OP posts:
bocodilloconqueso · 05/09/2021 21:11

What channel is it on?

Nightsaredrawingin · 05/09/2021 21:20

@bocodilloconqueso It’s on HBO

Is this the Allen vs Ferrell one ?

MrsKeats · 05/09/2021 21:21

I know it's astonishing.

TrampolineForMrKite · 05/09/2021 21:27

I don’t think he did what this is accusing him of though. He’s a weird dude and his behaviour towards Farrow and Previn’s adopted daughter that he subsequently married was clearly weird and questionable, but he’s been exonerated of the crime towards Dylan Farrow.

I came away from this documentary with more questions than answers.

lljkk · 05/09/2021 21:27

Could also read what Moses Farrow has said. You know, for balance.

Nightsaredrawingin · 05/09/2021 21:27

@orangesnapples Yes, I’m only on the second episode, I’d heard bits about things about the adopted daughter, but..wow, how has this been able to happen

OP posts:
Nightsaredrawingin · 05/09/2021 21:29

@lljkk I’m only on the second episode, but surely marrying his daughter is enough

Soon-Yi was the daughter of his partner -- partner in off-on relationship. WA makes clear he never saw most of MF's kids as his kids. Only Ronan is his son, really. Rest were hers alone.

I find it all very weird but 30 years later of successful relationship, Soon-Yi could have walked away from marriage to WA at any time. Rinsed him for millions & sold her story for lots money, too. Instead, they adopted & raised children together. Only Soon-Yi knows if the situation was abusive --and she clearly doesn't see it that way.

is there a single story of any of SY & WA's friends tattling on how unhappy they are, how dysfunctional? No. By all accounts, they have a stable contented marriage.

Plus Mia Farrow is equally very weird and unreliable. I've parked the whole story in "Weird as ..." category, not something I can ever have full picture on.

He knew Soon-Yi from when she was a little little kid and he was her father figure. That is enough. It's not surprising to me that Soon-Yi has never walked away - Woody was her first "boyfriend". Confused The poor woman was groomed from childhood.
Nightsaredrawingin · 05/09/2021 21:41

It’s all very weird…what’s weird about Mia?

OP posts:
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 05/09/2021 21:43

He was exonerated? I didn't hear that. If he wasn't in SY's life or a father figure it is different but still incredibly weird.

Nightsaredrawingin · 05/09/2021 21:47

@Zeev It’s so wrong!

I don't know the ins and outs but I do know the documentary did receive some criticism for how it presented the case e.g. -

donquixotedelamancha · 05/09/2021 21:48

he’s been exonerated of the crime towards Dylan Farrow

In what sense. That the police at the time didn't properly investigate a child abuse case against a hugely successful director is hardly proof.

FrippEnos · 05/09/2021 21:53

There is a lot missing from the program.

Nightsaredrawingin · 05/09/2021 22:01

But how could she have made it up? There are so many accounts from different people

Nightsaredrawingin · 05/09/2021 22:01

@FrippEnos Like what?

Nightsaredrawingin · 05/09/2021 22:03

I’m onto the part where Dylan was a child and Mia videoed her speaking, how was he not done for this, I’m shocked

That's just not true. Allen has not been exonerated at all.

The trial didn't go ahead because the judge decided it would not be in Dylan's best interests to do so. Watch the episode where the judge apologises to Dylan.

That is the very opposite of exoneration.

donquixotedelamancha · 05/09/2021 22:11

how was he not done for this

Mia was a bit nuts and not a perfect mum. Fundamentally there was enough concern that she might have coached Dylan as revenge for shagging her other daughter that the police didn't feel they could proceed.

FrippEnos · 05/09/2021 22:15

Nightsaredrawingin

There were statements missed out, inaccuracies and something about coaching.

Its a long time since I watched it and looked into the whole story.

Chartreuse45 · 05/09/2021 22:28

I don't think that Soon-Yi did see him as a father figure. Wasn't her adoptive father Andre Previn? She had his surname. Even when WA and MF were together they lived in separate apartments, her on the west side with the children, him on the east side alone. The whole set up was definitely out of the ordinary so I think we'll never know exactly what happened and how the relationships were.

dayswithaY · 05/09/2021 22:28

I believe Dylan. If Mia had coached her as a child she wouldn't still be going along with it now. Her body language towards Mia is awkward and distant.

Allen is a disgrace. Doesn't matter that Soon-Yi was his girlfriend's daughter and not his actual stepchild, it's wrong on every level.

Nightsaredrawingin · 05/09/2021 22:31

Dylan’s body language to Mia is distant?
