Lyse Doucet still in Kabul

I know she regularly reports from dangerous places but am I the only person to be surprised that Lyse Doucet is still in Kabul? How on Earth will she get out? She must be a target for ISIS?

It's very odd but part of me wonders if these very public figures are safe from the taliban at least? (Not isis k I bet)

They are so determined to convince the west they have changed I don't think harming someone who's such a prominent public figure (especially a female) will help that image.

I'm seriously hoping I'm not deluded.

Lol. I went back and checked Wiki for the spelling as I knew someone would come along and piss on my chips.

Why wouldn’t you refer to them as they want to be referred to? They prefer to be called Miꞌkmaq because Micmac is colonial.

Not able to do but chooses to do. Is she not more aware of, and heightened to, risk, coming from life experience.

I am constantly amazed that the only (high profile) attack on a war correspondence is Frank Gardner.

Gardner consistently blames his attack on fact he simply paid someone he didn't know to help him out, rather than seek personal assurances and assistance from people he negotiated with and formed relationships with --when governments and rule of law don't work, word of honour means a lot in these societies. People don't break their word.

I've spoken to (male) aide workers who talk about sitting down for long cups of tea with Islamist extremists to negotiate a local aide project. How hospitable and generous they could be and when they finally agreed to a deal personally, they meant it.

Sometimes other people come do other things that ruins the best plans. Central Taliban authority does not have control over many of its members, but the person you dealt with will deliver what they promised, to their very best ability.

Really unfair to poster who just copied from wiki in good faith simply not realising.

I'm worried about Lyse Doucet, too. I look at Twitter every morning and see what she's tweeted or retweeted and know she's okay. Very courageous woman!!!!

I’m currently watching the new 911 focused documentary on Netflix which talks about the 80s and 90s Afghanistan history and culture. There’s an American (male) journalist who was in Kabul at the height of the taliban regime and it seems they were ok with him…..they’d knock on his door and invite him to executions! 😮

She is just a wonderful woman.
