Did you go up the scale to a premium large car like an SUV

Or did you jack it in and get an S Mac type thing?

I hate driving anything other then an Audi or VW

I've just got a brand new A6.. pregnant

Have a 5 year old and 2 year old

MultiMac? What do I do?

Saloon car was just about manageable while dc3 was in the trug-style carseat. We moved to a Ford Galaxy when dc3 outgrew it. It was an excellent choice. Dh liked driving VWs, but I didn't. I liked driving Volvos, but dh didn't. The Galaxy was an excellent compromise in terms of driving enjoyment. In terms of design for a family, the one improvement it could have had was to have sliding doors.

But glamourous? Nope.

We started with a Range Rover sport but that was quite small inside. We've now got a Vogue which has plenty of room for three kids and is the best car I've ever been in. If you need more boot space the new disco or the defender 😍

Hankunamatata · 02/09/2021 22:39

We ended up with a van, best purchase ever

Sell the child on eBay. Problem solved.

Guineapigbridge · 02/09/2021 22:45

Tesla model X

MissCruellaDeVil · 02/09/2021 22:45

I ended up with a Range Rover. I actually prefer the high up position for driving and it's still quite fast. Obviously no match for my old sports car, but it fits the kids, DH and dog in just fine and is still a premium car.

Guineapigbridge · 02/09/2021 22:45

Or, for downrange snobs the VW Sharan is a practical car.

We had a BMW 5 series and did consider a multimac but was concerned about the safety of it and the children being in close proximity. Also can’t use car seat as pushchair. Just basically thought it would be too cramped. So we have got a Q7 which fits three seats across the middle row and all seats behind drivers row have isofix. Like it so far but baby is only a week old!

Charbead49 · 02/09/2021 22:51

We had a BMW 5 series. Now have an Audi Q7. Isofix on every seat and same level of premium

You asked about Touran car seats. We had no problem at all, but our eldest is almost 20 now, so car seats back then may have been smaller? We started with 1 rear facing, 1 forward facing and 1 high backed booster, then gradually they were all in high backed boosters, till they weren't. There is very little boot space when all 7 seats are in use though. As for reliability, our first Touran was an 05 reg. We sold that 2 years ago and it was only in the last 2 years that it needed more spending on it. The new one is a 17 reg, and its lovely, with way more bells and whistles than our previous one. If I'd had room to go larger, I would have looked at alternatives (poss the sharan with its sliding doors), but I regularly have to drive through a narrow gate, so the Touran with its narrower footprint suited us well. Also it fits in car park spaces more easily than some cars of its type. But all 7 seats are properly usable, unlike many cars like it.

As someone with 4DC now aged 5-13, I can confidently say that you are not going to enjoy driving anything if your small passengers are not happy.

We gave up the A4 when DC3 came along for a Ford Galaxy. Yes, we look like we've given up, but with 4DC we largely have! It's a doddle to drive, can separate the children on long journeys and fit all of us plus three cats. Also great for giving lifts.

(Also had a Skoda superb as a second car along the way and wholeheartedly agree with all the positives - would have another like a shot).
