Did you go up the scale to a premium large car like an SUV

Or did you jack it in and get an S Mac type thing?

I hate driving anything other then an Audi or VW

I've just got a brand new A6.. pregnant

Have a 5 year old and 2 year old

MultiMac? What do I do?

Bought a Ford galaxy, best thing I did. It was fantastic. Loads of space and room for Nana!

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 02/09/2021 14:05

I’ve not been in this position, but if budget is an issue with a bigger car then Seat and Skoda both make SUVs, are essentially VWs in a different outfit; they drive identically to the equivalent VW and offer the same reliability.

I would never drive either, but you’re going to need something bigger than an A6.

Pleasedontputthatthere · 02/09/2021 14:05

We went S max but we love camping and are not bothered about fancy cars at all so probably not the right person to ask.

Obbydoo · 02/09/2021 14:08

Excellent fishing trip OP, excellent!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 02/09/2021 14:24

My exh just upgraded to a saloon car when he has his third child, so not quite sure what the problems is Confused

He’s got that big Skoda that looks like the equivalent Audi and is apparently made by them.

Don’t really know the ins and outs as it’s my ex but I’ve obviously seen what car he drives.

TheVolturi · 02/09/2021 14:26

🤣🤣🤣

fugginhell · 02/09/2021 14:28

Following because I'm in the exact same position as you 🤣 apart from A6

We're looking at a Peugeot 5008 but it's near enough a mini bus or the Audi Q7 is nice

Sounds like a Skoda Superb - all the VAG cars use one of the VAG platforms so are basically the same, Skoda just chooses to give more room. I hate driving anything other then an Audi or VW SEAT and Skoda are also effectively VW/Audi - the mechanical bits are the same, you're just paying extra for the badge.

Maybe expand your horizons a bit. We have a Prius which is a dream drive, knocks spots off either of those.

Roof box?

Bamaluz · 02/09/2021 14:44

It should be possible to fit three car seats in an A6, it's not a small car. You might have to buy new narrow seats though, depending on what you have already.

We were in your position OP. DH refuses to drive anything except BMW, Audi etc - he hates the people carrier type cars.

We had a BMW 5 series. Now have an Audi Q7. Very happy with it. Amazing safety rating and Isofix in every seat (except driver of course). Personally I was only interested in safety but DH was very sad to let the BMW go - he likes the Q7 too!

We did look at multimac but I wasn’t happy with side impact protection plus decided it would be handy to be able to have 7 seats so we can squeeze in another adult (MIL usually) or kids’ friends if needed to take them somewhere.

1forAll74 · 02/09/2021 15:12

I would buy a transit van, not white though, and have all seats arranged in the back, and a sliding perspex window behind the drivers seats, to block out the noise from all people/ children in the back. All the kids and dogs and troublesome Mil's can sit in the back, there will be enough room for any luggage, kids toys and the dogs bowls etc, Children generally love vans, as they can get messy if they wan't to in the back of the big van.

Berkeys · 02/09/2021 15:18

Our saloon already fits three car seats! Tesla model s.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 02/09/2021 15:29

@1forAll74 are you my husband? He spent the whole bank holiday weekend trying to convince me to buy a van 😄. I think all that sounds brilliant, especially the perspex panel.

3kidsinacar · 02/09/2021 15:35

I thought about a transporter

Please don't say they are the same i had a seat attecca for a few weeks and I was not happy with it it's not the same

This isn't a thread to be slagged off which is why I changed names

Urgh the Q7 will be so expensive!!

Interesting point on the side impact it's a priority for me that the boys are safe.

But I won't be able to get three seats side by side in the back so I have to get either a car with another row of seats OR I have to get three narrow seats (also up for this)

Galaxy is interesting I would actually have one but they are honestly more expensive to lease which is what we do then the A6!!

I've driven and like Skoda but don't rate SEAT at all it's of course not just a badge but the suspension, too.

Thanks these are actually less harsh replies then I thought I would get

LOL

hibbledibble · 02/09/2021 15:45

Kept the car.

You can fit 3 Sears across if they are the right seats.

Or put the oldest child at the front, and an adult between younger 2 at the back.

Delphigirl · 02/09/2021 15:48

The answer I’m afraid is xc90. The good news is you can get an electric one. The thing about three kids is that it very often means 5 (play dates etc) so you really need a 7-seater. I refused to go down the minivan route because eurgh and the xc90 is very very good at doing what it does. Q7 just too massive for me (massive outside and seemingly less room inside surprisingly)
The good news is they aren’t small for ever and once I stopped ferrying them around as early teens I bought a 911. Cling onto that thought.

BarbaraofSeville · 02/09/2021 16:15

It's a shame that cars are so recognisable because Seat, Audi, Skoda and VW would be perfect for a debadged Eat Well for Less type comparison to watch people try and justify why they must have the £50k car instead of the almost identical £30k car that many people think is better anyway, or at the very least given the choice between the £50k car and the £30k car plus £20k in cold hard cash, almost everyone would pick the latter.

OP, maybe people wouldn't slag you off so much if you didn't come across as being up yourself so much Smile.

BarbaraofSeville · 02/09/2021 16:18

So if you like the Skoda Superb, get one of those, I don't see the issue.

It's what all the smart people do these days. Audi are just too try hard and most people are far from impressed by them.

A Skoda Superb is driven by someone who is confident, knows their own mind and can see beyond the badge.

poorbuthappy · 02/09/2021 16:20

granted I had twins, so had 2 of the massive car seats at the same time as a high backed booster for my 4 year old, but life will be easier with 3 separate seats in the back for each seat.
The middle seat on most cars - even the big cars are not big enough for anyone to sit comfortably in.
We've had a touran, galaxy and smax.

BarbaraofSeville · 02/09/2021 16:20

You could always rehome one of the other children to make room for the new one. Then you wouldn't have to make such difficult decisions about a car. You just have to decide which is your least favourite child instead Smile
