Did you go up the scale to a premium large car like an SUV

Or did you jack it in and get an S Mac type thing?

I hate driving anything other then an Audi or VW

I've just got a brand new A6.. pregnant

Have a 5 year old and 2 year old

MultiMac? What do I do?

SEAT and Skoda are also effectively VW/Audi - the mechanical bits are the same, you're just paying extra for the badge.

Just looked on e-bay, badges are the same price

therealhoppityvoosh · 02/09/2021 18:54

We have a VW Tiguan Allspace. Family of 4 but wanted a 7 seater to be able to take parents out with us easily. I'm not sure it's amazing for a family of 5 but you can put certain booster seats in the third row. If you're set on a VW then I'd recommend considering it but truthfully there are better 7 seaters if you regularly need to use all the seats. We don't so an occasional 7 seater like this is perfect for us.

Oh FFS. Skoda and Seat are the same as VW/ Audi. I grew up in a VW/Audi owning family

Couldn’t pay me enough to drive a modern VAG shitter.

WhyDoesItAlways · 02/09/2021 19:06

Have you looked at the cupra's? I don't know if any would be suitable but they are part of the VW group and you may prefer to the Seat's.

But if PP is right and you can get 3 seats in a Tesla I would do that. I've driven Tesla and VW and there is no comparison. You can get good lease deals on electric if you are self employed or have salary sacrifice scheme.

wonkylegs · 02/09/2021 19:14

We went from an Audi saloon - great drive, terrible customer service and the most uncomfortable seats known to man to a 7seater Landrover Discovery Sport. Didn't regret it one bit. Although I know that LR doesn't have the best reputation for reliability. We've not had any issues with it bar a software problem which they fixed. Whilst it was being fixed they dropped off a lease car which was a better spec than we had and I loved that too.
The only problem is the sat nav is a little eccentric and loves tiny little country roads but you get used to it oh and the tires are expensive but they were on the Audi too so not really that much of an issue.

wonkylegs · 02/09/2021 19:17

OP The disco sport is fairly similar to the vogue but has more space inside for not much difference outside and is better value

3kidsinacar · 02/09/2021 19:51

@wonkylegs they are the biggest bastards ever at Audi totally rude and disgraceful. After the last a6 I said no more Audi's ever again.

Got a VW again and then.. yes you guessed it
Another Audi 🤣

Very interesting point about cabin space on a vogue v a disco sport, not the disco disco? That looks like a heavy lump to pull around (disclaimer I love them) but I'm 5ft 1 how does it go getting your children in the back?

I would take a break down with good service over the bastards at Audi

But man that Audi drives better then a seat. I know because I've used both. Would consider a cupra but again it's just going to be a high up SUV unless their is it called an Alehambra you know their sharan equivalent, drives exactly like a sharan.

I will be making trips across Europe in it so I don't want something not nice to drive

3kidsinacar · 02/09/2021 19:51

We are self employed so that's a good shout on the Tesla

I think it's the model P my neighbour got its very nice it's a good size

OP posts:
3kidsinacar · 02/09/2021 19:52

Sorry it's an S I don't know anything about them except they are always driven by die hard fans and I think once you go Tesla you don't go back

I will look into them

Wonder where I can get a test drive

BrendaBubbles · 02/09/2021 19:52

VW premium lol. Certainly no more than a Ford and they are fab.

idontlikealdi · 02/09/2021 20:25

Vogue, disco sport, all of that ilk are bloody tiny inside.

If you truly want to transport 3 kids and all the paraphernalia that goes with the (plus pets, friends and all their shit etc) you need a fugly practical vehicle and then get a nice one for when you've got one or no kids with.

I'd get a proper LR if I could afford the fuel.

Shinytaps · 02/09/2021 20:26

If I had the money I’d get an XC90.

Don’t get a Multimac. They aren’t comfy for the kids and I was worried about the safety of them.

We have a Touran for high does the job but isn’t exactly a looker!

3kidsinacar · 02/09/2021 20:39

I'm tipping more towards a transporter combi

OP posts:
wonkylegs · 02/09/2021 20:49

@3kidsinacar I'm 4'11 so understand the struggle but not a problem as there's loads of room and headroom so you can actually get in if you need to faff about.
Ours is a disco sport, big but not too big as that's what put me off a full on disco or Range Rover.
One of my kids is full on adult sized now (he's grown like a weed and is way bigger than me now ) and he fits in the back with no problems.

idontlikealdi · 02/09/2021 20:53

Dream vehicle. Two cousins have them plus another has the Mercedes version. Bloody brilliant.

We have kept our van and have had it converted to a day van. Had loads of camping holidays and days at the beach with it.
Toomuchleopard · 02/09/2021 21:00

I had exactly the same problem and got a multimac. I didn’t love it but allowed me to keep my bmw which was new at the time. I kept the multimac for 5 years and sold it for almost as much as I paid for it so was a good value option. Now have a Q7 and love it

3kidsinacar · 02/09/2021 21:02

Yes think a transporter will suit our family dynamics

I need it in auto as well as I don't have a manual license and don't want to learn manual either

Q7 is going to be really expensive my cousin pays like £1k in road tax I heard 😭😭 or more

Interesting that the multimac served you well for so long, I am worried about the comments people have made on the side impact
I won't have more kids so I just want to get three in proper seats in the back I'm so done

So sick with hyper emesis atm

😂😂😂😂

This is brilliant. People ‘refusing’ or ‘hating’ to drive cars that aren’t Audis.

😂😂😂😂😂😂

Aw, bless. Try bus-ing it.

TeaandHobnobs · 02/09/2021 21:25

I have an auto S Max. 2L diesel - 2015 so still ok for ULEZ (just) although I don’t feel great about it being a diesel! But the petrol versions just don’t have enough oomph for the size of the beast, IMO.
I find it surprisingly zippy and fun to drive!

AfternoonToffee · 02/09/2021 21:26

When I became pregnant with #3 we had a C3 and an Audi A3. The C3 was replaced with an S-Max (Auto) and was wonderful to drive. We could get 3 seats in the back of the A3 -2hbb's with the baby seat in the middle, the s-max was used as the main car.

Change of circumstances and 3 years on we replaced the A3 with an A1 - that really doesn't fit car seats in.

The S-Max sadly had to go, we needed a car, it also had to be auto only, it was still lockdown / restrictions and so we now have a BMW 2 Series Grand Tourer, DH wanted an S Max again but there wasn't a suitable one available. He really likes the drive on the S-Max, and the auto is very good.

The S-Max is great though - easily fits 3 seats and has a really good size boot, I only need one in a seat now so the BMW works but wouldn't have really done for when all 3 were in seats. The boot is a really good size on the S-Max.

filka · 02/09/2021 22:01

In my UK home I changed a Sierra for a Galaxy. It's a good car, 7 individual seats and some of them had built-in kids seats, and there are some upmarket versions (bigger engines, leather interior etc.). Importantly, it drives like a car, which the VW Transporter definitely doesn't (we have one in our overseas home) - it drives and feels like a transit van from both the drivers and passengers perspective.

We also have an Audi Q7 2.0 abroad. It only has 2 rows of seats, but when I was looking online there seemed to be one with 3 rows of seats.

My favourite big family car is my Dodge Durango - three rows of seats and even the back row will comfortably seat two adults. The only car I ever bought twice. But I doubt if you'll get it in the UK and even if you can it'll be left hand drive.

TheViewFromTheCheapSeats · 02/09/2021 22:05

I had a bmw 5 series when mine were young, got 3 seats in it
