their nastiness, they speak openly, as if they expect everyone else to share their outrage.

Growing up, I would have just thought of the privileged, oh they're rich, that must be very nice, I wonder if I can be a bit like that one day. Even now that I'm as well-off as I'm ever likely to be, I don't really have a spare brain-cell that I can be bothered to devote to those with materially better lives. They're are as relevant to me as a non-descript tree I might pass on a random road.
